2-0 win but I have to be critical refs control

So field hockey wins 2-0. The second goal came as the Towson goalie flattened leading goal scorer Rosa Jonckheer. The ball was nowhere in sight and the official quite rightly calls a penalty stroke. Later, with five minutes to go ( can be seen on the video), Rosa is one on one with the goalie and the goalie grabs and holds her, the official is right there.
So these were deliberate and purposeful. Not only did it merit another penalty stroke but maybe even a red card.  These were no inadvertent fouls. Was she coached to do this or did she do it on her own??

Rosa is attracting more and more attention as the season goes on and officials should be aware!!! I hope our coach reviews the video and somehow lets people know.

Again, I question the quality of the officiating in the PL.  This is an area that the coaches and the AD should really complain about.  If the goalie tackled the player as lafalum suggests, she should be thrown out of the game along with the ref!

Again I'll point out that these are not PL refs.   They ref in many conferences - MAAC, Ivy, NEC, AE, A10, etc - and are equally mediocre in all of them.   Since there are very few competent refs doing midmajor FH, there isn't much the PL can do - just as the other midmajor conferences can't do much.   The only real solution would be to disband the FH team, and I doubt many people at LC or other schools want to do that.

I disagree, since virtually all games are now webcast the PL should institute replay for league games. This has been done in the ACC and the Big Ten and all
NCAA playoff games. You would eventually see an improvement in officiating.

As Bison would say. "Again" I repeat something has to be done about the quality or lack of quality officials that do PL Games.  Lfalum is quite right - install video replay.  This is D-1 and is 2016 not 1950.  The technology exists and is not expensive.  That aside, maybe they have to be paid more or only do college games not high school or trained better.  The leagues certainly could up the training and certification requirements for officials.  I am very familiar with the qualifications for US Open Tennis Officials.  Instituting something like that might be a plus for the PL and other leagues.  Sorry Bison your throwing up your hands is unacceptable.

If lafalum's descriptions are accurate, the video should certainly be passed along through the proper channels for review. Of course, I don't know exactly what those proper channels are and how effective that will be.

I know (in most sports) that officials are rated/graded by the coaches at the end of the year, but if the pool of field hockey referees is actually as small as it seems, it might just be an exercise in frustration and futility.

Watched the video replay and there is a clear, intentional foul by the goalie in the circle (grabbing and holding Jonckheer).  It is the pure definition of a stroke call and, since it was her second take-out of Jonckheer, should have resulted in removal from the game.  I've grabbed a clip and sent it to Steve Horgan (USAFH Umpiring Director, who has jurisdiction over the NCAA).  It won't change the outcome, but Steve will usually send out "teaching notes" to all officials to avoid the same circumstances.

Having said all that, let me point out one stat, 2 for 30 (actually, I'd make it 1 for 29, since the one goal came on a stroke without any defensive pressure).  The blatant foul in the D notwithstanding; the officials were not a factor in this game.

I totally agree regarding our efficiency, but as you pointed out the foul did not effect the outcome of the game. But effecting the outcome is only one responsibility of the officials, the other responsibility is the safety of the players. The foul was flagrant, dangerous and was repeated by the goalie. She deserved to be thrown out as an example at the least!!

And thank you for forwarding the clip!!

As a postscript Woodall who was the starting goalie for Towson did not start today against LIU but did play about half the game. A little coach's discipline??
