Amanda Magadan select to all american team

Amanda Magadan was selected to third team all american team, add to her selections to 1st team all league and all region team. She was also a member of the US under 21 team starting in the World Cup games recently in Santiago Chile. The team make it to the quarter finals.

It's too bad we couldn't have made better use of her talents while she was here.

IP; While I am not a FH Expert, I think Amanda's skills were well used, especially this year when she excelled as a playmaker.  She was the best player of the field by far in every game I saw this year.  The problem was the forwards who simply could not put the ball in the cage.  She would set them up but they simply didn't score.  Had LC's record been better and they won the PL Championship, I think she might have  been a first team All American.

Agreed!

Don't get me wrong, I am in no way disparaging the efforts or contributions of Ms. Magadan during this season. However, this feels to me an opportunity lost, given the overall talent on the team. I don't disagree with your assessment on the forward play, but after reviewing the available video archives, one could point to many holes in the system. Just take a look at some of the resumes of these girls. They're not slouches, they can play. I put the results of this season squarely on the heads of the coaches. That they couldn't capitalize on the singular talent of Ms. Magadan with the corps of players around her... no, this is directly on them.

Re: coaching,  IP, I completely agree with you.

So far, 4 losing seasons in a row which ties the record set since 2000 ( I think which included two coaches  the last time we had four in a row, end of Gold and first year of Griffiths).

To me the turning point this year was the American game. We led 1-0 at the end of the half. We had momentum. We start the second half in defensive mode. We continued to play defense until American scores. We no longer had momentum.

You have to play to win and not to play not to lose.

I still say we need more speed from our mids and forwards.

Especially in a League that is much better than several years ago. In order to win the League you have to be a top twenty team. This year American Nbr 20 beats nbr 15 BU. In the semis American won by 1-0 score over Holy Cross who beat us. We now have a fully funded scholarship program, we must do better!!
Even with Magadan gone, there is a lot of talent. BIG question mark at goal. Need speed at mid- field. Jonckheer needs to be healthy. I hear perhaps another dutch girl coming!

Grace Angella from Harding is a winner with a lot of heart will join the team next fall. There is also a defender from Ireland who has signed ( originally from the Reading area).

Speed is always good. We do still have some girls on the team with good speed, even with the ball. However, the modern turf game is all about the pass. If you don't think that is so, take a look at the Delaware/UNC championship game, or what Duke did to American or even what Delaware did to Lafayette for that matter. This team does not pass or receive the ball well. And it's not just the accuracy of the ball off of the stick. Decision making is slow, positioning in space is poor, movement before and after the pass is either nonexistent or confoundingly off-course. If you are looking for the low-hanging fruit, this is the area where I would concentrate my efforts.

Let me allow you into a story that one of the parents told me this season. After one of their late season losses (I forget which one, maybe Albany), the coaches "punished" the team by having them go through a static passing drill for 30 minutes, or some other absurd amount of time. Static?! Really, coach?! If this game were played like foosball, then, maybe. Is there really any question why this season was lost?

I agree with all of the above. However, a lot of the poor positioning, and lack of good passing has to do with the substitution pattern. Often times players ended out of position and they looked liked didn't know where their teammates were on the field. This was evident especially in the latter part of the season.

Cutting the playing time of Rosie Shanks and the injury to Rosa hurt shot production. The Bucknell game was a perfect example, added to being intimidated by the poor playing surface. They psyched themselves out.

Hmmm...how does one spell, coaching?

Was Shanks hurt? I thought it was just the Dutch girl who was injured.

No, she was not hurt.

While it certainly is not the only reason for the poor execution (scoring, lack of speed etc.) of the forwards, the decrease in playing time for Shanks is a real mystery.  Anyone know why?
