For the past two months this board has gotten over 1,000 registrations and all but 5 have been spam. Those are pretty bad odds! Again - the quickest way to ensure you're on the board is a quick PM to me.

The quickest way to get access to this board is to send me a quick pm after you register indicating that you have registered. Even with the annoying "captcha' box some spam-bots are able to get through. I don't like to make people who want to post have to wait a long time but I have to look carefully at all registrants because one spammer can do a lot of damage.
Due to Smartphone technology I am able to add newly registered accounts in fairly quick order. I hate to have to approve registrations at all but spammers have become too sophisticated to let it be an automatic pass.
There are a lot of websites out there that identify common e-mail addresses and URL's used by the spammers. Most of the time that weeds them out.
If I am suspicious of a new registration I will send an e-mail to the e-mail address you register with to verify. I realize that isn't full-proof as anyone can make up an e-mail address in minutes but it's one more control. The LAST thing I want is to approve an account and come back a couple of days later and see the board inundated with spam.
I'm not interested in who you are and I would never even consider revealing this information to anybody even if it is obvious. It's normally easy to figure out who the parents are by the tone of their postings, and sometimes it's very easy to figure out who their son/daughter is - but that's not because I'm telling anybody.
The three types of accounts I would consider deleting:

1) Spam - obviously.

2) Fans of opposing teams who add nothing constructive. That's NOT to say I have a problem with good-natured ribbing. Also there's nothing wrong with sticking up for your team - but just keep it at an adult level. "God you guys suck so much blah blah blah." Quite honestly this has never been a problem.

3) Ad-Hominen attacks on other posters or players and coaches or about anybody else. It's a fine line. This is - after all - a sports forum and that's what it's all about. Questioning a coaches play-calling, recruiting, general skils as they relate to their on-field product is OK. Calling out their character or making posts with a clear agenda (IE - my kid isn't playing so Tavani is an idiot.)

Please don't make much out of these rules - they are basic. I can count on two hands the number of threads, posts and users I have deleted over 4 years. I just figured it's time for consistent guidelines!

Does this mean that I've been black-balled?

Wink Gee, I hope not Carney, I find your curmudeonosity refreshing in a bleak sort of way. Were it not for you and Bogie , I doubt I would pop in as often as I do.

OOPS, forgot why I was posting. Common sense rules, when enforced, will keep Board clean. Lack of them killed old PL and LU sites.

Mr Reality has now joined the Holy Cross board. He has posted about his experience on this board and points out that he is a BIGTIME giver. If this campaign fails because he doesn't give his usual 3 million, we'll expect his good buddy Lafalum to pick up the slack. It appears he was drunk when he made one of his postings.

Wow - I wonder if I am derailing the efforts of the capital fund drive by my draconian moderation of this board.

What I saw out of him wasn't - as he says - "adding nothing of value" - it was the ad hominen attacks which someone of his apparent status in the world should be above. There's no call for it.

He's the one poster - one - who I have deleted in 4+ years that wasn't clearly spam. I removed all references to a particular player once at the request of the Mother and I removed a post - but not the user - in the football forum. I don't recall what it was about.

I should have PM'd him before deleting - and I'll admit fault on that. When he re-registered under "reason" he gave a fake e-mail address so I couldn't get in touch. He's welcome to contact me - I'm pretty accessable - and as long as he can attack arguments without attacking people than he's welcome back.

Or he can continue to whine on the HC board. I'm sure they're very interested.

I figured that "reality" became "reason."  It was a little too obvious.  If the guy really is some sort of big donor, his banning would have have had a ripple effect by now, don't you think?  Even so, this board is unaffiliated with Lafayette College (as far as I know) and obviously accepts no funds or donations from the College.  Why would someone threaten to withhold a private donation to the College for something that was posted on an independent message board over which the College has no control?

Mr. Reality's posts are here:

http://s2.excoboard.com/Crossports/32945/2321658

I've never had words with Mr. Reality and to my knowledge, he's never attacked me personally.  Why, then, would Mr. Reality choose to join the Holy Cross board for the purpose of disparaging ALL the posters on the Lafayette board, including (presumably) me?

Indeed, why the Holy Cross board in particular?  As far as I am aware, Lafayette and Holy Cross are friendly, congenial and sportsmanlike rivals, and always have been.  I could see the guy going to the Lehigh board, perhaps, but who knows.

I guess maybe a warning might be in order in the future if you think it is warranted, Mr. Administrator.  Maybe even a "Rant & Rave" section to which offensive posts could be moved - though that seems like a lot work for a board that really ought to be self-policing.

Here is Reality's most interesting post on the HC board. He REALLY does not like our Lafalum. I take that latter item personally. With me available, how can another be hated more?! I do my best.

"I am on the right side of all the issues mentioned by go purple, so I can't be all bad. Regarding the new sports complex, I'm afraid that will have to wait for a while. My model Lafayette alum who is a good friend of mine is Walter Oeschle. He has donated many millions of dollars to Lafayette for various causes and who continues to play a major role in it's academic and athletic programs. It is his belief that neither Lafayette nor Holy Cross are currently doing enough for their athletic programs and that both are dangerously close to nurturing a culture of losing. That would clearly not be in their overall long term interest. I am mentioning this simply to further introduce myself"

With sader87 and now Reality in their big tent, Woo has acquired a corner on the nut job market.

No - definitely not affiliated with the college. The college - hopefully - would make it look sharper and buy a domain name!

As I stated - I probably should have PM'd him before hand. Actually, I definitely should have. Mea Culpa. Maybe I let the authority get to me! Nobody's listening to me much these days...]

When "reality" registered as "reason" I sent an e-mail overture and never heard back. Whether he chose to ignore or whatever I dont' know.

This whole thing is sillly - yet strangely entertaining.

THE GOOD NEWS: This page is ALL OVER Google. Many times when I look up more information on a potential recruit we're sitting in the prime real estate on page one. If you type in Lafayette Sports we land there as well.
