1st place Buffs

I know you guys are all lathered up over which HS football sensation is going to sign with LC and propel us to 4 consecutive PL championships and a playoff run that will lead to an FCS Championship, BUT.....

We have a big home game against the first place team tomorrow night and it's time for us to make a run of our own. I hope we have a big crowd and get our third win in a row!

For those of us that can't make it to Kirby, supposedly John Feinstein will be the color man on the broadcast tonight.
Andy

LET's GO!!!!   Gotta watch from home tonight. Consolation is I don't get aggravated with the officiating AND I get to watch FT at halftime! Not to mention 4 hours less driving.
Pard4Life

Ugh, getting blown off the floor and Fran's looks befuddled... here we go...
pards123

Unable to watch, but pards have gone back and cut it to 3.come 3.come on boys

Tied at 63 with a minute to go, Bucknell has the ball.
2012Pard

Now tied at 67 with 15 seconds to go, Bucknell has the ball again.

Edit:  Bucknell misses a 3 with 5 seconds to go, Lafayette rebound.  Overtime.

Lets go Pards!  What a comeback so far.  Lets close this out, this one is huge!
2012Pard

Lafayette now up 75-71 with a bit over a minute left in OT.  Bucknell starting to foul.
2012Pard

Victory!  84-74

That was awesome.
bethlehempard

Down 38-23 at the half. Half two and OT: 61-36.

Wonderful win.

Dan Trist is da man!  We are coming on strong down the stretch, and just need to position ourselves well for the tournament seeding.
Pard4Life

Wow!  Go Pards!  We are a game within first... whoda thunk?
Andy

OMG!  I can't take these games! I'm exhausted from the tension.

I've never seen a Jekyl and Hyde act by a team within the course of a game like that before. First half we were saying thank goodness we didn't drive down for this mess and by the end it was dam wish we could've found the time to go!  Unbelievable, really thought the 4 missed layins were gonna kill us.

We said we just need the close ones in the 2nd half of the season to go our way. Thanks to the kids effort, they're getting it done.

Whew! Where's that Jefferson's....

Very nice win over the 137s.  We are 6-5 in the PL and 14-8 overall.  One at a time boys: a win over the Metros from Bahstin and we are in good shape.  Playing American down there is a tall order but the other games are all winnable (LU at the hanger may be tough as well).  If we only had another big body like Trist.

LU is also playing well right now.  They crushed Army today, scoring 62 points in the 1st half!

In the words of Clark Griswald -"holy $#!+ were's the Tylenol!
OMG!
That 1st half was the worse half of play I have seen in a long time. Down 17 early in the second and pull it out!
This team's gonna give me a heart attack!
Trist is just feeling it right now and thank God. He kept us in it until the others started to click.
When Bucknell needed a three in down the stretch, they couldn't convert. Several nice additions to our offense where defenders tried to beat our guys to the 3 pt line only to give up lay ups.
Great win, but, why? I'm exhausted!

Just finished watching the replay, Great win!

This will be a tough week for the team with 3 games in 6 days, two of them on the road. Fortunately Monday's game with Boston will begin at 7 and not 9. Then its a trip to Baltimore for a 7:30 start on Wednesday followed by Saturday's 2:00 start in D.C.

Surprised nobody commented on PA announcer James Finnen's being presented with a plaque by Bucknell's Todd Newcombe and coach Dave Paulsen prior to the start of the game which Finnen immediately threw on the ground.

He didn't throw, it fell from hi hands. I could see it quite clearly on TV. That was a generous gesture by Bucknell!!

Belated post re: the Bucknell game.  Clearly, the first 24 minutes were very hard to watch.  Defending against our offense, Bucknell, like virtually all our PL opponents, blanketed our perimeter shooters, especially, Hinrichs and Ptasinski.  Bucknell's Foulland was willing to concede Trist the mid-range jumper.  Dan certainly has shown that he is capable of hitting that shot if open, and he was especially accurate in this game.  In the first half, Trist pretty much was the only person on offense who was keeping us from getting blown out so badly as to make a comeback impossible; he scored 14 of our 23 points.  We also hurt ourselves badly with turnovers. Although our offense has struggled in the PL games, we have not turned the ball over much in the league games that I've seen.  In the first half on Wednesday, we committed 9 turnovers, which limited the number of shots we got.  Boykins, in particular, struggled with turnovers in the first half.

On defense, we couldn't contain Show of Bucknell on 3-pointers.  Bucknell often ran the same play, with Show or another outside shooters cutting along the baseline, then curling around a pick set at the low block and running up to the 3-point line for a shot.  I think Show scored on that play 4 times in the first half and Hass hit another 3 on the same play.  Starkey also scored on us inside, and we were down 15 at the half and 17 four minutes into the second half.

Our offense eventually picked up on the second half.  A big factor was that we stopped turning the ball over -- only one turnover through the 2nd half and overtime.  Bucknell continued to give Trist the mid-range jumper, and he continued to hit it.  Lindner started to drive to the basket effectively, sometimes setting up shots for Trist and others off the drive, sometimes scoring on drives himself.  Bucknell was not able to defend effectively against his quickness.  Although BU continued to cover Seth and Joey closely on the perimeter, we were able to get some looks from 3 for some of our other guys, as Scott, Rufer, Boykins and Lindner hit important threes in the second half.   After initially cutting the lead to 11 and then stalling a bit, we went on a 15-2 run, to turn a 12-point deficit into our first lead since early in the first half, on a drive by Lindner.  From that point on, it was back-and-forth for the last 5 & 1/2 minutes of regulation, with Hass missing a potential game-winner for the Bison.  We missed a couple of open layups late in the game that might have enabled us to win in regulation.

Defensively, we adjusted to the play Bucknell ran so successfully to set up 3-pointers in the first half, and they shot 2-16 on threes the rest of the way.  Starkey continued to hurt us inside, and we had trouble containing Kaspar on drives late in the game.

After Bucknell scored the first bucket in overtime, we ran off 6 points to take a four-point lead from which the Bison never fully recovered.  Trist took and hit his first mid-range in some time, and Bucknell still couldn't stop Lindner on his drives.  Bucknell started fouling with us up four with a little more than 1 minute left, and we hit almost all our free throws from that point on, to build up a winning margin.

It was great that the team was able to fight back from such a big deficit after struggling so much for the first 24 minutes.  The key was that we were able to score so efficiently in the second half and overtime, hitting almost 2/3 of our FG attempts in that span, including five 3-pointers.  We still couldn't get good looks from 3 for our best shooters, Seth and Joey.  I  like that Joey ran some back cuts to the basket for open layups late in the game.  Also, when Seth found himself defended by the shorter Kaspar late in the game, he was alert to post him up and score.  If teams are going to continue to blanket them on the perimeter, we're going to have to do more of that to free them up to score.

I agree that it was a very nice gesture of Bucknell to honor Jim Finnen before the game, and it was unfortunate that Jim happened to fumble the plaque.

That baseline screen for Bucknell was moving most of the time. After the BU player went by Foullard would stepped out in front of our chasing player. Never called a moving screen though.
