Bowling Green

The team got blown out again: Down 28-8 at end of Q1.  Out rebounded, too many turnovers and poor shooting.  Will be interesting to see who plays in Springfield on Sunday.  I may attend.
Ransom Stoddard

Obviously, Coach has decided to play the freshman she recruited which has cut the minutes being played by the upper classmen.  Ottewill-Soulsby, Cantwell, Ribarich, and especially Hood and Lutz deserve to be out there based on last year and it's not right that their minutes are getting limited.  Among the freshman, Gumbs shows athleticism and talent but, other than the first game, she's been very uneven in her play.  Santarelli (whose Mom played at Immaculata like Coach) plays a lot and, for the season, is 8-41 (19%) from the field.  In the games I have seen, her shots are all short.  Up to yesterday, she had taken the second most shots on the team.  Ptasinski is first.  I feel there is a lot of pressure on Ptasinski to score.  It's not fair to put so much pressure on her for scoring - she has struggled, but for that one amazing 1st half against Robert Morris.  I think they would be much better served running the offense through the low post with Ribarich.  Against Bowling Green, Ribarich was causing big match up problems, but she hardly played - getting mostly mop up time at the end.  Instead, 26 of our 58 shots were 3-pointers ... and we made 4 of them (15%).

If Coach has said to the team "hey, I am going to play the girls I recruited because I made commitments to them when I recruited them, they are the future and it's the only way they'll develop and be better in the future", I could understand that - I would not like it, but I could understand it.  But I don't think Coach has communicated that and, as a result, I think it's really hurting team morale and chemistry. I think it was very evident in the Bowling Green game.  We should have competed in that game and we didn't.

I feel bad for the team.  I really thought things would improve when Coach took over but I don't see it happening.  But what do I know - I am not a Hall of Fame Coach.

Maybe Coach is giving the Frosh a good look to see if any of them really can play at this level.  Maya Hood, in particular, will likely see a lot more playing time as the PL Season approaches.  The team is always better when she is on the floor.  Lutz is a good rebounder and a solid presence out there.  She should play more based on past performance.

Well the next game is Hampton, currently 1-4, followed by Penn 1-2, St Johns 1-2, Princeton 0-3. Should give us some idea where we stand.

After that we play Duquesne 3-1 (including a 14 point win over Lehigh), Drexel is the last pre-league game, presently 3-1 with a win over Penn State and also plays Bucknell on 12/27.

League play begins 12/30 at Colgate. So we should know by the end of the pre-league season if the tough pre-season schedule was productive.
