2014 committs

Yes, you read that right... 2014. National signing day started last Wed. and goes for a week.  Coach is on top of things as he is a junior:

Jack Appicciafuoco, M, Haverford (Pa.) has verbally committed to Lafayette. A member of HEADStrong and Old School Lacrosse Club, Appicciafuoco attended Baltimore Summer Kickoff, King of the Hill, UPLax, NSCLA Young Guns Shootout, Hotbeds and Tri-State. He strongly considered Colgate, Dartmouth and Holy Cross.

He is our 3rd commit for 2014. For comparison, lehigh 8, gate 5, bucknell, 4. Agree, the new coach has us in the game.

Slightly off topic --

Perhaps someone more knowledgable than I can answer this -- why is it so commonplace for lacrosse players to make verbal commitments as sophomores and juniors?

My guess is that it is due to the fact that the PL is among the best Lax conferences in the nation and the blue chip guys commit early.  In football and basketball the big boys gets commits equally as early.

I see it happening with every team.  The Baltimore Sun follows lacrosse recruiting pretty closely and regularly reports on juniors and sophomores committing to Syracuse, Hopkins, UNC, UVa, Maryland and the like.

Also, lacrosse is played in the summer, so senior year is not taken into account at all... you are evaluating talent earlier and can pretty much tell who the stars will be.
