at Wagner

Friday, February 17 at Hamline Field on Staten Island, at 4:00 PM, visiting the Wagner Seahawks. The game (supposedly) will be streamed on NEC Front Row, here:

http://necfrontrow.com/webcast.php/WC-4163/

The stream has yet to be announced "officially" by Wagner MLax but there's no reason I can see why it shouldn't come through. NEC Front Row typically is quite reliable.

I'm going with the notion that the Pards opener was just a hiccup. I'm clearing my calendar to watch this game. I want to see the speed, the athleticism and the pure talent that Lafayette MLax been touting for several years, beginning with Jim Rogalski's first recruiting class. It's all supposed to be in place now and it's going to be put on display for us to enjoy. We'll be watching.

Will also be watching.  Must take care of business here or we are facing another very long season.  Wagner is a team we should put away early and keep foot on gas until finish.

Wagner lost 14-13 in 3OT last Saturday to Manhattan, a perennial MAAC doormat that they beat 15-8 last year. So I don't know if there's such a thing as a "must win" in February, but this would be about as close as it gets if you have any sort of expectations for the Leopards this spring.

Well, if truth be told, last year's not-so-good Pards beat Wagner 12-7, and the year before that the not-so-good Pards beat the Seahawks 10-5. This season I'm hoping for dominance. I suppose I'll shrug off equipoise but I'll go ballistic if there's regression. Mad

EDIT - Recent history vs. Wagner:
    2016  12-7  Win
    2015  10-5  Win
    2013  13-9  Win
    2012  19-2  Win
    2011  16-8  Win
    2010  15-4  Win
    2009  15-4  Win
    2008  16-4  Win
    2007  16-4  Win
    2006  14-5  Win
    2005    7-8  Loss (OT)
    2004    8-4  Win
    2003  11-5  Win
    2002  15-3  Win
For those keeping score at home, that's 187 goals for and 72 goals against, since 2002. (In 2005 - the year of the only loss to Wagner -  we actually beat Colgate!)

Kinda puts "must win" in perspective, dontcha think? Rolling Eyes
Bogus Megapardus

Also - if one of you wiseguys suggests I go back and do the FOGO stats for all those games, I'll quit. Laughing

EDIT - Couldn't resist - Pards won the FOGO battle 11 of 19 in the only loss in 2005. So there. (Statistically we should've killed in that game.)

Bogie - What, no GB's??

I promised someone I would help string nets after work, but I see the NEC has an IPhone App.  Looking forward to catching some of the game and hoping, like everyone else, to see this group succeed.

Some wins this spring would sure be nice.  Good to see the women off and running.

GoLeopards has no mention WHATSOEVER of this afternoon's MLax game, other than a one-line notation on the schedule that the game exits. At least they're being consistent, I suppose.

Seriously, folks . . . how much effort would it take to mention that the game will be streamed (via NEC Front Row) here:

http://necfrontrow.com/webcast.php/WC-4163/

or that Wagner will provide Live Stats here:

http://www.sidearmstats.com/wagner/mlax/

Is this the AD's way of trying to pretending that Lafayette College Men's Lacrosse doesn't exist (with the hope that it will go away)? Confused
Bogus Megapardus

OK, so beating Notre Dame 10-2 in baseball this afternoon is a much bigger deal than playing Wagner in MLax, but still . . . .  Wink
Bogus Megapardus

O playing much tighter to the crease. I like it. Clears no longer are ugly.

That said, Pards just went down 0-1.
Bogus Megapardus

1-1 at the end of the first quarter. I wouldn't be worried about Wagner's possession time advantage if the Pards were landing a few of their shots. But they're not.

Also, "playing with confidence" is not the same thing as passing the ball to an open space on the field and expecting a teammate to appear miraculously to catch it. It doesn't work that way.
Bogus Megapardus

The Pards sort of "look better" but in truth Wagner is playing us straight up. It's very quickly starting to look like the same ol', same ol'.
Bogus Megapardus

In years past the Pards have dominated Wagner. Now they're struggling just to match the Seahawks.
Bogus Megapardus

Wagner now is turning simple shots into goals and making it look routine. This game will come down to 1-2 goals.

I will give the Leopards this, though - they appear to be working much, much harder at it than the Seahawks.
seenalot

Only looking at stats would make it look like we should be winning - but we have only 2 saves on 7 shots.....sun in eyes?

Cant get NEC feed.
Bogus Megapardus

It's halftime. The Pards are losing to Wagner College. I'm going to stop watching this game now because I just cannot bear it any longer.

If the score ends up the way I think it's going to end up, I promise all of you I will never, ever again post anything on this board about Lafayette College Men's Lacrosse. It would be a complete waste of everybody's time.
WVPard

Poor shot selection by Pards.
leopard88

7-6 bad guys, late in the 3rd.
leopard88

Same 9:00 left.  Wagner's goalie has made too many really nice saves while I have been watching.  Lafayette has had almost all of the possession.[/i]
leopard88

7-7.  6:28 left.
leopard88

8-7 bad guys, 3:44 left.  Big FO coming.

Wagner wins the FO on a weird sideline scramble.
WVPard

9-7.  2 mins left.  Wow.
WVPard

9-8 final.   Not good.
leopard88

9-8 final.  Evil or Very Mad

One question, one observation.

1.  Why was Lafayette's goalie 10-15 yards out of the crease when Wagner scored its 9th goal with about 2:30 left?  If he decided to help double team, he wasn't in position to do it and no one else seemed to know that was the plan . . . and it was way too early to start doubling in a one goal game.

2.  I started watching during the 3rd quarter.  Lafayette had possession most of the time that I watched, but was insanely deliberate with the ball.  Even after taking possession with about 1:45 left and down 9-7, they only took three (maybe four) shots before scoring with 0:11 left.  There didn't seem to be much urgency, even at that stage.
leopard88

Just looked at the stats.

1.  I wouldn't have guessed shots were almost even (38-36 Lafayette) . . . but I missed 60% of the game.

2.  Lafayette won the FO battle 14-7.  That's consistent with Lafayette dominating possession (again, from what I saw).

3.  Saves -- Lafayette 8, Wagner 17.  That is completely consistent with what I saw.  I saw Wagner score twice on what seemed like no more than 8 shots.  Meanwhile, Lafayette either missed the mark or got stoned over and over.
WVPard

Eights - Wondering the same things.

Our offensive possessions reminded me of Canada v. USA (was it last year or 2 years ago when Canada basically stalled the entire game?).  We kept passing around perimeter, and passing, and passing and holding the ball.

Down 2, passing and passing and passing and holding the ball.  Seemingly very little pressure being applied to the D.  At least from video, very little sense of urgency offensively.

For the most part, I thought the D made some decent plays.  As Eights pointed out, big mistake at the end that looked caused by some confusion.

Hey, perhaps things will get easier!  Whoa boy - Loyola on 2/25.  Put on your big boy pants fellas.
leopard88

Loyola is about 30 minutes from home for me.  I'm not sure if I'm enough of a glutton for punishment to make the trip.[/u]
WVPard

Eights - Lucky for you, the game is in the friendly confines of Fisher Stadium.  You won't have to agonize over your decision to attend.

But, I will work on my positive vibes and imagine how great it will be when we knock off the Hounds.
leopard88

1.  I knew that.  Duh.

2.  I will be there in spirit.

I'm not holding  you to this - and I doubt anyone else will either!

I don't think our funding is on par with virtually any of the teams we play - and FWIW I don't think Wagner has passed us by - it just appears the stars aligned nicely for them last Friday.

I will agree with this.  As I said above, I only saw the last 1/3 of the game, but Lafayette controlled possession through most of that time.  Our boys could have done more to put pressure on the defense, but there were also a few big saves by Wagner's goalie.  At the other end, Wagner converted almost every chance it had.
