10-2. We're losing the draw almost every time.  Lehigh is legit.  Right? This is our marquis program!

The skill gap between our top three players and our bottom three players on our starting unit is wider than any team in the PL.

You can fill volumes with what I don't know about lacrosse. Im having a hard time understanding this.  We don't look like we're in the same tier as Lehigh (down 16-5 early in the second half)

Came late to the game. Looks like we're scoring when we get possession. I'm assuming we couldn't get possession in the first half. What happened that Lehigh jumped ahead by such a margin?

Was it all on faceoffs?

You must have seen the three minutes where we actually strong some goals together. This was an all-around ass-kicking

For the most part yes. LU had possession most of the half. 20-8 now. LC has a couple of stellar players on Attack. Likely top in PL. LU.has a big edge overall in talent.

The top tier PL teams are bigger, faster, more physical, and more athletic on defense. We can't stop the better teams from taking over a game because of it.

Our defense and goaltending has been consistently weak in the games I've seen. Not surprising that Lehigh put up big numbers against us like BU did. I was surprised at our lack of scoring.

If Lehigh had the ball the whole first half, that explains it.

I note there were only 211 people in the stands. It's Lehigh!!!! And we had what appeared to be a good team. It's not like they had to get to Metzger. Our school spirit sucks!!!

A record of crappy teams with no chance of winning hurts attendance. One team will not turn that attitude around; BUT (as you IMO, Lafalum, have asserted previously) the feeling that these varsity athletes are not part of the everyday student population pervades. For instance, three years ago the only varsity athlete in Alpha Phi was Jamie O'Hare. As recently as two years ago, the only athletes of any sort at Deke were ice hockey players. By restricting campus involvement of varsity athletes, the coaches and the administration have allowed two different Lafayette Experiences to promulgate. The gladiators are fine with the situation because they are doing what they want to do and are handsomely paid through scholarships. The "bread and circus" group...well, there is no bread and there is no circus ("I want to watch my friend, Kirsten, play" or "This is a big game that we have a chance to win" incentives don't exist).

I totally agree Pardfan. when the last team to win back to back championships and a national ranking played (the Fh team). All the stars on the team were Greek, even against the wishes of the coach. Today they play with small crowds and haven't had a winning season since, though they have been in the PL tournament twice.
Same is true with the football team. I see no correlation between non greek membership and performance on the field. It is important that all the athletes be integrated into the life of the college as along as it doesn't interfere with their obligations to the team or their academic duties.
I recall our esteemed athletic department leader denying that athletes were banned from joining greeks....he lied or was ignorant of the facts.

The fact that there are scholarships without performance engenders resentment.

Totally agree that segregation of athletes is disastrous for all parties. It goes against everything that a college like Lafayette is supposed to be. And I don't have to mention that it hasn't helped with the win/loss percentage.

My unsubstantiated belief is there are a couple factors creating this separation.

1) Greek life is less important as time goes on.  Social media, and constant connectivity eliminate the main benefit, creating a social and post grad network.   Add to that, they are viewed as "homogeneous" groupings, in the age of being different is superior to fitting in.

2) Athletes are required to spend much more time than they used to on "optional" team activities

3) Most teams become a defacto Frat/Soro by nature of the amount of time they spend together

4) The recent trend of the media, and society, demonizing athletes, and essentially blaming sports for increased tuition.

LU dominated the faceoffs. LU also was very effective in attack.  They ran a lot of organized attacks, contrary to our attacks which seemed unorganized. LU also did a good job matching our speed when we had possession.

The next two games will also be very tough games.
