Welcome aboard, Andrew!
http://recruiting.scout.com/a.z?s=73&p=8&c=1&nid=3455322
2009 Scout.com HS Football Rankings (full list):
Pos: QB Pos Rank: #91 Pos Rating: 2*
Scout.com Player Evaluation:
STRENGTHS
Accuracy / Consistency
Release
Technique
AREAS FOR IMPROVEMENT
Decision-making
Shoop has a shoulder high set-up and a nice, quick, compact release. He has an above average arm and throws a consistent spiral. He is very accurate and can throw all the passes. Not a dual-threat QB, but is still very mobile. Very poised in the pocket. Threw a lot of interceptions, so he must improve on his decision making abilities.
Evaluation from Akron 7 on 7 passing camp:
QB Andrew Shoop 6-2/195 Danville/PA
We saw Shoop on film and we really liked him in our early evaluation, but our biggest question was about the level of competition that he was facing. The speed of the game changes tremendously when you are playing on a team full of D-I athletes and Shoop adjusted just fine. He played seven games on Sunday and he got stronger as the day went on. Shoop was firing peas. He showed very good arm strength and accuracy. He took the team and led them to a championship .

He reads like a good one. Our coaches felt that Colvin(Lehigh) is a good qb as well. _________________ Go Gate! |

i believe shoops temple offer was pulled late this summer when the owls got a commitment from the qb at st joes prep. regardless, many penn state fans had been hoping for months that he would walk on, so you may have landed a good one. |

According to scouts he was also offered by Temple and LEHIGH-ha. It appears this kid is much more desirable then the QB that recently committed to Lehigh as he also had interest from Pitt,Penn State, and Akron at one point. Good find. |
Apparently we weren't involved with Colvin who claims offers from Akron, Harvard and Buffalo. Maybe the Lehigh offer to Andrew was rescinded after they got a commitment from Colvin. Who knows? I enjoy the recruiting stuff, but playing head to head comparison is not something I'm gonna get involved with. It does seem that lehigh has a crowd at the position though. In any event, I'm excited about Andrew's commitment.
DB/RB Mike Yeager, mentioned on this board previously, to Colgate. Apparently we were NOT involved:
Philly Daily News
Yeager was also hearing from Holy Cross, Lehigh and Bentley and his other official visit, back in early December, was made to Assumption.//// |

I briefly made the point in another thread, but we were not invloved in the recruiting of many kids who ended up at other PL schools. It appears we are targeting a different set of kids. That may be good, that may be bad-- but I think its a very good sign. |

I hear you, Tank, and respect your knowledge. There are more variables than ever this recruiting season with the effects of the economic crunch undoubtedly influencing whom we can pursue along with the new "bands", both perhaps serving to spread us all out a bit. We've been up against Lehigh a lot the past few years and we've both had our share of success. I see where a HC poster is claiming 9 commits out of their first 10 visits and GT seems to always get early commits--perhaps having to battle the Ivy's early "likely letter" process more than we do.
I'm looking forward to more commits. I saw several big TE/DE types being escorted around and Heff had a group including Tahir Basil who looked taller than the listed 6-2. I didn't see the RB, WR groups.
Also besides the noted brother of Marc Leggiero, I see that Evan Nardone's brother Jake made AS 1st at AA level at RB.

I am speculating of course-- We should also see quite a few commitments popping up the next few days after the big recruiting weekend and it is always a good sign when a high percentage of the first line recruits commit. |

congrats Shoop is a real nice pick up. He was being recruited by LU but no offer was made. perhaps because of Colvin |
