Yes, I like the early GA effort.  Still need to check the Orange California site.  No good source of Chicagoland recruiting info, that I'm aware of.

Wonder if the TN kid is another tip received by Coach Fein.

Spigner offered early, someone said he is a legacy type?

Would have to say staff is getting the hang of scholarship recruiting, this seems a very high number of offers this early in the year.

Both of Spigners parents are grads & played hoops.

Yeboah will be big boy D1 ball unless there is some other underlying issue. The kid is a stud.

Lots of "reaches" early.  No FBS yet for Yeboah, tweets he'd like to join Simpson at Towson.  We need to find kids who want to use athletics to get best academics - free, and play some great football.

Two things I take from this. Obviously I don't know how talented these boys are however look at where everyone is from. Half are from Florida and then some from Texas and Georgia. I attribute this to two things. 1. Scholarships and 2. Link's impact. He had coaching connections at Florida and was a recruiting assistant down there. He knows those HS coaches down there. And  second, the word is getting out about a good education and scholarships. No more recruiting just the northeast for 80% of the kids. Just my thoughts. What I know for sure is Link has connections in Florida. Not saying he is. Recruiting all these kids but he can help other LC coaches get in the door.

Colgate has a well established and fruitful network in FL.  It would be great if Coach Link could make similar inroads.

Coach Biel in TX, Coach Hallihan in MD, PA.  Coach Dell in GA.

Many schools list their coaches' areas of responsibility on website. Not sure if LC does. Will check.

Does this recruiting season seem much more frenetic to you? I cannot ever recall anything similar. Last 3 included. Also,we're all aiming higher . A majority of the offers so far are to kuds with multiple FCS and FBS offers. I wonder whether we are seeing more because we all seem to be offering earlier or it's just that we're seeking better players now after learning the ropes the last 3 years ???

Do any of your insiders have any info on Brendan Nosovitch? For those unaware he was a record setting QB at Allentown Central Catholic, and went to South Carolina, and has decided to transfer.  I believe he would have 2 years of eligibility remaining.  I understand he is a good student so PL may be a possibility depending on eligibility stuff such as granting him 2 years left (or whatever the full number).

He is very athletic, and I hate to say it out loud but he would be killer in Colgate's offense.
bethlehempard

He might have graduated already. I think the PL doesn't allow such players to transfer in regardless of eligibility. He is a good student.
RichH

My impression is that he may have graduated but not clear. He was looking around some time ago but I have seen nothing recently. He does have eligibility,so would not be surprised if he pops up somewhere. If he hasn't graduated ,he could come to a PL squad but no indication of any interest. Not sure ,but think admission deadline for Sept entry has passed.
bethlehempard

It's a reflection of how tough football is at any level. Two of the best players ever locally were Dan Kendra from Bethlehem Catholic and Brendan Beal who spent his senior year at Liberty (Bethlehem). Nosovitch wasn't quite as highly touted but he was great. I had the impression that USC wanted him to stay and he decided to move on.
Kendra and Beal went big -- FSU and Florida -- and suffered injuries. Kendra had a shot at the NFL but decided he'd had enough football. Beal transferred to Minnesota but was still hurt.
I think Kendra is still in the area.
In high school they were the biggest fastest strongest guys on the field. It's an unforgiving sport sometimes even for the great ones.

***corrects spelling of Beal's name. He was amazing, a big LB who could chase good WRs down from behind.
Andy

Well, a Spurrier quote from 4/4/15:

“He needed to leave. Some players need to leave,” Spurrier said. “We might could have let him go last year when he wanted to go, but I thought maybe he could help the team somewhere. He wants to go play quarterback, he doesn’t care if it’s small-level Division III or whatever. He wants to go play quarterback somewhere, so I hope he can, and we wish him the best. He’s a fine young man. He’s going to stay and graduate, and then go play somewhere, which is a good idea.”

Nosovitch still indicates USC Class of 2016 on his twitter page.

247 Sports indicates he will "graduate this summer."

Rich, absolutely feel the same way, you describe it well.  The value of making all these reach offers is yet to be seen. I suppose there is value in just making the offers, swimming with the big fish, getting your name out there and having a bunch of kids tweeting your offer along with those from the big boys.  Will the early offers translate into more campus/camp visits? We have a new coordinator as well as Coach Link doing his thing in FL, which I thought might account for what seems a new approach for us. I haven't looked too much at the other PL members, but I certainly trust your take that the aggressiveness is league wide. Interesting and hopefully fruitful.  I'd like to hear Fly's, Tank's, and others take on it as well.
RichH

As far as I can see, only Gate seems quiet. Doesn't mean they are, just not much ink.
Question. Are these still "reach"offers? Some are for sure but not as many,I think,as one would expect with PL. Assuming last year not a fluke, I expect coaches are concentrating on better players that they believe are gettable. Well,at least I hope so Smile.

I like the strategy and think it is the correct one. You want to beat the bigger programs, you have to compete against them recruiting. You gotta swim in those ponds. It will take time and you may not have much luck but you have to start somewhere. If you just win a few recruiting battles it is progress. I would have taken my oldest to PL school camps if they had offered scholarships. that is why he only looked seriously at W&M, Richmond, Furman, Wofford and such. Would not even consider a JMU, Ap State, Western Carolina, Chatty, ga. Southern.

Once more kids and parents start seeing the value of the PL schools and with coaches running around with a pocketful of scholarships, you will see the league get more competive. It will take some time but think about it from the kid/parent view. I can go to a PL school and get a near Ivy education, play quality competition, small classes (dont under estimate this; who wants to be in a classroom with 100 when they could be in there with 30 students tops), great alumni connections, quality scheduling. The llst goes on. the PL is a great opportunity. I am convinced the level of play will improve over the next 5-10 years. Not so much while my son is there but i think the next decade looks bright.

it will take time. All the PL coaches will get out there and compete for more athletic kids. They spent all those years fighting recruiting battles with only financial aid. Now they have more tools in their tool kit. The pool is a little smaller because you have to get real student/athletes, kids that can do real college work, but all the PL schools will start winning a few of those recruiting battles, our name and the PL will get the name out there and it will snowball from there.

A note to recognize verbal commit DB Dmitry Smith's all-area award from the Bradenton Herald:

Dmitry Smith, sr., Southeast

Position: Athlete

To his credit: The 6-foot-2, 190-pounder played safety and receiver. He had 32 receptions for 513 yards and six touchdowns. Colleges most likely want him for defense and for good reason. He had 47 tackles, including 23 solos, two forced fumbles and five pass deflections.

We'll attract only the players who want a great education, small classes, great professors, etc.  We all know that the mindset of a lot of college-bound students these days is to find a place where they can have a four year party vacation and do as little as possible.  Lafayette is self-limiting in this regard.  In my day it was assumed you strived for the best academic situation you could get.  I don't think that's true these days for a lot of kids.

I would imagine that Coach T. and the staff are quite upfront about all this . . . no easy classes, no easy majors, no curricula designed just for athletes, and they'll have to work their tails off academically while training for and playing DI football.  That and the AI really shrink the pool.

Hah!  Well, I'll continue to list the self tweeted and try to further confirm with other sites.  Pretty weird. It was many decades ago, and need based, but it was crystal clear who had offered me admission and even the dollar amount.

So true.  Free market now in much bigger pool.
Not that there weren't occasional bidding contests with need aid,but now it is almost the rule. Other than full rides,I've seen 1/3,1/4 etc plus various packages of need aid both loan and grant.  There were 2 on your roster that had verballed LU but got subsequent better offer. As an FYI, FCS can split the total scholarships out any way they want to get to the equivalent of 63 (1/2's, 1/4's 1/3, etc.). For FBS, it is full ride for a total of 85 with no splits, or preferred walk-on. What is interesting is the CAA has Redshirts, but many are not on full's because of the 63 limit (technically 12.6 full equivalents per year). The state schools get around that limit by costing the 63 scholarships out at the out-of-state tuition fee, then they have more money to give to a few additional in-state players. So in essence they can create a few more scholarships than the 63 limit.

Unfortunately the PL can't do that because of the private school status. But I'd take the private school education and very competitve football any day over a state school! We are going to win our fair share of the CAA matchups over the next few years in light of the redshirting and more schoolies available.

The mechanics of FCS recruiting also includes gray shirting.  A fairly common tool used by many FBS programs. Recruit enrols for first semester w/o a schollie. He then doesn't count towards schollie max. He gets schollie the next semester which counts vs the next year's numbers. A number of FCS programs emulate this practice for the same reasons.

Had an interesting conversation with someone I met last week.  His Brother was signed by Villanova for the class of 2015.  I casually mentioned that his Brother must have great grades, to which he replied, "yes, very good grades.  They told him he was pretty much guaranteed a job upon graduation".
I asked him if he was recruited by any PL schools.  Nope! Zero! Nada!

This goes to show you why Villanova or any other CAA school will not become part of the PL.  They obviously give greater and deeper exceptions than we do.

Football coaches say all sorts of things!

Seems rather unusual that this young man was not recruited by even one PL school(especially if he was local).  As we know most of the PL coaches are not shy about offering kids, even when we have a slim chance at getting the commitment- we have many offers out to kids with FBS offers.

Hmmm... class of 2015? Wasn't that the time that Loose was transitioning out? I know that was his area so it's possible that he got lost in the shuffle. But to be honest most PL schools don't cross on but a few recruits each year. It really does blow my mind how little there is an in-conference battle. Idk if that has increased over the last two scholarship classes though.

Well, he's really a Pius X kid who has now transferred to Notre Dame since they closed the Pius X school (in Bangor).  He has been coached by Phil Stambaugh, a great QB coach. Phil is moving to ND as the offensive coordinator.

His last QB is playing at Syracuse. He played as a freshman last year when Syracuse was short QBs.

You probably remember Phil as a Lehigh QB. He was drafted by Jacksonville, I believe. He ended up playing in Berlin and later got screwed by the Eagles.

I haven't seen this kid play yet, but I expect he is well trained. He'll be playing in the Colonial League, mostly AA teams.

Coach Links twitter is indicating possible big D line recruit and Athletic D back or linebacker
