Jan. 17, 1991
Army at Lafayette, simultaneous with the beginning of Operation Desert Storm, Gulf War 1. A vivid memory for those at the game. The war started shortly after the game began.

Army 64, Lafayette 57
Kevin Berry scored 15 points to lead Army past Lafayette
in a Patriot League game in Easton, Pa. James Collins added
13 points for Army. Jeff Antolick led Lafayette, 4-10, 0-2,
with 15 points, and Craig White added 14.

If I recall correctly, the Army players didn't find out about the war until after the game.

Tonight
Common opponent, St. Francis-Brooklyn
Army 76, SF 56 (home)
Lafayette 74, SF 72 (away)

Sagarin
Army 201
Lafayette 322

Army 6-8, 0-2 (Lehigh 66-59, Bucknell 84-76)
Lafayette 5-8, 1-1 (L-Colgate, W-Loyola-MD)

The Kanigits are 0-2 in the PL so far and will be looking to get a W. Let's see what we learned from our road win in MD.

I can't get too giddy over a home win against Army West Point (not sure what other Army there is?) but a win is a win. We got up quick on them and kept the lead. Finally starting to make FTs like a FOH team.
BTW the brown went down in Bethlehem last night to Loyola.
We are tie for second right now and hosting the first place Metro College Terriers on Sunday.

Lafayette beats Loyola in Baltimore.

Loyola beats Lehigh in Bethlehem.

Ergo . . .

Ergo the PL is just like all the other leagues. Once you get to league play, who knows.
Dr. Reed may be a good recruiter and evaluator of talent. Runs a good program and must certainly be organized. He does, however, have the propensity to be out coached during the athletic contests. FOH has proven that many times with lesser talent. Hee hee!

Reed is 166-124 at Lehigh (since 2007-8) and 12-8 versus Lafayette.
That's the reality. Lehigh has been better and more prominent nationally. It's not even close.
The goal is not to beat the better team, but to be the better team.
Lafayette is 130-157 over that same time span.
If occasional upsets over superior talent is satisfactory, well, go to it. Play hard, boys!
If Lehigh is presumed to have some innate advantage, fine. That's something new.
From my point of view, this wasn't what the scholarship era was supposed to be about.

Great to get another win.Doing it with one senior and about 80 freshman mins is a tribute to the coaching and the kid's effort.

Local paper reported LC funds 11 scholarships. Inexcusable. Wonder how many teams have a similar situation.

Do you think Fran could win a championship with Tim Kempton and Ross? Will Reed?

Lots of PL teams have 11 or fewer scholarships due to transfers.   LC has had more than that in the past and will gave more in the future.

We're playing with 9 (not counting injured Boykins), but different issue. My point was it has been reported that LC funds 11scholarships max. Presumably, if there will be a 12th, it will have to be funded by alums. Forget about 13.

Verbalcommits.com shows Bucknell with 13 scholarship players. Is that accurate?

BU with 13.

Riiiightt....   Wink

Reinhard:

Right now virtually every Lafayette scholarship sport is funded by the college at a level lower than permitted in the Patriot League. Football, for example, gets 56 instead of 60 from the college budget; men’s basketball gets 11 instead of 13 and women’s basketball gets 13 instead of 15./////

Yup. Spend millions, pay a coach 300k, and then give him less tools to do the job than everyone else in the league makes no sense.

AU with 13

Leh 12
Loy 13

Am I correct that our last transfer was Knitter in 2001?

Last year LC had 12 players who were reported by multiple sources to be scholarship players. The previous year, there were 13 players reported to be on scholarship. I don't believe the newspaper report is completely accurate.

I think what has happened is that Men's BBall originally had 12 scholarships. They have lost players before graduating and the scholarships have not been replaced. He continues to get three per year.

Andrew Pleick, started playing in 2001-02. He got screwed out of a year by his coach at Drake.
Knitter didn't play until 2003. Lafayette could use more guys like him.
Pleick played in Sweden for a few years.

That may be correct, but somehow he had 13 two years ago.   IMO the problem isn't the number of scholarships or funding in general, but rather how FOH has used them.
