Anyone At Tuesday's Scrimmage?

C'mon, we need a complete report.

Was this THE scrimmage for this preseason?
Who is the no. 2 QB?
Is anyone seriously pushing White at RB?
Frank is buzzing about Rudolph.  Is he obviously bigger?  Will he be a force?
Injury report.
Who was in the starting OL?
Are Bennett and Padia getting it done?
Goldsmith is out for the season, right?  Then, who are the LBs besides Leggiero and Schmidlein?
Any obvious changes in the offense without Hef?
Any signs of a pass rush out of the defensive front 4?

And so much more.

I was there, in response to your ?s

1. Don't know
2. Oneil last night
3. Hard to tell in a scrimmage
4. Couldn't tell from the top of the stands
5. A lot in street clothes, OLs, QB, DBs, LBs, couple of injuries during the game.
6. & 7. Didn't have a roster with me.
8. A lot of the passes were to Stripe.
9. We did run some plays with just one RB, overall nothing dramtic.
10.Had some good pass rushes, not sure if it was the D or the OL
11. Andy was there with binoculars, rosters, clipboard, taperecorder, and camcorder. I'm sure he'll post his comments later today after he finishes his shift at the pool.

Very funny!   Sorry I couldnt make it, but this has been passed on to me:

In attendance, non-participants:

Quilling--bandaged left wrist
Zott--blondish kid on crutches,  Zott?
Leggiero
Predmore--apparent hamstring, jogging in shorts on sideline
Moore
Wojcik
Buffalino
Poulsen

Not observed at all:

Ferrara--off roster
Ricks??
Gould
Whitesell--broken hand per  Reinhard
Dixon--was it him or Simmons filming upstairs with Buffalino?
Kajmo--redshirt?
Holmes??
Simmons--torn MCL per Reinhard, stinks, good player

Starting o-line:

Wotring, Wysinowski, Welch,  Eck (?), Crooks.  Crooks looked to be in improved physical shape.  The kid from Iona was the back-up center. There were a # of muffed snaps, esp w/ Shoop, need work.

D-Line:

Irving, Phillips, Dell, Gerowski

Young D-line that I love:

Basil, Lyster, Marshalek, Protin.  Frank had said Protin would play DT for us, maybe moved outside w/ Whitesell injury.  I like the move.

LB--Schmidlien, Eaton, Brown

Dixon injured?

Mo--had several carries, nothing special, didnt get hurt.

DeAndre--several carries, looking for a big year from him.

Rudolph--I love this kid!  So fluid, great acceleration. Fumbled again, doh!

Emery Young #4--super quick, eye catching quick, originally a slot receiver now at TB.  Wow

Cumming--pass in the flat, broke a tackle

Hall--now back-up FB, showed speed and nice catch on a wheel route

Ferber--back at FB not TB, assume due to Rivas situation

Curley--looked sharp

Shoop--athletic and innovative with various releases. Picked off in the flat for a defensive TD.  Scolded that "you have to see that!"  Later intentionally threw one at the feet of a receiver when covered--good to see.  QB of the future has to cut down on INTs that were a HS problem.

Stripe--great to see him demonstrate catching ability, several good ones including one deep in endzone and one that he had to twist back to make.  Opened the scrimmage with a long running gain.  This kid is a loaded gun.

The two frosh RBs showed some skills, decent gains, good speed; however Hebron fumbled at end of a nice run.

O'Neill--continues to throw pretty well on the move.

Starting CBs were Ellis and the other Ellis.  Lowe was dressed, participated n drills, didnt play. Impressive athleticism in the whole bunch, frosh especially.

Safeties--McGovern and Oliver. Forbragd and McGovern the younger backups w/ Simmons gone and Nardone I guess still gone (poor kid)

Hayes--made some catches, Bennet some catches. These were mostly stop patterns, short.  I'd like to see Bennet and Padia catch some balls over their head running a down field pattern,  dont see it much if at all.

Kondash--inconsistent as usual (10 yarder vs Lehigh led to a score, ouch) if it keeps up, give the freshman a shot.

This scrimmage was ten times better to watch than the spring game disaster which was defense dominated.  Coach said after this that the d was very restricted in what they were allowed to do.

Injuries:

Only Eaton who, much to my chagrin, came off the field with a left hand problem. (missed last yr w/ a broken hand).  Came out of Bourger with a contraption that apparently kept the hand or fingers iced. Did not return to action. Coach said afterwords that there were no major injuries, so I'm hopeful for the big guy.

Enemy view.  Not a surprise Ferrara left as you have plenty of RB's, BUT now not enough linemen.  Protin will be an impact player in my limited veiwing of him.  You do seem to alot of injures but then again so do we.

I hear you on Ferrara, but i wish he had hung around. There was pretty strong competition for him coming out of HS if i recall the articles correctly.  Although he may have felt left out, someone has to play JV and I can name several instances where the JV freshman eventually beat out his classmate who preceeded him to varsity.  Conte would be the most recent.  I must say however that Rudolph appears to be a shoe-in for star status in this league if he keeps working, growing and can conquer the fumble-itis.  Great job IMO by our staff in finding/landing him from Georgia.

I, too, love what I saw re Protin in that AS game. Great speed, mobility for his size.  I was kind of surprised our staff had him slotted at DT before Whitesell's injury apparently forced Protin's move to DE where I'd expected to see him.  He will have to work to see the field at DE, several ahead of him, including the frosh Basil (another good one) based on the scrimmage.  Both Lyster (DT) and Basil worked on 2nd team, granted not much depth any more.
