A Tournament Win?

I hate to concede anything - but based on what I saw of the Bison last week only a meltdown of monumental proportions combined with a game for the ages on our part is going to get us the W tonight. Yes - it could happen...But I'm not counting on it.

I AM starting to think we drew a pretty good card even though our overall record in Worcester is painfully bad. The Crusaders opened up a 26-7 lead in the first quarter when they visited Kirby and I began to think we would never come within 20 points of a league win again - but since that opening debacle we've outscored the purple haze 139-111. I realize that this stat is kinda silly - but I'm trying to keep up with our hard-working SID crew.

I'm hoping - more than anything else - we have an identity at this point.

I'm cautiously optimistic about the class we've got coming in (yeah yeah...they're always great on paper but from what I can tell these girls are legit) and the continued development of the underclassmen...well I'll say it - 10 wins or bust next year.

No upset in Lewisburg, but I think the future is brighter than we thought in January. Gumbs' freshman year numbers are similar to Emily Homan's, and if we can minimize the steps backwards from the graduation losses of Harriet, Maia and Lutz, hopefully we can at least look back at 2016-17 as the nadir and not "the new normal" for Lafayette women's hoops.

But first things first... a winnable tournament game at the Hart House of Horrors.

Gumbs is averaging a substantial 18.5 PPG over the last 8 outings. It will be nice next season not to have to wonder if we have anyone who can score consistently. I'm starting to get excited about her upside now.

This HAS to be the nadir. There's no reason in the world we need to be as bad as this. 54 losses in two seasons? WITH SCHOLLIES?!

I honestly think we can get to ten wins next year.

BREAK UP THE LEOPARDS!

Congratulations to all involved for a playoff win.  The competition ramps up considerably on Monday Night at Navy.  Hope springs eternal!

Its a win and congrats to the ladies.  Makes the feeling heading into next year a bit better.  Still need someone to explain how Coach reconciles burying Ashley Lutz on the bench for 3/4 of a season.  I don't get that one.

Best of luck tonight, Ladies. Let's get another one!
Beat Navy!

For non-locals who may have missed this:

http://www.mcall.com/sports/colle...enging-season-20170301-story.html

That was the lead sports story Friday in the Morning Call. Amid high school basketball playoffs and wrestling, that's something of a coup for Sports Information.
The story is a fair look at the squad and the coach. I think the Mighty Macs aren't noted.

Gumbs gets extra space and Bruce gives Coach Grentz a vote of confidence:

"[Grentz is] a consummate professional," McCutcheon said. "She's working on the whole culture of our women's basketball program. She's doing everything she can trying to instill that championship culture with our team."

Stay the course. What else can Lafayette do?

Maybe two playoff wins?
When neither team can shoot, perhaps that favors the Lady 'Pards.
Navy is 11 for 50. Lafayette is 12 for 48.
Wow.

Navy went on a run. All over.
Thanks seniors.

This team can compete. Avoid too many steps backward from the loss of the seniors and we're headed in the right direction. Fingers crossed.
