That was one of the better games we played this year.  Army is a good team, but we have given them a hard time this year for some reason.  If Hood plays instead of Santarelli's for her 16 minutes, we may have won.  She did a couple of good things, but was 4-11, made poor shot choices, and got eaten up by Army's #41 in the post.  A lot of the same old issues for sure, but generally a very solid effort from our kids.  We'll win one of these if we keep playing like that.

We know who won't be "coach of the year"  anywhere.

There is no question in my mind that the Army Coach really knows what he is doing and the kids listen to him. He coached the men's team at Marist College in Poughkeepsie prior to Army and had some good success there, including agains LC as I recall.

He figured out how to beat our team tonight AGAIN which a cynic might say is not much of an accomplishment but since I see some improvement in the team, kudos to him. Maybe they should play Army and LU every game!

Coach Grentz needs to fess up and tell the parents, players, alums and fans why she left Lutz on the bench for most of the season.

A rose by any name is still a rose- bottom line - the losing streak hits 21. The team played like they are sick of losing which shows they haven't quit on each other or the coach.I agree that her personnel moves are baffling. One can only hope there is a method to her madness so to speak.

"Yes" to the players, but she doesn't have to tell anything to the parents, alums and fans. I'm not very high on Coach Grentz right now, but the idea that we are entitled to any of this information is just wrong. One of the few benefits of apathetic/non-existent media coverage is that a team gets to handle team business relatively quietly.

Now, if Bruce McCutcheon wants to know why Lutz wasn't playing, Coach G. has to answer to that. And if the Express-Times wants to ask, she needs to have an answer ready. But she owes us nothing except for her best effort to win games and to attract students who will represent Lafayette well as students, athletes and (eventually) as graduates.

Well, we just couldn't handle Army's center and her lefthanded, underhanded scoop shots. We never doubled down on her when she got the ball on the blocks.

Watched the men's game but read the recap and boxscore. Not a full picture in the stats but some things stand out. Gumbs 2-13, 4 turnovers but added 7 rebounds. H O-S had 14 pts, 5 assists. Lutz 6 pts grabbed 15 boards.  Ptasinski hit 5 3's. Does the coach think playing Lutz means not playing Hood?

Gumbs adds so much aggressiveness and energy to the front court, I am willing to overlook the 2-13, some of which was bad shot selection, but a lot of which was bad luck.  She added something when she was in there and did not hurt us, though, again, defensively, she has to get better.  She has to get smarter about fouling too - still a huge issue for her which limits her minutes.  She air balled a FT too.  Gumbs did have 3 steals which offset the 4 TOs.  By contrast, Santarelli's play hurt us - one e.g., when we were on a nice run, she pulled up for a 15 footer with plenty of time on the shot clock, missed it (she can't hit that shot - I don't know why she keeps taking it), and it turned into run killing points for Army at the other end.

The "who plays / who doesn't" appears to be guided in large part by whether you enjoy Coach's favor, or not.  It has little to do with who will help us win.  Lutz was out of favor and is now back in.  Hood apparently is not in favor.  Santarelli is still in favor, despite her dismal 42-146 (29%) shooting for the year playing the 4 and 5 spots.  There is no logic to it - it's just all bullshit.  Tyrannical bullshit.

Thanks Marooner: perhaps I was expressing some frustration there with Lutz' lack of playing time.  If you were to review my posts over recent years, I have been very reluctant to criticize coaches on a public forum such as this.  You
are entirely correct that Coach Grentz should answer to Bruce or McKittrick or to the local beat writers.  I think the latter group would start to develop some interest in the women's team if they start to win.  Thanks for calling me out.

Hope that didn't feel too much like a "call out", Ed. I think we're all a bit frustrated. Cheers!

You know what's funny? When I read Ed's post I nodded in agreement. When I read Marooners post - I ALSO nodded in agreement! So basically I agreed that the coach owed us an explanation AND that the coach didn't owe us one!

In the end - obviously - Marooner is right. We certainly don't need to know the ins and outs of the locker room.  But I don't know if that's what Ed meant - I think he wants what we all want...Theresa to give us some confidence that she's got this under control.

And yeah - we're all frustrated...I can only imagine what it's like to live it.

I think you are quite right Marooner re: Grentz letting us know she has things under control.  She is fortunate that virtually no one save a few parents and the people who post here seem to care what is happening with this program
