@ Holy Cross

So the Pards travel to Woo to face the 2-8 Crusaders (0-5 PL).  They're the only team beneath us in the PL rankings - but they've yet to face Metropolitan College.  It's a 1:00 PM Saturday start and it'll be live on PLN.

The Crusaders beat us last season because of the outstanding play of James Kennedy, who now has graduated.  I well recall that game from my luxurious chairback perch in the Fisher stands. This season junior middie Terry McKenna (Kennedy's teammate at Summit) and sophomore attack Sean Wilkinson are picking up the slack offensively for Holy Cross.  Michael Ortlieb remains in goal for the Infidels.

Holy Cross freshman Ben Williams has been tearing it up for the most part at FOGO (.524) but Williams went only 6-20 in their last game at Lehigh (a 20-4 dumping from the soiled cheeks of the Bloviating Brownbottoms).

The HC roster is widespread geographically; some from New England (as one would expect) but lots also from across the country including NJ/NY/MD powerhouses.  Very diverse lineup.

Holy Cross' 2014 schedule hasn't been as flaccid as Lafayette's.  They've played better OOC competition (St. John's, Harvard, Fairfield); they've lost to these stronger teams by lesser margins than Lafayette has lost to lesser OOC teams.  The Crusaders' margin against other PL teams is just as dismal as ours.

LaxPower has the Crusaders pegged near the bottom of Division I - about on par with Lafayette. Prediction?  I have none.  I can hope only for the best.  This game is for the future as much as it is for the present.

From GoLeopards.com, concerning the April 18 season closer vs. the Taunt n' Squawks:
The Leopards final home game against Lehigh will have an admission fee of $5 for bleacher seats and $10 for chairback seats. Fans should enter Fisher Stadium through Gate #2. Lafayette faculty, staff and students with a current ID will receive free admission.

Umm, OK.  But . . .

the game will be on PLN

For the students that go maybe the admission is credited to the LAX account…/??   It's the only thing that  makes any sense. Who else would pay 5 dollars much less 10 to sit in an empty stadium.

"To sit in an empty stadium" AND get are butts whipped by those who know the most about that end of the horse.  More pure genius from our administration.

What am I bet that if we had a conference on diversity and inclusion the seats to that event would be scott free.

Great point by "seen."  Clearly he has seen a lot!

Unbelievable.  Fans should be paid by the school to attend this game.

Loyola gets 10 bucks per fanny.  So do Rutgers and Navy.  Army gets $8.  Maybe somebody thinks somehow we belong in that universe.

We don't.  And it's embarrassing given the quality of the product and the college's negligible support for the program.

That said, I'd pay $10 were we a contender or a perennial top 20 team - or had any hope to be. But we're not, and we don't.

EDIT - so let's say I go to the Lehigh game and pay my five bucks for a bleacher seat (which I probably will do because I like lacrosse and I hate Lehigh).  How much more will it cost the program/college to pay all those people whose job it will be to make sure that I don't plunk my butt down in one of those top-drawer, ten dollar chairbacks instead?

3-1 Holy Cross near the end of the 1st quarter.  Pard failuring is evident once again.
Bogus Megapardus

Orazietti's EMO makes it 4-3 at the half.  We have some talent and the guys are working furiously but it's just the little things.  Matt Evans, I hate to pick on you, but c'mon, dude.  You can't lose it like that when we have that kind of possession opportunity.  Six turnovers total in the first half.

Once again, WAY too much time swatting at flies in our defensive end.  Lafayette offensive opportunity/time has become a rare and precious opportunity.

And once again, Jake Hyatt - you're the man.  How you maintain your composure when the defense leaves massive empty expanses in front of you; it's a miracle for sure.
Bogus Megapardus

And just like that we're down 6-3.

Once the Pards lose this game this afternoon - and they will lose - I'm pretty sure Lafayette will finally get that LaxPower "Worst Team in the Nation" status that it seems to covet so desperately.
Bogus Megapardus

9-4 Holy Cross.  Pard D is just bending over and taking it up the backside.

This is beyond humiliating.
Bogus Megapardus

Meanwhile, WLax is tied with American U. 11-11.  I'm switching to that game.  Men's lax at Lafayette appears to be beyond repair.
ed65

The less said the better about the disaster that is the men's LAX Program.  This sport needs scholies and a lot of alum financial support if it is going to compete in the PL.

Can somebody please tell me what SonnyRound was doing out there today

Sonny Round appeared to be trying to take the game in his gloves.  I can't fault him for that. Did he have a choice, with all that high school-style S-L-O-W set up around him?  Nor should I have faulted Evans, necessarily, for his middie back fast break attempt.  At least he tried. That's something at least.  He did drop the damn thing, though . . .

Anyone notice how the HC frosh took the FO fast break opportunity to the net?  One could just wish, you know?

EDIT - I watched a bit of the Colgate-Lehigh game, too.  For chrissake, what a difference. Lehigh got the of it but at least Gate looked like they belonged there.  Pards?  Not so much. We're glorified D-III at best.  In fact, we'd probably lose to Salisbury, Cortland, RPI, Gettysburg, etc.

It's going to take a committed D-I coach, a full 12.6 rides and an entirely new roster to resurrect this damn thing.  What a freakin' shambles.
Bogus Megapardus

Let's add this - a coach who knows how to recruit true D-I scholarship-caliber players.  Someone who's been there, done that.  There's no sense in throwing a bunch of money at wannabes with shiny resumes.  We need the kids who legitimately have offers from Hopkins, Maryland, Virginia, Rutgers, etc.

I'm miles beyond both frustrated and perplexed.
pards4ever

Not to be negative, but i would only keep Cannon Bock Orazietti Gallagher Mccooe Confalone....Everybody else is a D3 player at best

Not snarking here, recruiting is getting some better players and he is hitting the right areas but not yet getting 1st line players from those areas. Time. Lax like football needs 3 or 4 classes to turn around.

Yep - little sense in recruiting Garden City or Calvert Hall or Delbarton if the best you can get is their ninth-string LSM and their water boy (with the exception of knowing they'll be well trained and well coached).

Rich, you guys are going to annihilate us next Friday.  I cringe to think that but it's true.  I know that lacrosse can be a tough game to watch if you didn't play it and didn't grow up around it. People are unfamiliar with the rules and the strategies and it's tough to follow the ball.

But when you're down, say by 10, at the half lacrosse becomes a dreadful spectacle.  Lafayette will never draw students and locals to the games unless we at minimum are able to play our traditional sports rivals close.  Everyone will tune out because it's just not worth watching.  Even I will tune out - and I come from a family with four generations of collegiate lacrosse.
RichH

Smile Probably so,but doesn't say Pards aren't getting better. We lucked out with getting Kevin early before the current rise in lax popularity and heavier recruiting by State schools. Also,Kevin got full funding mix of need and merit money. He has access to those premium prospects and we get 2 or 3 of top kids every year. Tougher landscape now for Pards as they are a bit late to the dance. Must have $$$,Pards have the history. Look at Bucknell, great run, coaching but they are not fully funded. The slide down can be meteoric. Loyola raises the bar for all of us, same with BU,both fully funded.
Bogus Megapardus

Loyola is ranked number 1 in the nation in the coach's poll and in the LaxPower poll at present. That indeed is a high bar.  Lafayette now must approach lacrosse with the understanding that the nation's No. 1 team in in its conference.

Yes, if Bucknell doesn't approve at least some scholarships soon, I am afraid of a slide.   Fedorjaka has done a great job without much money but it's hard to keep that up in today's lax environment.   Ironically, his past success - and the success of BU's soccer coach Brendan Nash - has likely given the Administration an excuse to not fund either program.
RichH

We all have to accept that the landscape has changed. For years HS lax grew by leaps and bounds while college did not.Left lots of talent availale torecruit w/o schollies. Not so much now with more emphasis by so many colleges. particularly out west

Take a look

As a father of a recruit coming to Lafayette this fall, I hope that the team does not read this board. Way too much negativity. My son was recruited by Brown, Army, Cornell and others. Chose Lafayette for the academics and coaching staff. The team is rebuilding.

Laxdad....i doubt your son got recruited by Brown and Cornell....and turned it down ....don't BS me i have been around Lax for a long time

"a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush" Never said anything about being offered, but at some point, you need to make a choice so your are not left out in the cold.

It's great that you have been a fan of lacrosse for a long time. But it's sad that you always had to watch from the sidelines.
pards4ever

So now you are saying that your daughter didn't get offered...listen Laxmom go follow HS lax
Bogus Megapardus

Laxdad - why do you imagine we're here?  Because we couldn't care less about Lafayette lacrosse and we'd just as soon see the team lose?
