ESPN is reporting that Army has fired men's basketball coach, Jim Crews.  The AD stated that it was a series of events that led to the firing.

Weird timing-- he must have done something pretty bad.

Maybe Bob Knight rides back to West Point on his white horse and closes the loop of his career by turning the Army program around-- or maybe not.

The story first broke Tuesday morning but Army has been incredibly slow to even confirm it, let alone provide any information.     Now it appears that one of the reasons for his dismissal was something physical directed at one or more of his players, a la his mentor Bob Knight.

My guess is that the last guy on earth for this job is Knight - both because I seriously doubt he would want to replace one of his proteges who was just fired but also because it's doubtful - given the alleged reason Crews was fired - that Army would hire a coach with a documented record of abusing players.

My guess is that Crews was on a short leash anyway since his last three recruiting classes have been very poor.

This has got to be one of the toughest places to succeed in D-1 bball.
