A "Play in" game with Loyola at home

The playoff format for the PL is a little strange.  The women's team gets a home game against an under manned (or under woman-ed) Loyola team.  Maybe they can get a win then most likely be trounced when they play a top seed.  Other than the win over Lehigh at home, the play of this group in the PL part of the schedule has been a huge disappointment - after a winning record in the OC schedule.

Emily Homan has been a special player for the College, and we will miss seeing her play next year.  Ashley Lutz came of age this year on the boards and will play a big role next year, and I have to give kudos to Jamie O'Hare (she played well most of the season).  Beyond that, the outlook for this team is dismal for next year.  Is it time for a coaching change to someone who can really recruit and win in Feb?  It will be interesting to see.  The highlight of Coach Nolan's career may have been the win at Stabler during her first season when she got a crash course in how serious the rivalry is with the Brown and White.  She looked like she was surprised at the absolute joy of every member of that team when they  ran off into the locker room after the game.

It's year five. All of the players are ones she brought in. We haven't been anything close to a league contender yet and I can't imagine we'll be any better in year 6.

If the standard is "competitive based athletics" - which Bruce defined as every athlete having a realistic chance to win a PL title during their tenure than this program isn't measuring up. (O'Hanlon actually passes by that standard IMHO).

If the standard is giving the marketing guys just enough to make it look like things are moving in the right direction than Nolan's in good shape. This is the best 2-year span, record wise sine the 90's. Of course that comes with a huge asterisk.

I'm underwhelmed at this point. If my math is right, Emily Homan's leaving as the second leading scorer AND rebounder in the progams history - we can't get a supporting cast to get a contender? O'Hare (who has gotten immensely better this season) is not going to have many options besides shooting next year.

This isn't working.

Carney: I don't agree with you about football.  Two consecutive wins over LU and  PL Championship are progress compared with the years after Weiss cut the equivalencies.  The staff is learning the athletic scholie drill.  All this being said, I agree with you about the seemingly never ending problems with the  O-Line.

Thanks, Ed!  Carney and his lehigh buddies like to cite the 5 losing seasons, conveniently forget Weis' negative impact, and even call for Coach T to go.  I have to point out 4 championships in 11 years, 8-4 in the league and a title over the last two.  Lumping  LC football in with LC WBB is just wrong.

That said,  who here hasn't pointed out the dreary state of the ADept? We've probably won about 35% of contests during this athletic administration's tenure.  Much of the damage, of course, inflicted by policies from on high.

Maybe I shouldn't give any credence to the standard Bruce set of everyone having a "realistic" chance to win a championship at least once during their four years at Lafayette. At the time though - I thought it was a nice vision and reasonable goal.

When the deck is stacked against you it makes it harder to maintain that standard and thus some flexibility is warranted. Tavani makes the cut. I thought we backed in to the title 2 years ago but there's no asterisk on the trophy - we were the 2013 league champs. Combine that with the ass-whoopin he gave Lehigh at Yankee stadium (let's be real - we all had nightmares about a similar outcome happening to us) - he can coast into retirement for all I care.

Fran also makes the "realistic chance at a title" cut.  Less than two years ago we rocked Kirby so bad they had to put in new seats because we took down Lehigh in the semis (ok - slight rewriting of history) - but as far as I'm concerned, this team here had and has a realistic chance of taking it all. I didn't like how Bruce let Fran leverage an offer with LaSalle into a tenured position - but apparently that's how things work.

The one whose not making the cut is Nolan. I didn't argue with the decision to let her predecessor go (we need a code name - I think she has some sort of feed going that tracks her name) and for the first half of her first season the 'Pards were exciting and the future was bright - but her league record is atrocious. Barring an unimaginable run - this years seniors graduate without ever coming close to being a PL contender. They are all her players. The immediate future doesn't look any better. She's got a full-scholarship squad with all of the players recruited by her.  So if Bruce maintains his standard - it's time to waive goodbye.

But we all know that won't happen...After all - she's only had two  years with the revamped Kirby - we have to give her a chance to play that through. It's been the best four year run since (I don't know...but we've been bad for a while) - Yup - she can coast into retirement too. In fact - hell..Re-sign her..That way she won't have to combat the negative recruiting (God we're full of excuses!)

I hate the new and improved Kirby btw. Looks like hell on TV. Stale environment - it has more curb appeal than the old place, but we'll never, ever, have an environment like the Lehigh game (or several others) again.

As for Carney - to paraphrase Jack Nicholson's famous rant in a few good men - His existence, as annoying as it is to fans like us, the fact of the matter is we WANT him on this board...We NEED him on this board..
