As you note, Yale also interested in Alausa according to his "excited" comments on internet.
6'6" 190   U of Chicago  lab high school   I don't know who they even play around here    Y and P interest doesn't make him a player in my book.
Under 200 lbs...pass    NO more beanpoles (I considered Barlow a beanpole and he was listed at 6'8"  192)

I want sturdier guys like Malachi Alexander  6'7'' 217   solid muscle    from Holy Cross or that guy named Trist from Lafayette
LC Fan

We don't need the lumbering 6'8" big men that can't rebound nor defend. Give me a beanpole who can run the court and defend. We have so few of of these.

Muscala was a beanpole when he was recruited to Bucknell.   Would you have rejected him?    So was All-PL center Kevin Ferguson.   Wouldn't want him either?   Musters, otoh, outweighed Trist when he arrived at LC.    Would you prefer him over the two beanpoles?
pardfan

I want Malachi Alexander-types but that's a "third rail" discussion.

The third PG offer signals to me that the Pards are becoming less confident in their ability to woo Kachelries who is their first choice but has eight other offers.

Yup, and now another PG offered per VC, Jeffrey Gary 6-3 Austin, TX.

Same with Iorio at PF.

Wow, slew of hoops offers by the Pards this week. Some have already been mentioned earlier.

Verbalcommits.com shows the offer dated tomorrow, maybe an article coming.

No insider here, but sure looked like 13 on the '14 -'15 roster. Guessing 12 the year before.

Kachelries (13 offers, including Lafayette) says he intends to make his decision at the end of the summer.

“I’m keeping my options open right now,” said the 6-2 guard who plays for Emmaus. “I want to keep seeing places and hearing from schools. I’m looking maybe to end it around the end of the summer/beginning of the school year, after all these camps.”

Here's what worries me about David. I'm not sure if he took his SATs yet but I have heard rumors that if he scores high, he'll end up at a Ivy. If he doesn't reach that mark, Lafayette will be in the running. However if he doesn't score high enough for our admissions he will be rejected and he will go to Lehigh.

This is what pisses me off, admissions is prone to not giving a few students a break. I won't expect one every year but how about one every three years. Basketball only has 14/15 players. One player can mean a championship or two.  BRIAN EHLERS is an example.

He has already taken the SAT at least once - and very likely twice.

Except that one of our recently departed had an advertised 1040. Not claiming a lot of knowledge re the SAT, but hasn't there been at least one 60 point "recentering" in the not too distant past?  Putting him in the 900s in our day. Just saying, x, if you've heard griping about admissions, I don't doubt it.

Nor surprised that we didn't get him.  Fran gave him a year where he was the only PG offer for his class plus he didn't bring in a scholarship PG last year.  When DK didn't commit by end of his junior season, they offered a handful of other 2017 PGs.

DK plays in a bunch of Hoop Group events which is run by the Kennedy family.  New NJIT coach Brian Kennedy is part of this clan.  Plus, second batch of SAT scores came in.  Perhaps DK skewed more towards NJIT than IVY/PL.

That definitely could be possible.   He turned down nine good academic schools to go to a very mediocre one.   Over the course of his lifetime, it will probably cost him a lot of money.

While no official word on him ever was communicated by LC, there are articles and tweets regarding his commitment beginning in early May.  A Newsday article indicated that Jarrett was originally going to the Hun School for a year of prep before signing on with the Pards.

Perhaps he is still going to do a Prep season?

Awright Bill!

Dylan Hastings | 2017 PF | Solanco, PA
Hastings is a very skilled forward who’s able to score with his back to the basket or facing up in the midrange. He has good hands, a soft touch from a number of spots on the floor and he rebounds and runs the floor well for his size. However, the most impressive thing may have been his athleticism, as Hastings threw down a number of impressive finishes in transition.

Verbalcommits.com confirms what we had concluded from available info: Lucas Jarrett is our only scholarship addition to the previosly announced 3.

So, we play with 11 scholarship players this season. Losing 2 seniors leaves room for 4 2017 recruits, depending on if we grant the allowed 13.  No, Dont trust my math...Wink

Is it mismanagement to be playing with 11?  Is school policy regarding the scholarships of those who transferred out to blame?

I wouldn't draw any conclusions based on what is posted on Verbal Commits.  Although the site is useful, there are literally hundreds of errors on it.   You can find many walk-ons listed as scholarship players and vice-versa.   Sometimes they guess and other times they base their conclusion on some outdated cryptic tweet.

He's listed at 6-4 but I'm sure that wont stop you from knocking a 17 year old. Makes you feel like a big man. Nice job.
Yankeefan1922

Kpard is right in that there are some red flags here.  Stephens plays for St. Thomas Aquinas alongside Michael Akuchie who has offers from American, Colgate, Cornell and FIU.  The best I can gather, Stephens held no other D1 offers.

The team the duo plays for went 13-10 this season.  How does a team with two supposed D1 athletes have such a mediocre record?  I saw at least a half dozen 25+ point losses, including a pair of 30+. Why is a team with two supposed D1 athletes not more competitive.

Others have questioned if we are targeting the right players.  Recent results indicate that perhaps we are not.  I am not trying to trash these young men.  It is just that we are not seeing the results that a 250K investment warrants.

The biggest day in this young man's life, he's worked hard on the court and in the classroom, he's chosen to play for US and the reaction he gets is "What D3 schools did we beat out for him?"  And we have guys supporting it!  What a f'n despicable place this board has become.

A senior FB players tweeted thoughts on us:

"I hope the people on the Lafayette forum know that every football player knows about it. And we don't give a shit what you guys have to say"

There has to be a better way of expressing frustration with LC athletics than trashing HS kids.

My understanding always has been that we don't make ad hominem comments about players - current or prospective - on this board. If I'm wrong, somebody please let me know.

Comments about coaching, the nature of administration support, and overall recruiting goals are fair (I've certainly made my share of them). Comments about tactics, preparedness, conditioning, facilities, game conditions, scheduling, etc., likewise are fair. Comments about the ugliness that is Lehigh University always are fair.

But I don't see the purpose or the value in denigrating any student-athlete who plays for Lafayette, plans to play for Lafayette or who might like to play for Lafayette. I was there once and so were most of you.

Perhaps posters would like to create multiple boards.
I'm grateful that the moderator of this forum doesn't censor opinions.
If and when Lafayette sports returns to respectability things will change.
This board doesn't set the tone.
The relentless ineptitude on the field and in recruiting does. That is the independent variable.

The facts are egregious but they are still facts. They are actually mind-boggling.
With scholarships, viewpoints change. That's a fact of life and it's one of the reasons I didn't welcome the change in aid. It's a fact of life now and it's time programs were held accountable.

Do that and the fans will follow.

An aside, but after Coach Putnam's last game, some of the football players went to my house's cocktail party because they didn't want to face their own alumni after the loss.
No scholarships. Extra aid for some but no scholarships.
They felt the pressure as much or more so than today's players do.

Unrelated to sports but young men, beware of Twitter. Expressing yourself that way could hurt you in a job search one day. Things like that can make the difference. You represent yourself with every comment. What you might say often looks a lot worse in print.
The Internet is unforgiving.

Extremely proud to say that I am verbally committed to Lafayette College! #GoPards #ThanksBeToGod @LafayetteHoops

5-11 SG. What D3 schools did we beat out for him?

He's listed at 6-4 but I'm sure that wont stop you from knocking a 17 year old. Makes you feel like a big man. Nice job.

You know what my point is!

I have ALWAYS made it my practice to NEVER criticize any individual athlete on this board. If I have violated my own principles then I sincerely apologize to this young man, his family, and anyone who is or wants to be offended.
My comment is a result of the fourth straight and biggest loss in 12 years to our rival. Also, after winning a PL championship, witnesses the past two seasons. As an Alum, season ticket holder, it is frustrating.

Right denigrate the young man's teammates, his coaches, other LC athletes some who haven't even gotten here yet, day after day anonymously on a public forum, and  then  lecture the kid on decorum.  He's sticking up for his teammates, any employer that would hold that against him he wouldn't want to work for.  We  need to check OUR behavior.

Using the term "we don't give a shit" is alright?
That is no way to express oneself or present oneself.
