This post will be about the 2001 Jet Li movie, not about today's 81-39 loss to the Drexel Dragons.

OK - 2 seconds on the game.  39 points.  34% FG shooting.  50% FT shooting.  24 TOs to their 12.  3 assists to their 17.  44 shots to their 56.  2-18 on 3-pointers (11%) to their 10-26 (38%).  Out rebounded 35-27 by a much smaller, but quicker team.  Granted, Drexel is a very good team, but still ...

Anyway, I think Kiss of the Dragon is a very underrated movie - does anyone agree?

Happy Holidays to all.

I cannot imagine that this is good for a young players psyche?

Lehigh has also been playing freshmen a lot but has managed to win some games. Maybe their freshmen are better, their scheme is more effective or their upperclass women are doing more.
Trust the process ... trust the process ...
What the hell it's Lafayette WBB it's supposed to stink. If we ever become good the NCAA should investigate.

It's not.  In the pre-game, one of the announcers said something like "you use these non-conference games to find what works and get better and prepare for the conference games."  I think that is right, but do any of you think these first 12 games succeeded in that goal?  I sure don't.

Face it. MBB and WBB together have 36 league games and the over/under is no higher IMO than 4.  (Seven wins last year with the help of 4 by WBB--which is not at all likely this season.)

They played like they couldn't get the game over soon enough so they could go home for the holidays.

About 3 seasons ago, when we almost beat Northwestern in Evanston, I met Coach Nolan. I thought she was a nice person...enthusiastic, realistic, etc. etc. No attitude. If you were at the end of her bench (like Harriet) you were going to get some minutes. Some.

Now, if you're anywhere near the end of the bench (which is where some of our better players seem to be), you might as well be in Antarctica. Doesn't sound like a fun experience to me.

Drexel's damn good...I don't want to make too much out of this (although I don't know if I would have given them 40 points at home good). But the overall picture is grim. I'm not sure we get to 5 wins this year. We rolled with last year because we assumed that coach Grentz was bringing in higher-level talent. Now it's just scary.

Why didn't we bring in a playmaking guard? Who fell asleep at the switch on that one?

Our one win in our first game was against LaSalle and they are 7-4 and have won 4 in a row. How could that be? We could easily be 0-12 instead of 1-11. Something is at work here beyond putting a basketball in a hoop.

Devil's advocate: it's not like Coach G. and her staff can just wave a magic wand at a "playmaking guard" and she'll commit, no questions asked. Other than immediate playing time, I can't name a single "basketball reason" for an All-Patriot League caliber player to come to Lafayette right now. We need to either find diamonds in the rough (which, as the name suggests, are incredibly hard to find) that other D1 schools have overlooked or get lucky with a top-tier PL talent that really wants to attend Lafayette for one of the 100 non-basketball reasons why we all love this school.

To be honest, I can't think of a reason other than luck why this program will be competitive any time soon. Elena Delle Donne happened to be from Delaware and wanted to be close to home, so the Blue Hens got a few great years because of it. Maybe we need our version of that.

There is (was?) a point guard from Atlanta who committed the weekend of the first home football game. She did not sign during the first signing period. Is she still coming?

I understand what you're saying. To a point. I could just as easily have asked for a "scorer" - which isn't easy to find either. BUT... you recruit to fill needs and we knew the only guard we had who could pass was graduating last year. We didn't address that with last years class - which would have been ideal, or this years class - which was just plain irresponsible. I'm not asking for a 6'4 athlete who could run the floor and shoot from anywhere - I just want a guard of any height who can run a damn offense. We don't have one. Somebody screwed up.

I understand the limited supply of "Bigs" - and the need to develop them...But I don't quite get how we can be in a situation with no point guard and a slew of shooting guards who can't shoot.

We're staring down the barrel of 3-25...It made sense when we were not giving scholarships - it's not excuseable now.

39 poins is better than 27 points but won't win very many games. I hope this isn't the improvement Grentz sees.
