Big game for Field Hockey

FH will play 3-0 American at Rappolt Field this Saturday. A win by American guarantees a slot in the PL playoffs and it is a big step to hosting. A win by by Lafayette keeps us in the hunt for home field in the playoffs and favors us in potential tie breakers. Bucknell plays Holy Cross. A Holy Cross win would endanger Lafayette even if we tie at 3-3 due to a tie breaker disadvantage. We could not even make the playoffs if we split the last two league games if we we lose on Saturday.
The Leopards have not seen a goal in two weeks. Time to find the cage!!!
Question: wil Jonckheer be cleared to play!!

This game will test the mettle of this team and the coaching staff.  American is good as usual but the game is at home, and there ought to be a good crowd out at Metzger (and weather looks good).

I really don't think the team was ready to play HC last Saturday.  To say they came out flat is an understatement.  Their play in the first half was lackadaisical and that is being kind.  I continue to wonder if the coach had them up for the game.  This is the time this coach should show that she is a real team motivator.

As in all goal games, you have to shoot to score.  While, I admit to knowing not much about this sport, the team needs to shoot much more when they are in the circle (box?).  Too much futsing around in there and not enough shots.  Also, their corner plays have not been that effective against good teams so it's time for success in the set pieces as well.

Good luck to the team against AU.

For supposedly not knowing much about the sport, you appear to be dead-on on your assessment.

To add on, the top scorers are a midfielder, defender and a person who hasn't played for 5 games. The starting attackers on Saturday had one goal between them all season.
We can not win if we can not score. This team has talent. They showed it against Boston. They will have to dig deep for this one on Saturday. GO PARDS!

We don't get many fast breaks. Need more speed from our forwards.

Agreed, we need to spread out the field and make spaces. The short passing game is for grass. Last year's playoff game against American got us 2 early goals with long passes and fast breaks.
I watched American's game with Michigan State ( who is not all that good). American is beatable if we don't give them their game. They will press early,....it's their style!!

Thank you IP.  Everyone likes a compliment.

1-0 thanks to early magadan goal 5 minutes in according to game tracker. Hopefully we can keep the pressure up.

Hope those at Rappolt field enjoy the game.

2-1 loss to AU with a goal late in the 2nd OT, I believe.  Now they have to win the rest of their League games: Bucknell next week then LU.  A real problem looms if they lose both of them.

Ed, let me begin by saying we had the two best officials I have ever seen do a field hockey game. Normally, the trail official stops at mid field. Today the trail official followed play three quarters down the field. Can't blame them for the outcome.

We led 1-0 at the half. You know American is going to come out strong to start the second half. We came out in defensive mode. AU gets a corner, takes a shot straight on, the goalie anticipates a shot to one of the corners, she flops across the goal only to have the shooter go high and down the middle. We called timeout and came back out more aggressively but didn't score.

It went to 7 on 7, sudden death. No one scored, we had a couple of opportunities but didn't get any good shots off. Second overtime same story, we didn't get many shots off.

Glad to see it was well officiated x.  That the official followed the play down the field is a revelation.  The official probably will be sanctioned by the field hockey czars.

One goal in three games now.  Tough game against JMU tomorrow then 137 next week in Central PA.  I may drive out then stay over and see the game against Harvard on Sun.  If they lose to JMU they will be 7-7 and lose to 137 they will not have a winning record which will make the fall season complete with no LC team with a winning record.  The coach needs to spend this week working on SCORING GOALS.

Kaitlyn Arnold had an amazing game with 8 saves plus junior defender Cody Hunsicker had two saves.  The defense was excellent but American ( as is their practice) attacked constantly and tried to fast break us. We started with a short passing game and American expected that and dominated offensive play. Magadan seemed to be our only threat and she found herself double and triple teamed. Under normal circumstances it was a good effort against a top 20 team. Jonckheer played but the time off over the last three weeks showed. She got off one shot in overtime. This team has not jelled. The talent is there and I would have expected many of our younger players to be a factor. Losing to Holy Cross might turn out to be a disaster since they beat Bucknell yesterday. That makes the Bucknell game a MUST WIN or there is no post season. It actually is that for Bucknell too. Four losses would eliminate them. They have been tough at home.

JMU Dukes

With today's loss to JMU, the team has a record of 7-7.  The only score again was from Amanda Magadan - no scoring AGAIN from the forwards or anyone else.  Amanda is a terrific player who carries this team.

With this record, LC now ONCE AGAIN has no fall sports team with a winning record.  Nuff said.

We don't get many fast breaks. Need more speed from our forwards.

Perhaps its time to try something a little different and take a chance or two. There really is no post season if we don't win on Saturday. So if there is a trick or two or a different approach, now is the moment!!

I would hope there is an intense breakdown of films by the coaches and players. You can bet the Bisons are at it. Crunch time!!

There is a big difference between a runner and a sprinter.
