Bucknell Game Thread

15 minutes until kickoff. Let's be positive today and expect a Leopard win. We are way overdue...
The Maroon

We spent the whole week bemoaning our fate - we barely touched on the fact that we had a winnable game this weekend!

Just kicked off...LET'S GO!!
bethlehempard

Pathetic home crowd.
NE Leopard

Both teams first possessions are three and outs. Laf with a decent punt return.
bethlehempard

Drew had time. 13 yards. Rushing yards net zero.
Credit where it's due: the OL is giving Drew time.
Bucknell's D is pathetic.
The Maroon

We're just a hell of a lot better when we aren't trying to run.
NE Leopard

Passing game looks good so far. 1st and goal at the 10
bethlehempard

3-0. Good start.
As for running "you got to give it up"
NE Leopard

FG good, 3-0. Good drive that stalled.
NE Leopard

Defense holds, 3 and out. 1st and 10 at their 35.
bethlehempard

CountIng people standing at the gate and the band Bucknell has -- very generously estimated -- 500 people here.
bethlehempard

We can't run. Bucknell can't do anything so far
The Maroon

I'm not sure Bucknell needs to pass - but let's not tell them.
bethlehempard

They can't catch. As we just saw. A gift
The Maroon

They have ZERO first downs. We all know that can't last. We need 7
bethlehempard

Mrazek false start. Could kill a drive. No we can't run.
edge29

That punt return is a TD if YT or Amil is back there.
bethlehempard

Never bet on two bad teams.
BU 1-10 at LC 17. Years
Fooled on a pitch. 7-3.
NE Leopard

7-3 Bucknell, short field, 3 plays...
The Maroon

We have to respond....Huge drive coming up
bethlehempard

Sacked again. Bucknell seems to have figured out we can't run.
3rd and 25. Bring on FredEx.
The Maroon

The Maroon wrote:

So far our response has been 2 plays and -18 yards...ouch.
65Pard

Frank wants to win a 2016 game with a 1970 playbook...
Swing  pass wont work without speedy receiver like Ross who can make defender miss....again running on first down...He is stubborn at best or just plain stupid.
NE Leopard

Horrible series...now we have to punt into the wind.
Franks Tanks

Can't block.  Can't cover.  Just ugly.

Bucknell is much better fundamentally and much better coached.
edge29

The offense is not even at the level of pedestrian.
LeopardBall10

Anyone else see Conner at the end of that last series? Looked to me like he was yelling at Frank?
NE Leopard

He should be pissed, crappy game plan and no,execution.
Franks Tanks

edge29 wrote:

Susan is a quality coach and has us schemed up, which is pretty easy.  Just blitz our QB as the line can't pick it up.  We can't run at all so very little consequences for blitzing.
bethlehempard

Bucknell Looks bad. We are in this.
I didn't  see the roughing was looking at the drop.
14-3. Their drops kept it close for awhile.
The Maroon

What the hell happened? I thought they went incomplete on a 4th down? Now it's 14-3?
Bogus Megapardus

65Pard

2nd and 19 and we try a run.....Surprise, it doesn't work...
I'm about ready to go watch some real football
bethlehempard

Roughing the passer. Changed the game. We have had two third and 25s
I will give up at halftime and drink. Bull Run Tavern again
FT doesn't seem real involved.
65Pard

If I didn't know better, I would think Frank is trying to punish the players with the play calling
edge29

bethlehempard wrote:

SixtyEighter

Another penaltynullifying a change of possession. A comedy of errors even Mike Joseph admitted - A clean Sweep is all that can cure this pathetic team.

Don't worry everyone Frank is evaluating.

It's looks like we don't practice during the week.

Frank doesn't call the plays . . . he just makes them worse by being there.
PessimisticPard

Can we just throw it to Wadsworth and #17 everytime, it is literally your best option.

The RB's by committee now are running into brick walls.

Good Grief!
bethlehempard

Odd TO there by us. Handed BU time and a penalty
Andy

Totally inept offensive line. Just brutal.  Beyond that it''s an overall circus, a poorly coached mess.
edge29

On a good note...I like Dunn. Give him the ball down hill!! Enough of these sideways running plays!!

Football 101:

Lesson #1 - A RB has a much better chance to gain yards when his shoulders are square to the LOS!
SixtyEighter

Mercifully the season is over in 3 1/2 games. 90% of the mess on the field is attributable to mental errors which boils down to poor coaching. The players are not in the game mentally at all.

I like Dunn too.  He has little to work with as far as holes go,but has good quickness and runs hard.  He can be very effective with proper scheme.
Franks Tanks

Lehigh up on Cross 39-7.

We may lose to Lehigh by 50, and if we do will that finally be enough to do what is necessary?
Andy

Has CJ been in this game at all?  I guess they're blaming him and Desean for running game failure as we go to 3Rd and 4th stringers.OL remains the same. No one else available apparently.  Brown is a good RB, he needs some blocking.

Frank asleep at the switch again not killing clock to punt with the wind.
Leopard Loyalist

This is literally unwatchable. Sadly I find myself hoping Bucknell can run up the score even more. I'm not sure even that will have any impact.
Franks Tanks

Before play Mike Joseph says they will run toss or reverse out of bunch formation.  They run the reverse and we look completely surprised.  Our play by play guy has Bucknell scouted better than our staff.  Mike says he had no idea what we are doing on D schematically.  Wish Mike wound be more critical and say what we really thinks.
NE Leopard

This is getting ugly now...down 21-3. Big offensive drive coming up.
NE Leopard

That was sweet, 65 yard play to Joey. Now 21-10
Jpao92

[quote="Franks Tanks:57084"]Lehigh up on Cross 39-7.

No, it won't.  Allison will attend because she has to, all the while checking her watch and not giving a goddamn.   They got what they needed from football.  They had their big 150 Yankee Stadium party which they were all too happy to use to launch their latest fund drive.  Give us that moola alums and then please shut the eff! up and accept crap we feed you.

They simply DO NOT CARE.  Ladies and gents, Frank Tavani, coach for life.

NE Leopard

Run game spark, Mike Dunn, 20 yard TD carry, now 21-17
Franks Tanks

Blitzing and showing some different looks on D was effective.  Better than standing around in base D and getting pushed around.

Went back to getting pushed around.  Those WR screens are killing us.  Mike Joseph notes poor technique and positioning.
Bogus Megapardus

Why Wait, Frank? Come in and hand in your resignation after the game today. We're open late on Saturdays. You'll feel much better.
edge29

Reed's near picks and throwing into the wind does not bode well for us. Keep running Dunn.

Edit: Dammit!
NE Leopard

Great pass to the defense
NE Leopard

It is really over now...not a chance we pull this out.

It does look like we've finally found a RB
Franks Tanks

Georgetown is hanging with Fordham 14-14 in the 3rd.  Wouldn't be shocked if Georgetown blows us out next week.

Don't worry evaluation is being done.

Bogus Megapardus

Faked out by a fake punt were you there, Frank? Well, doesn't that one just take the MF cake.

Please quit today and go away where we might never see you again.
Franks Tanks

Bucknell offense is poor..averaging 17 points per game.  They are about to score 42 on us, by far the most of the year.  Don't let Art Link on the bus back to Easton.

But if Frank went away, who would we watch aimlessly pace the sidelines muttering to himself like a homeless person?

Good one.  Also who will evaluate the running game?  I mean without Frank we would be averaging 1.9 yards per carry instead of 2.1.
Bogus Megapardus

Hell, why not set up you best receiver to get killed in garbage time, Frank?  Way to effing go, Frank!  You da man!

We have decades of replays. Not to worry.

I'll dress up in a Frank costume and do itt myself, it it comes to that.

Frank always says it's his responsibility if things go wrong.

100% Possible

200 points given up in the last 4 games

162 in the last three

Well this alum hereby refuses to donate another dime.  I choose not to waste money on a loser.   And by loser I am not refering to the kids.  I am refering to an institution that is unable to grab the low hanging fruit that is the benefit provided by a sucessful athletic program.  Especially one that enjoys such strong alumni support.
bethlehempard

A normal person of mature years, financially secure and with career accomplishments, would retire with some shred of dignity.
A normal institution would make that happen if it weren't done voluntarily.
WTF.
Two years without a home or league win looms.
And I thought the first half was bad. I left.
I just got home. Half Two is going on via DVR shortly.
I do think the O and D did come out with a lot of spirit.
It just didn't last.
The Maroon

Bucknell managed to put a whopping 2,160 in the stands for this game.

Just thought this should be pointed out because apparently our kids were disappointed in the attendance at our games...
bethlehempard

That number was probably multiplied by 2.5 to 3 as far as real people at the game and not on the field.
There were maybe 500 Bucknell fans there.

That is profound!!!

Perhaps other teams approach us with the thought, "We need to be ready for something new. There is no way they will throw the same hackneyed failed schemes at us."
Yet we do and exploit their naďveté. Briefly. Then they realize everything said in this board is true and they crush us.

Not that it matters much, but it was clearly over 1500.  I think you mad your count right at game time before a lot of people emerged from the warmth of the tents.
bethlehempard

Could be. I did this midway through quarter one. I'm pretty adept at this and at that time 500 was a stretch on the home side. That included a generous 100 around the concessions near the home gate and the band.
If somebody isn't there in the first quarter well ... of course I was gone at halftime but I had a good excuse. We are horrid. Bucknell isn't that good. We are terrible.
My wife likes Lewisburg the art store on Fourth Street in particular. The Bull Run serves excellent food. I was a little surprised. Plus the flights of local beers were great.
Im checking on the DVR and even right before the FG there is no way there are 1,500 people on the BU side. Maybe 500.

Agree this is a test of leadership for Byerly.

As much of a change is needed now, she was probably right not to make a change in football in her first years. She became President in 2013. Football won the PL championship. Next season, 150th @ Yankees Stadium. Next season 1-10. [This was the first opportunity for change]. Now on track for another 1-10. [Now change is mandatory]

I mark the first opportunity because I don't think its realistic to fire the football coach after a championship or leading the team through the 150th.

Now if you mean the broader athletic department - don't get me started!

Bpard: you are correct re: Byerly.  She will not be able to ignore three more football losses including a likely beatdown by LU.  And she will not be able to ignore the other fall teams: with today's extremely lackadaisical performance by the field hockey team (they lost 3-0, another shutout), even that team has a losing record.  She will be getting an earful, as will the new Maroon Club dude bec. he needs to understand what he has gotten himself into.

BTW, I talked to Bruce at halftime.  Hes asked me how I was doing and I said "I am p____d off at the losing; the entire athletic program."  To his credit, he said "I have to live with it every day."  An interesting comment by our AD.
