The next 25 or so (Frank said he expected another large group) had better move up from this plateau.

Great get Andy. colgate loved that kid.
Andy

Looking forward to Kyle and Shane Black playing together at the safeties.
LFN

Gotta say, that Don Bosco kid looks like a real good get.

Plus, he already wore Maroon at Bosco.   Laughing

Incidentally, I've compiled confirmations for all the Lafayette commits known so far, as well as recruit videos:

http://lehighfootballnation.blogs...al-lafayette-commit-list-for.html

I won't lie, I don't have any new names, but as I get them I'll add them, so check back often.
Andy

Personally, I don't like to contribute to the "hit" count on LFN, but that's just me.   Check in here for new names.

Can't wait for signing day coverage next WED!  Nobody else even comes close.

I can't see this kid playing QB in the PL.

Andy

Great shot, FT!   Deuce claims a 350 bench!

Orlando Sentinel:

And then last but certainly not least is a well known name in Tampa Carrollwood Day quarterback/linebacker Deuce Gruden ... that's right, son of former Tampa Bay Bucs' coach Jon Gruden. Deuce is 180 pounds of muscle packed into a 5-foot-6 frame.

He loves to hit people. I think he even likes to be hit. But he is small. He was listed at 5-6 when he was a rising sophomore. He's still 5-6 as a senior, and that may still even be generous.

But if anyone were going to overcome height issues, it would be Jon "Deuce" Gruden II.

He had short ... err ... quick work Friday night in the team's season-opener at Daytona Beach Father Lopez, routing the Green Wave 57-12. Gruden was 5-of-6 passing for 184 yards and two touchdowns of 62 and 73 yards. By halftime it was 50-6 and Gruden was done.

"I like to run people over," Gruden recently told Eddie Daniels of the Tampa Tribune. "I got my bench (press) up to 350, so I'm not scared of anybody."

His coach certainly likes the young Gruden's mentality and toughness.
Do you really want to play for a quarterback who won't tuck it up and go the last three yards for a touchdown?" Carrollwood Day coach Lane McLaughlin told the Tribune. "Deuce is going to run over somebody or he's going to take the hit."////

Kid has an attitude and is a winner. Sign him up!   Jett II

Rivals now has Gruden noted as a Lafayette signee and has him listed as an ATH and not position specific.

At this point the only ones left on the Rivals site who have been offered by Lafayette, but not yet committed are

Ty Tucker 6'3" 265 DT, Walkersville, MD - Also offered by Rice, among others

Louie Pappas 6'1" 200 QB, Tarpon Springs, FL  Apparently between Lafayette and Lehigh

Joe Palange 6'2" 215 FB, North Olmsted, OH  No other known offers

Tucker and Pappas would, I think, be major gets.
RichH

Look at some video Carney. Kid is an ahtlete regardless of being vertically challenged. Ideal slot receiver. hei s quick and a bull to bring down

It is now rumored that Ty Tucker will opt to be a walk on at Maryland.

Sorry, Rich, not thrilled with the ATH concept.  What are they, punt returners, receivers, RBs, all of the above, none of the above?  Exactly how does this win games for you?  Coen tried throwing Colvin out there with Lum upon occasion and it never seemed to do much other than delude Colvin into thinking that he might be contributing by getting his uniform dirty.  We already have one of these guys and he isn't doing all that much.
RichH

Doesn't always work but occasionally it does. Remamber Zahn a wr for us, very good. Was a qb in HS.Jefferson on this yrsteam also qb in HS. A number of others did not work out at all but I wouldn't give up on this kid just yet
Bogus Megapardus

Matt Szczur started out as an "ATH" at Villanova.
LFN

When I see Gruden, I see a safety that nobody wants to see bearing down on him.  That's assuming he's got the speed necessary for it.

I go back to that huge "O" lineman you got from the land of Winston Churchill.  To me, he's one of your best recruits - your blue-chippers.

Walkersville defensive tackle Ty Tucker, a two-star recruit, has multiple academic scholarships on the table from Patriot League schools like Georgetown, Lehigh, Holy Cross, Lafayette, Bucknell and Lehigh. But instead of taking one of those Division I-AA offers, the 6-foot-3, 270-pound Tucker has decided to walk on at the University of Maryland.

Pappas commit article:

Tarpon Springs quarterback Louis Pappas commits to Lafayette
Mon. January 30, 2012

This past weekend, Tarpon Springs quarterback Louis Pappas took recruiting trips to Lafayette and Lehigh, two Division I-AA rivals in Pennsylvania that have played a record 147 times.

After visiting Lafayette, Pappas decided that was the school for him. He committed to the Leopards on Monday.

“Lafayette is a strong academic school with great football and great tradition,” Pappas said. “Everything felt right the moment I walked on the campus.”

With the Leopards, Pappas will have to wait a season before competing for the starting job. Andrew Shoop, who will be a senior, threw for more than 2,000 yards and 15 touchdowns this past season.

”The coaches said after that it will be an open competition,” Pappas said.///

Ahh, good find, guys. Thereby solving the Anville-Cleona mystery stemming from p4l's sighting at Fisher.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hess, a 6-2, 215-pound battering ram, earned the rep as one of the best blocking backs in the league.

This past season he carried 69 times for 346 hard-earned yards and scored three touchdowns on the ground. He also caught 11 passes out of the backfield for 202 yards and a pair of scores.

And Hess was active from his inside ‘backer spot, with 46 total tackles and two sacks for the Little Dutchmen.

Also considered HC and Navy./////

I found an article from December that stated Bobby was considering an offer from Bucknell that would cover 70% of his tuition.  He never gave a verbal to Bucknell, but it is certainly possible that Heff gave a friendly suggestion that Lafayette is the place to be!

Could be.   When Coach T mentioned purchase of additional recruiting services a few years back my hope was for expanded territory.  Hasnt really materialized.

Some possibles/probables during this lull today:

Kirby Mutton C  6-3 265  Pen Argyl    mom works on the hill per xbo

Richie Skerrett  OG  6-0  275   Bishop Verot (Fort Myers?)  at the bball game, already sporting some Lafayette University articles.  I would be surprised to see us play a 6-0 kid at OG, more NG sized for us.  Video is available.

2 kids from GA remain a mystery as are 2 from Archbishop Wood.

I was hoping for Peter Catal from my neck of the woods- Cornwall- linked to LC in previous article.

I may go back over p4l's posts re unofficial visit observations at early season games.   Otherwise, 1 day to go.   Room for lots of surprises.

Many of Lehigh's names have been more of the local PA/NJ variety as well.  7 of our known 11 are PA/NJ kids, two are from FL, and two are from Maryland.  In years past this was not the case.
Bogus Megapardus

Either we're not going after and getting the recruits that we used to from FL, GA, TA, CA, etc., or perhaps we're winning more battles locally.  Worst case is that we're not getting the national kids and we're settling for more marginal kids at home.

I'm hoping for some prep school kids.   Coverage is usually lacking on them by the recruiting services.

Bobby DePietro - - Lancaster Catholic commits

That is a nice pick-up.  His  twin brother is a 4 star O-lineman who is heading to Northwestern.  Bobby is almost as tall as his brother, but quite a bit thinner at the moment.  Bobby can easily put on weight and is 6' 3" or 4.

DePierto, the 2 QB's, the safety from Bergen Catholic, and the Brockman kid from Valley Forge all seem like players to me.  Then again what do I know?

You're the man.  I enjoy your evaluations, keep 'em coming Tanks.   No RB yet.

Apparently they backed away from Charles Showers - friend of Chris Brockman...

Either we're not going after and getting the recruits that we used to from FL, GA, TA, CA, etc., or perhaps we're winning more battles locally.  Worst case is that we're not getting the national kids and we're settling for more marginal kids at home.

Loose has always spent most of his time recruiting Florida and Georgia.  His finds aren't always great players, but he is an excellent recruiter and I expect to get out typical 5-6 guys from that area. The class seems to be shaping up nicely, but hopefull we see a few more DL guys and maybe even a good RB prospect with Mputu in limbo.

OK, PR.  Was checking "Chucky" out based on your "roommate" post.  So, still looking for a RB.

Tanks, I believe in Loose's signing day interview last FEB he mentioned Dougherty was now recruiting FL.   Referred to Doc having to deal with more academic issues although rich w/ talent.

Thanks, I was not aware.  Many of these Florida kids are smart, but as we know the quality of Florida public schools is not on par with those in the Northeast.  We always have something to deal with.
RichH

A small example. When I moved back to NYC from Florida all 4 of my kids had to go back a grade in the NYC Public Schools.Supposedly we had been in one of the better school districts in Martin County.

Twenty-two golf courses for every one public school in the State of Florida.  Just sayin'.

Most likely the upper half, too.

Let's hope not.  This bunch doubled is an OK group.  This bunch plus some filler is a disaster.

Ah, good find on a guy we saw at the game last weekend.  Good article on his process and options.  Pretty sure  I've read of a sr yr knee injury, apparently no surgery, playing hoop.

Bogus Megapardus

"What sealed the deal for Smith after he also made [an] official visit to Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pa., was the same thing that draws many recruits to their commitment: the vibe."

“I felt really comfortable and welcome by the team” at Lafayette, said Smith. “Since day one, the coaches and players have been honest with me, and I like that.” Smith said making his college decision was “a bit of a relief” and he can refocus his full attention on basketball as a starting guard and admits that after this season, “I’m going to miss it.”

I don't know, rich, win some - lose some.  Phillips per the article was a definite win for you guys and the Shore OL as well.   Of course, we don't know what level of priority each kid was given by each coach - $$$.  Anyway, you have the AAAA 1st team AS RB and we dont.   Wink
RichH

Appreciate your graciousness Very Happy , but you are still kicking our butts going head to head. My impression from reading kids comments is indeed they feel  more comfortable. Best recruiting tool is current players. Seems your guys a good bit better at it than ours.
Pard4Life

We also have more immeadiate opportunities for playing time and competition RichH.  It's odd but our all-league frosh RB cited same reasons for choosing us over LU.

By the same token, seniors always graduate and new spots open up every year, whether it's Lehigh, Lafayette or any place else.
RichH

Grant Jamgochian???

I saw his commit to you on Philly Inquirer.List updated a few minutes ago , update now has him for Lehigh Typo?  or a switch?

Grant Jamgochian  ????

I give Lafayette the award for best class. The real verdict will show up in two years.
