Well with four coaches, our players will get plenty of individual attention. By my count we're going to have a roster of 10 this season.

This staff is actually rather impressive. Deep major conference Division I backgrounds and notable academics. It's hard to find any fault.

I count 8 holdover players - does that mean the two Freshmen have committed?

We had three frosh, one jumped ship but I haven't heard anything to indicate the other two aren't coming to Easton in August.

This June 19 news item indicates Kucowski is still with the program.

I'm glad she's still coming. She looks like she's going to be a great one.

The defections really blow me away. Did we lose a single football player when Frank was axed? I don't think we lost three players in this program in the previous 20 years!

I'm putting the over/under on wins at 5 this season.

Maroon: No argument about 5 wins Maroon.  That said, I'm hopeful that Coach Damon will be a positive, encouraging, players type of coach.

A lot will depend on Santarelli maturing and becoming a factor in the scoring, rebounding, defense departments.  It may be a lot to hope that Kucowski can be a factor as a Frosh but maybe she can be coached up.

I would try Nia Holland at the point and Sammy as a shooting guard, Santarelli in the middle and Anna as a wing or shooting guard (why not have two!)?  I think a key for Coach Damon will be to really encourage Anna and help her get her confidence back.  She can hit those threes.  It would be great if Kucowski could start but if not Agnello and Cantwell will be that slot - four guards and a center!  Vipon and Ellen Graham are question marks but it is a real opportunity for Ellen and Vipon.  I know nothing about the other freshman - don't even have a name.  I admit that I am not a hoops guru so I'd be interested in everyone's take on the upcoming season.

Maybe with an up tempo offense and playing some aggressive D, the team can exceed that 5 win total.  Also, wouldn't it be great if Coach Damon could persuade some transfers!

Don't sell yourself short - that is a pretty spot-on analysis / dissection of what our options are and what we have / face this season.

Ransom: Thanks for the good words.  I was hoping some other members of the board would chime in.  I think if I was Coach Damon, I would throw the freshman into the water big time and see if they can swim!

I don't think she'll have much choice, ed65.

Not only are we stuck with only 10 players  (assuming Martino and Kucowski are still joining the party), we're pretty thin down low. Kucowski, Graham and Santarelli are all we have at the 4 and 5 positions. We're going to see a lot of them - for better or for worse.  We have no depth down low - it's going to be incredibly hard to play uptempo with this situation.

I think Holland can  handle the point reasonably well - I liked what I saw of her when she was given the chance. I have a feeling Ptasinski's range will return to form this season. I'm hoping Agnello's form improves.  But overall this is probably as low as this program can possibly go with scholarships - coach Damon's just going to have to keep it positive and put her plan in place.

Many programs are about as low as they can go, with or without funding.

If I woke up tomorrow and saw that Garrett had decided to go to an ashram for a year, or whatever, I'd give it up. A lot rides on him showing that Lafayette can compete. That's a lot of responsibility for one man.

The school is not competitive in the Patriot League. It's time to stop loving losers. Fire coaches and cut several sports.

The Lafayette community has to refuse to accept futility even when it's delivered by amiable coaches ... year, after year, after cursed year. Tomorrow, tomorrow and tomorrow ... as has been noted.

Cut back, do less and do it right. Country club sports, swimming, volleyball, should go. Perhaps softball and baseball should go.

Baseball and softball will stay due to commitments to the Patriot League.

Bogie and the Maroon.  Thanks for your input.  It doesn't take a genius to figure out who Coach Damon will put on the  floor this year.  if she has a plan, I would be interested to know what it is!

You are probably right and there is a baseball tradition. I've been to a lot of PL games and I would miss that.
As for commitments to the league, I recall how Holy Cross and Fordham treated such commitments when the league standards didn't meet their interests. This league is like the proverbial barmaid who "can't say no." It doesn't have the clout or the flexibility to take a stand. It's enduring but always on the edge. Each full member has veto power in something.

Coach Damon has a monumental challenge. Ideally there will be no ridiculous mismatch games this year. I hope she bites the bullet and doesn't make any late reaches for D3 types to fill out the roster.

It's going to be challenging. No it's going to be hell but there will be fans behind this squad.
