Chris Brockman commits to Pards

per scouting Penn.com

Valley Forge MA  in the typical Loose mold - 6-0 210 4.54

could be the 2nd of two rumored top-notch LB verbals

Enter the curmudgeon:

What makes this guy "top-notch?"
Andy

c2, can answer that in a couple ways.  If we hadnt seen his video i would answer that there was a rumor of 2 early LB verbals, both of whom the staff liked a lot. This being the second LB commit I've seen, his reputation preceeds him.

Secondly, (given that I'm not a coach nor have a trained eye) when I look at his play he seems very "comfortable" at the position, reads the play, gets off blocks, makes good decisions on path to the ball, seems  quick and physical.  If he's a post grad, I like him better.  Being that I'm from exit 165 and he's from Texas,  I'm intriqued.    Lack of size not really a problem in Loose's 4-3 where DL are supposed to tie up OL and keep the LBs free to make plays.   That's my 2cents, hope there's some agreement.

1.  Not a big believer in the made for recruiting video, but I will admit that we got a lot more than the usual 3 or 4 plays here.

2.  Your second paragraph is reasoned and reasonable.

3.  You daMan.

"I have posted a link to my post grad highlights from this 2011 season under Schedules/Press. I am going to Valley Forge Military Academy in Wayne, PA for a post graduate year. Last year I graduated form Foster High School in Richmond, TX where I was team captain, maxpreps airforce player of the week, made the all area football team, and 2nd team all-district my senior season. You will not regret letting me be a part of your program."

I'm with carney in treating every recruit from now on with a critical eye.  Most importantly what's his attitude?
Franks Tanks

His scouting PA profile says he also had an offer from LA Tech.  I would think this young man really loves football.  He came from Texas to Valley Forge MA to play a prep year and get recruited. He is a bit small, but very agressive and explosive.
seenalot

..."a bit small, but very agressive and explosive" - the later two are characteristics we could use a lot of.  Maybe hes an Andy Romans, maybe another name that will pass in the night - lets see what we think in about 20 months.

Yes, many of our best LB's in recent years have fit that mold.  Romans, Legerrio, and even Blake and Bennett.  He has the tools, we shall see if he continues to develop into a player for us.
Andy

Per scoutingpa, 3 days after his verbal commitment to us was published, Colgate offers Brockman.  Trying to pull another Eachus, I guess.
The Maroon

I'm lost.

This guy "graduated" from high school and is doing a post-grad year at Valley Forge - except he's listed on the prep roster at VFMA rather than the college one.

When I first saw where this guy came from and saw he was prepping I thought he was playing for their juco team and I was very excited. Now - if I'm getting it right - he's playing an extra year of high school football against solid - but unspectacular - competition.

Although some places make it look like he's on the VF college team.

I could tell more from the video if I knew which Valley Forge team he was playing for.

He's doing a prep school post grad year as dozens of kids do every year for that extra year of physical maturity,  college and test prep, in order to qualify for a higher level of academics and/or athletic competition while not using up a year of eligibility.  This players prep school apparently also has a 2 year college program.  So what, irrelevant, not where we'd want him to be.

As far as Colgate's actions, I could see a competing school which has already been involved with a kid asking him to make his previously arranged official visit after having committed to another school.  But to make your initial offer after a kid has verbally committed elsewhere seems sleazy for the Patriot League, but perhaps I'm naive.
RichH

Not naive at all , But it does happen a good bit Gate and Cross do it on a pretty regular basis. They wait to see how much $$$ LC offered and try to top it ,if possible. We lost an Olineman to Cross a few years back who had committed to LU but Cross upped the $$$ and he switched.
Andy

Wow, rich. Again, topping an offer is one thing, initiating recruitment after a player has committed elsewhere seems sleazy. Biddle built his record by having year in, year out the highest budget in the league (edged at times only by FU), but that's not enough? He has to operate like that?!  How do these guys shake hands after games?

True, with our Cross situation they were also actively recruiting him all along
We've lost a couple of others to Gate over the last 3-4 years but honestly cant recall whether it was same situation as you have now with brockman

I haven't been watching all that closely, and certainly don't have much, if anything, to observe when other Patriot League teams play Colgate, but my impression is that Biddle is one of the least liked coaches in the League.  I realize that he is working with something of a disadvantage up there on the tundra, but, if true, this modus operandi is pure slime.
RichH

Perhaps so, but remember there is nothing illegal about the situation. Over the years we all have lost kids ,who signed on ,to the IL in April. Nothing binding either recruit or school for IL and PL football. If scholarships atart next year, I asume we will then participate in LOI process ending recruit raiding occuring now

I will poke around and see if this is in fact "true".

True enough, rich.  I guess I had hoped that the lack of an LOI process might have the PL coaches honoring each others verbal commitments moreso than scholarship conferences.  Letting competing coaches do the work in finding players, selling the league and ultimately securing their commitments  and then swooping in to cherry pick their commit lists with higher offers has an odor about it.

That used to be so but no longer.  Mad  My one caveat, w/o any support in this case ,is that Biddle altho, not liked among PL coaches, has been pretty much of a straight arrow.
