8-7 and headed to WorcesterThe FDU Knights weren't as bad as I thought they'd be. They matched up with us well in terms of size and speed, they were a pretty good defensive team, their problem is they can't shoot for squat. As a team they shot 38%, you take away their solid center Walkling and they shot 34%, from 3 point range they were an abysmal 13% (2-15).
I think I've been a pretty optimistic fan this year, and a win is a win is a win, but it wasn't our stalwart defense that kept these numbers low---they just missed open shots. If they shoot mediocre they (FDU) wins the game. They shot horribly, we won by 7.
Zavocki paced the offense with 17 and was one of four 'Pards who played over 30 minutes with Garner putting in 29 before fouling out. We had a 20 point lead early in the second half but the Knights kept fighting. Smith gave us 6 points off the bench in what I think was an effort to slow down Walkling. I repeat myself all the time on Smith--she has a hell of a soft touch for a 6'3 center.
Hey, with out non-league portion out of the way we are headed to Worcester above .500 and with an excellent shot of beating Holy Cross. The Crusaders would have to be considered a favorite at the Hart Center but I like our chances. They don't have a dominating center, we're strong where they are strong---I argue a little big stronger. Last year we were atrocious in OOC games and still did OK in the league. Well we were anything but atrocious this year OOC, I think we've got the talent to make serious noise in the league.

Much better first half effort tonight. The team came out and played with, dare I say it, URGENCY. We were all over the floor in the first half. Our three quarter court pressure put FDU in short clock situations on most possessions and resulted in them shooting only 25% for the half.
Our guards were much more involved accounting for 29 points compared to 9 against LaSalle. VDV much more patient going 5 of 9 compared to 4 of 14 against LaSalle. Only complaint is we seemed to lose focus the last 6-7 minutes of the games with TO's and fouls.
Now the real season starts. I expect us to finish no lower than 4th.

I haven't followed the women team as closely as i have in the past but with the win last night against Farleigh Dickinson, Tammy has eclipsed her best win total??? And we still have 14 games remaining.
Congratulations! It seems our coaches have adapted to recruiting with scholarships.

Of that there is no argument. It's hard not to get excited looking at the three frosh. Let's remember--that's her first real class in the sense she had a full recruiting cycle with scholarships. I would certainly give it an "A".
I think we have tied her best win total....But I could be wrong. Maybe I should hit goleopards.com
The only thing I worry about is a true "back to the basket" post player kiling us. I honestly think we have a shot at this thing. Maybe I'm nuts.
