Wow! One league loss and the board goes silent! Plenty of hoops to play my friends. Still looking forward to several home playoff games. But, first, the kanigets! Got to up tempo it and get the score in the 70s'. Go Pards!

Agreed - I vote we alternate Kari and Detmer on Jarell Brown try to shut him down and see what the other four can do.

Nice win Pards! Looks like our inside game improved substantially by shooting close to 60 percent.
What's going on with the rest of the league?? Lehigh beats bucknell, colgate beats holy cross, and navy is up on american. We are in sole possesion of first again, and by no means is it safe by the looks of things.

Well, it was a great shooting night for us but certainly not for Army. Andrew's 11 for 18 (9 of 15 from the arc) plus 3 of 3 from the line for 34 points lead the way. We shot 58% from the floor, 55% from 3 point land, and 77% from the charity stripe. The Cadets were 39% from the floor, only 9% from beyond the arc, and 77% from the line.
Actually P4L, our inside game wasn't much to write home about, only 14 points in the paint, compared to 30 for Army. And, Army's leading scorer was their F/C Doug Williams with 19.
Great job by Abdullah on Jarell Brown (Kari & Gruner also covered him at times) holding him to 6 points. Brown injured his back in a fall at mid-court around the 8 minute mark in the second half and had to leave the game. When he left the arena, he could not stand up straight and had to be helped by two coaches.
We outrebounded the Cadets 30-23.
For the game, 29 of our 43 shots were 3 pointers.

It's shaping up as a difficult and exciting second half of the season. Assuming that Fran's kids are up to the task on Saturday vs. American (but apparently you can't assume anything in the PL this year), they will have to play 3 of their top 4 competitors (Holy Cross, Bucknell and American) on the road. Win 2 of those plus settle the score with the Bethlehem bunch at home and we will have lots of home playoff dates to add to our Blackberries.

This AU game scares me. I saw them at Stabler against the squawks for the first league game and they destroyed them. Carr had 25 or so. I hope the home cooking continues to work for the Pards. Surprisingly HC is on the verge of a collapse! What happened there? Anyone have any insight on BU's coach? He left the game last night with 3/4 of the second half remaining. An article in the Atown Morning Call chronicles his previous issues and mental state. Sad.
Go Pards!

Here's my take on the situation. We had Lehigh dead to rights at Stabler and went cold shooting. The team was pretty embarassed by that lose and took it out on Army. American is very hot and cold which is the only reason you can explain their 3-3 record in the league and how they beat Maryland but lost to Navy by double digits.
I think if you took a poll of the coaches and players, they will say lafayette is by far the hardest team to prepare for and defend. We can put 4 shooters on the floor and lose very little on defense. this makes it near impossible to play a zone against us. The best way to defend us is to slow the tempo of the game; limit the number of possessions and hit the offensive boards (although this team is rebounding much better then their size indicates). The weather will be nice tomorrow which means a huge crowd at Kirby. I think this team is focused right now. Fran will keep reminding them of the second half vs. Lehigh.
The second time through the league will be much tougher. I don't expect friendly trips to HC (although I think you can put a fork in them), bucknell or Army. BTW, Andrew Brown has one of the quickest releases I have seen in a long time.

You may well be able to put a fork in Holy Cross as far as the regular season standings go. But if they get completely healthy, there is a good chance that they will still be the favorites in the tournament.
(That is a big "if", however, since Vanderbaan's back injury might require a long time to heal and who knows about Doherty's achilles. Meister should be ready to go shortly, however, but Dixon will probably never be healthy.)

American could be a tough matchup for us. I could see us having a difficult time defending Carr and Mercer, especially if they're hitting from the outside. I remember the tough time we had controlling FDU's quick guards, and I hope we won't see a repeat of that. I do think we've improved significantly on defense since then. I hope that our guards don't gamble too much on the perimeter defending against Carr and Mercer, giving them an opening to drive to the hoop.
I agree with Bison 137's thoughts re: Holy Cross. If Doherty, Vander Baan and Meister all are healthy a few games before the tourney (and they don't suffer any other significant injuries), they're capable of making a run in the tournament, although I don't think their recent struggles can be blamed entirely on their injuries.

I think we will pick our poison. I'd choose Mercer and lock up Carr like we did Army's Brown. I'm hoping Coach Mike is reminding this team about his team's 7-0 start and second half collapse. Fran keeps harping on "one at a time". League play is tough and league away wins are tougher. Let's hold serve today.
Go Pards!

You were correct. Early foul trouble forced Betley and Abdullah to the bench forced Brown into some bad defensive matchups and screwed up our entire rotation.
The first couple of away games in the second half will determine HC fate. There issues may be deeper then the injuries.
