Bucknell

Tonight, March 16, at Fisher, 7:00 PM.  It's on All-Access, supposedly. 9nad Gametracker).  Pards got close at Navy, but those terrible outings vs Marist and Manhattan really are stuck in my craw.  This game will tell us if we're wasting out time altogether.  I certainly hope not.
Bogus Megapardus

Pards down 7-3 at the half.  Rau good on faceoffs but we can't control the ball.  Too many turnovers.  Bison more physical - Rogalski needs to play a DI game, not a DII game.
Bogus Megapardus

7-5 Bucknell after 3.  Pards are a second half team, as they have been all season.
Bogus Megapardus

Bucknell wins, 13-6.

This looks like another 3-4 win team.

Is the team showing any improvement over last year?

Meanwhile freakin Lehigh is a budding lax powerhouse.  I was watching the Hopkins/Cuse game earlier and Quint Kessnich gushed about Lehigh for several minutes (probably to divert attention from the fact that the Cuse was taking it to Hopkins).  He predicted that Lehigh will sweep through the PL undefeated and gain a high seed for the NCAA tournament. We could and should be in the same position, but again this is Lafayette athletics.

I doubt LU will go undefeated vs PL teams.   They may be slightly better than the next two, but the gap is so small that it will be hard for anyone to run the table.   As for LU getting a high seed, that won't be easy after their two bad losses in Colorado followed by a home loss to Penn.   Their RPI is currently #27 and they don't have any real good ooc games left.    I don't think Quint has been paying attention.

I think this team is showing some signs of improvement over last year.  One specific area is on face-offs.  Last year, the Pards won 43.5% of their draws whereas the current team has won 53%.  It looks like the current coaching staff has been emphasizing better wing play and better communication between the face-off guy and the wings.  Rather than the FOGO just trying to win a wresting match like in past years, there are lot more plays to the wings or goosing the ball to a teammate.  The attack has become even more explosive than last year with the emergence of freshman Kevin Wanke.  Jake Hyatt has been terrific in goal and the D has been solid.  The midfield unit has probably been the least impressive so far.  You'd like to see more goals coming from this group but we especially need some quality dodging to draw the slides.  There have been some injuries which have exposed some depth issues.

Even in their losses, the team has hung around in every game and pulled off one of the big upsets of the early season against Georgetown.  This coming match-up against Army should be telling as the Knights are not having a great season and the Pards could be poised for an upset.  Then they really need a convincing win against first-year program High Point and I hope they can defeat an improved Holy Cross squad.  Probably no chance against Lehigh this year so maybe a 4-5 win season.

I think 3-4 wins is to be expected.  Attitude is the most important thing to develop this year, and the rookies.  We need them to pay dividends in 2-3 years.

Dont think we will see huge strides this year.   Middie play must pick up in order for us to get to another level.  Will see if frosh continue to improve and what next class adds to the mix.  D has improved but clearing the ball remains a problem - and we are still not physical enough.

Fairly young team overall - and one that needs to learn to win.  I think they are moving in the right direction, but its been slower than I'd hoped.  Its a catch up game that, with the addition of teams to league next year, is not going to get easier.

With their loss yesterday to UMass, Lehigh is officially done as far as getting a high seed.   They are also virtually done as far as getting an at-large bid.

Yup,team wildly inconsistent game to game. UnforcedTOs, sloppy middie play. Not a national contender so far.

Edit: at all.
Bogus Megapardus

We're up at West Point tomorrow.  There's a lot of promise in this squad, but I think we need to see something concrete.  Something that shows that we have both the talent and the scheme (eventually) to take on the upper echelon of Division I lacrosse.

We're a lot more assertive than we were under Coach Mangan but we're making a lot more turnovers.  Faceoffs and clears are drastically improved.  The defense - especially the middies both at the point and on the wing - needs mush better cohesion.

We're still OK on offense, as we have been over the last couple of seasons.  We don't have the sharpshooters that we've had the last few years, but they're developing.

This squad is going to take some time.  It's not going to happen overnight.  We're now in the thick of league play in one of the toughest NCAA conferences, and its only going to get tougher.  If we can pull off two league wins going forward this season, I'll be very pleased.

Quint has apparently jumped off the Lehigh bandwagon big-time.   His rankings this week have Lehigh at #23.

Lehigh really misses the Lao-Gosney (sp?) brothers, IMHO.  Those two were really impressive.
