Hello, Maniacs, and welcome to Week 9 of the Patriot League season and Week 8 of the Lafayette dream walk.  After a welcome, if not overwhelming, victory over the Rams of Fordham it is time to consider the Buffalos of Bucknell.

I'm trying desperately to think of something threatening or imposing to say about the blundering herd.  You know, something about a trap game, or looking ahead, or one of those other rousing sports speak crapolas.  Sorry, but I've got nothing.  94 has already predicted a 38-0 "walk" by the Pards.  I disagree.  I think the Buffs will score.

Given the current Leopard personality, it's almost a sure thing they will score if they get the ball with, say, 2 minutes left in the first half.

It's that damn prevent defense that coaches of all stripes are so fond of....

Pards should take this one by 24 points or more.

One thing that disturbs is that without some very unexpected miraculous catches, we could well be 4-3.....Can we expect the miracles to continue?

I'll take it a step further 65...if we hadn't scored all of those touchdowns and won all of those games we could have just as easily been 0-7! I don't mean to be a wise ass I just never understood that line of thinking. Fact of the matter is somebody on that coaching staff recrutied the likes of Mark Layton and Mitchell Bennet becuase they fully expected them to make miraculous catches. And finally we have an offensive game plan to put them in the right spots to make miraculous catches. The way these guys (Bennet, Curley, Layton, etc.) are playing I have come to expect at least one miraculous catch a game and I am disappointed when it doesn't happen.

On a different but related note....I saw Bennet interviewed after the game. I guess I didn't realize he was a Sophomore. He looks like he's 26! If that kid isn't a pro prospect I don't know who is. He's 6,4. fast and very athletic. That stiff arm yesterday was something from the NFL. My only concern is who will be throwing him the ball for the next two years. I'd love to get a big lead early against Bucknell and put in the QB of the future whoever that may be. I think Bennet needs to start developing chemistry with that person now. I'm very excited about him.

That's the line of thinking that has coaches drawing up game plans that don't rely on converting 3rd and 17, or one handed catches, or roughing the kicker penalties to extend drives.....sure we are going to get some of that but we have been very fortunate in the timing of such this year.

I was just asking if we can continue to expect it and we have your answer........but don't have the illusion that we cannot be similarly victimized.

Yes this is a very good squad and I too am very impressed with Bennet and have been a Curley believer since early last season.

This team is good, maybe destined to win out,  but it does not have a monopoly on miracles......

Surprised that Carney is not injecting a dose of reality here......euphoria is unbecoming to his persona.

I'm not sure what you mean.  I'm not seeing the same "miracles" that you see.  Curley is one of those "can't do anything but win" type QBs.  The receiving corps is doing pretty much what we expected them to do when we saw their recruiting resumes back in February of 2007 and 2008.  The defense is outstanding, as expected.  At this point we are starting to see some cracks in the facade.  (For instance, with 7 games in the rear view mirror, we have yet to establish a solid running game with the 4 horsemen.)  Still, Frank and his coaching staff have plugged more of their perceived preseason holes than any team in the Patriot League.  It is difficult at this point not to view them as odds on favorites to win this thing.

While I agree that this Leopard team has come together  and some real stars have emerged, I am saying that timely one handed grabs and 2 critical penalties enabled us to win games that we may not have won...I said "may" not "could"......

At this point it's probably 50/50 in my mind whether we or HC takes the PL.....I definitely agree Curley is a winner and we have lots of talent elsewhere but the crown is not a foregone conclusion.....

Maybe that's 47 years of many more heartbreaks than triumphs talking......
