15.5.9 Multi-Sport Participants.

15.5.9.2 Basketball. A counter who practices or competes in basketball and one or more other sports (other
than football) shall be counted in basketball.

15.5.9.7 Other Sports. Except as otherwise provided in this section, a counter who participates in two or
more sports shall be counted in one of the sports but shall not be counted in the others.//////

So, would he "count" against the basketball total?

Fran is allowed 12 per Lafayette rule but I believe can go to 13 per NCAA. Since basketball is a counter sport he would count. Why you would give a scholarship to someone that is not going to spend  full time in his chosen sport make no sense. Unless this kid is areal superstar...and I don't think so.
He is 6' and 160 pounds. Coach Bohn obviously likes this kid so maybe he
recieved a partial in soccer and would come if he could play basketball. How that works for him and the team is problamatic.

Either this kid is an undiscovered gem with misplaced priorities, or none of this makes much sense from a basketball standpoint.  I'm betting it's not the former, and am withholding any judgment on the latter until we get better information.

Bucknell also was recruiting him but, having no scholarships except in basketball, wasn't in a very good position.     If he plays basketball, he will be a counter but, as pointed out above, it doesn't really matter since a hoops team is allowed 13 counters anyway.

He is supposed to be a good soccer player.     Might help basketball at some point as a reserve, but it will be more difficult missing the first few weeks of practice each year.

So, Fran gave up a "counter" position, but not one of his 12 scholarships, to help the soccer program.  Does that about sum it up?

I'm not sure FOH deliberately went out of his way to help the soccer program, since he gave up a counter spot that he probably can't use anyway.     If he didn't think Fraser-Pauls might be useful and if he had some other possibility of using a 13th counter spot, then I doubt he would have done it.    Based on various reports, I doubt he'll ever be a basketball starter but he might contribute more than other walk-on athletes.

BTW, the one way FOH might use a 13th spot, without giving an athletic scholarship, is if he recruited a player using need-based aid only.    If the player is "recruited", as per the NCAA definition, then even need-based aid normally makes him a counter.

Says he's a Jr. so won't be on campus for another year, Class of 2015.

Shoots the 3 so that might explain some of this.  We all know that Fran loves the 3.
