151 Game Thread

Pard go three and out on opening possession, Leigh drives 60+ yards for a TD on their opening possession with a couple of long passes.
2012Pard

Going for a 48 yard FG after Desean Brown picks up three 1st downs.

And, it's down the middle but falls short.  Remains 7-0 Lehigh.
2012Pard

Lehigh's 2nd drive starts with a nearly 50 yard pass, culminates in another touchdown.  14-0 Lehigh with 3:38 left in the 1st quarter.
The Maroon

Getting ugly in a hurry. I thought they'd give me something to work with for a few minutes.
bethlehempard

So the consensus is now a 47-14 win.
I'm glad I stayed at the beach, fishing. Caught nothing but still ...
2012Pard

Reed starts his 2nd drive by getting off a complete pass after running for his life.  Pards get a holding call on the play, Lehigh defender called for targeting.  Penalties offset but Lehigh #1 is ejected from the game.
2012Pard

Pards go 3 and out, with approximately no yardage gained or lost on the drive.  Lehigh starts their next drive around the Laf 48 or 49 or so.
The Maroon

Except for D. Brown nobody else has shown up.

Time to bench Reed. I'm pro-Reed but he's not in a groove.

But that won't solve the fact they can score at will.
2012Pard

Lehigh tries to start out their 3rd drive with a flea-flicker.  Almost intercepted.
LeopardBall10

Hard to beleive that was an ejectable hit. Have to make those interceptions.  This team, even with everyone healthy just doesn't make plays
The Maroon

Agree on both counts. I didn't think he should be ejected.

A personal foul call would have been nice but we managed to bungle that too.
2012Pard

Lehigh knocking at the door for their 3rd TD as the 1st quarter ends.
The Maroon

Shafnisky on pace for over 600 yards...
Jpao92

They showed up for the coin toss and that is about it.  They look flat, what. Shocker.  But hey, I get to be hit up for funds on the broadcast by Leone.
2012Pard

21-0 Lehigh, 14:15 left in the half.

How sad was that? "We can STILL win the fundraising effort!"

John doesn't usually concede this early.

+1
LeopardBall10

Flat, no identity, whatever you want to call it this team is just missing it. They have the talent, you can see that on the field. We can run with them, block them, tackle them. But we don't fight like them
2012Pard

Is Lehigh really that good, or are we just that bad?  Our respective records seem to suggest that it's the latter.
The Maroon

Gary doesn't realize how historically bad this season is - we haven't won just one game since the 60's. The 90's were boon times compared to this.
The Maroon

Brown is running pretty well. If we could just complete ANY passes we could at last get something going.

Vangelas drops one too.
2012Pard

Pard drive starting at the 22 or so.
The Maroon

There's no reason we can't score on this team.
2012Pard

Brown picks up 4 on 1st down, Reed goes deep with an incomplete pass on 2nd down, Vangeles gets a 1st down into Lehigh territory on 3rd.
LeopardBall10

The broadcast team sounds desperate.
The Maroon

They flagged Brown for THAT?

Oh well - 21-7...Some life.
2012Pard

Brown with a 15 yard touchdown run and unsportsmanlike conduct following the play.  21-7 Lehigh 10:37 left in the half.
LeopardBall10

The o-line has looked pretty good today. Good pocket for read and have been able to move this weak Lehigh D around. Early enough to still make a run at it but Brown will need to have 200+
2012Pard

75 yard kickoff, Lehigh receiver drops the ball and gets a short return before being flattened, starting around their 15.
LeopardBall10

Merriman, another kid with so much potential who hasn't made it on to the field long enough to make a difference
The Maroon

We just aren't getting anywhere close to their QB. I've never seen that kind of time since...well the 2012 game.
2012Pard

Almost had our first Lehigh drive ending in TD, but a facemask penalty on Laf gives Lehigh a first down at their 49.
2012Pard

Wide open Lehigh receiver brings it down to the 5, Shafnisky takes it in to make it 28-7 pending the extra point.  6:50 in the half.
The Maroon

"If you can play, you can play"

I'm lost.
2012Pard

Solid kickoff return has Pards starting at their 41.
The Maroon

Just looked it up - I got it now.
2012Pard

~40 yard Reed pass to Crawford to the Lehigh 10, holding call brings it back to the Laf 40 or so.

I'm just crabby - don't mind me.

But the offense is showing some life!
The Maroon

My God what a depressing interview with Scheurmann...
2012Pard

No offense taken.

Who'd have thought that we'd be happy to see the Pards down by 14 with halftime approaching?
LeopardBall10

If we can get into half down 14 I'd count that a huge moral victory. Glad to see big Dan D. Score

Watch the clock - they aren't starting it for 4 seconds
edge29

Completion after completion. This is ridiculous
2012Pard

Shafnisky comes very close to running for a touchdown as the clock expires.  28-14 Lehigh at halftime.
pards123

That's a horrible play by Shafnisky. He should know better.
The Maroon

He probably figured they wouldn't start the clock until he was 10 yards downfield. I swear they picked up 12 seconds on that drive.

Either way - we definitely dodged a bullet.

Right now I'm thinking 49-28.

Agreed. Noticed that too.

Bonehead play by Smalley when it looked like we might hold them to a FG. I liked the onside kick call...not like we can stop them anyway. Might as well do it every time.
Jpao92

I am shocked by this disgraceful performance showing lack of preparation, lack of discipline and lack of enthusiasm.   Or, I'm not.   All Lafayette needs to do is kick a FG and my prediction will come true.
edge29

The feed went down at the right time.
bethlehempard

Twenty more minutes of this.
Doing just enough to keep the slimmest of puncher's chances here. Ridiculously slim. 42-21. Woohoo.
Jpao92

Post game stories about how some offensive standouts from the game shows that the future is bright coming up.   Post game interview with Frank smirking,
crediting Lehigh, talking about injuries and acting like he has a contract for life coming up.
bethlehempard

That's that! Maybe another QB will get in for Lafayette.

***No. Meanwhile Lehigh's freshman RB may have out-rushed Lafayette for the year.

Thanks Carney but I know next year is Franks last ... Wink
Jpao92

Anyone want to see something maddening.  Look at the game stats.   We lead in time of possession, rushing yards, first downs, and total yards.  The only stat where we did not lead was passing and that was a 17 yd differential.

The difference?   A total of 27 extra yards of penalties on Lafayette.
Kpard

I know the guys never gave up and played hard, but, thank God this nightmare is over.
I truly believe some changes need to be made, but, they won't.
Jpao92

BillS,

Next year?   Oh no, another year?!?    Btw, what is the significance of the "Carney" comment?

I'll be back when Tavani resigns 😊

Did I see a commercial for the 150th DVD? Anyone find a link to purchase?

On the Lafayette sports website you can find info about the 150 DVD, for $35.

I'm wondering if it's not sometimes OK to give credit to the other team. Shafnisky was great today, knowing when to run and passing accurately. The Bragalone kid is a load, as is evidenced by the number of guys it took to stop him. They've got some really good receivers, too.

The 84-yard fumble return for a touchdown was a killer. So were a couple of costly penalties. And the Bragalone 44-yard TD at the end caught the Leopards a bit deflated. Losing Beau Bosch early in the game didn't help anything.

The most disappointing play for me was a Lehigh touchdown pass on which a Lafayette freshman was covering the receiver but never even stuck up his arm. I think he'd have batted the ball. That TD was way too easy.

I thought unsportsmanlike against Brown on his first TD was awful call -- and Coach T didn't like Brown doing it, either.

The 48-yard Bissell field goal attempt was against a pretty nice breeze. It would have been fine going in the other direction.

I don't think the team quit. It was Lehigh's day.

No mention here about Coach Tavani being in the hospital last weekend and having to go back in on Tuesday for a procedure of some sort. Not heart related, he says. Whatever it was probably ruined his week. He probably should not have been on the field today. But he didn't quit, either.

Yeah and a fumble return 90 yards or whatever when we were at their door doesn't show on stat sheet just as a fumble lost. Really was disappointed and opposed to start the 2nd half with that onside attempt. We were only down 14 and you give them the ball at midfield and momentum and they cash it in with TD. Later on in game that 7 and the 7 on fumble return for TD were critical. 1-10. I witnessed history today.

Serious injury. Surgery after the season. That is why he has been out

Recap please for those of us poor souls actually at the game...At least it was sunny low 50s with virtually no wind.
Pards Rule

When Shafnisky fought for those extra couple of yards mid first at the LC 10, I turned to my friend and said that play says a lot abut their desire to win today and the Morning Call basically highlighted it in a column about yesterdays MVP.
Pards Rule

Ugh! It just hit me today is the one year anniversary of #150 at Yankee Stadium. Great memories!
