@ High Point

There's always a hope.

Pards up 5-2 with 2 mins left in the half.
Bogus Megapardus

Jake Hyatt is back in goal.
Bogus Megapardus

It's 5-3 at the start of the third.  This is High Point's first year of lacrosse.  Their team consists entirely of first year players.  The coach was an assistant at Dartmouth.
Bogus Megapardus

5-4 midway through the third.  Are we going to lose to a college that I never knew existed?  Maybe they should join the PL . . .    Evil or Very Mad
Bogus Megapardus

Pards blow a three goal lead.  Now tied at 5.
Bogus Megapardus

Final period begins tied at 5.  How embarrassing.
Bogus Megapardus

And just like that, High Point takes the lead, 6-5.
Bogus Megapardus

8-7 Pards with 4 mins left.  Pards have 24 turnovers.
Bogus Megapardus

Regulation ends tied at 9.  Overtime.
Bogus Megapardus

Second OT.  Tied at 9.
Bogus Megapardus

Kevin Wanke scores with seconds left in 2OT to take it, 10-9.

Defeat even in victory.  Sad

.....and there are the three wins many of us expected - not a step forward, but not ready to say a step back just yet.  We can score, but we need help and time in midfield and in back.

I thought the problems with clearing and turnovers we have seen over the last couple of years had been corrected.  Apparently this is not the case.  10 failed clears and 27 turnovers this game along is maddening.  Combine that with the 70% clear rate and 26 turnovers against Army and we have a disturbing trend.  We ranked 6th to last in turnovers (average of 18 per game) before HPU.  I couldn't find a ranking for clear percentage but we must be near the bottom in that category.  The team is just giving away possessions lately.

I was thinking exactly the same thing last night.  Look especially at at the forced turnovers vs turnovers caused.  Season clear %age is .719.  That's really low.

We are quite good at getting penalties called on the other team.  We lead the NCAA Division 1 in man-up opportunities with 59 (next closest is Stony Brook with 50).  I have no idea why this would be the case but it's good to excel at something!

More importantly, EMO scoring is .356, which isn't all that shabby.

If we win one more game this season, PLEASE let it be Lehigh on 4/20.

My entirely reasonable wish list for 2014:

- Play a full 15-16 game schedule (13 games is lame)
- Play two ACC teams or an AAC plus Hopkins
- Go 8-7 overall and 4-4 in "expanded" PL
- Beat all the Wagner/Marist/Manhattan/Providence/Binghamton type teams our schedule
- Increase clear %age to over .850
- Reduce turnovers dramatically
- FO %age to .525 or better
- Beat Lehigh, and either Colgate or Bucknell, and either Army or Navy
- Don't lose to BosU's first-year program
- Recruit fast, physical, athletic DI-sized long poles and a top-flight goalie
- Recruit an awesome FOGO to replace Rau and whoever fills Rau's shoes to start the season
