As Andy brought to my attention in the previous thread, Kristin Hughes is leaving Colgate to pursue other opportunities. This is obviously as much of a resignation as John Leone's was.
Pretty tough crew to work for in Hamilton eh? They beat our up-and-coming program twice! They won a tournament game against the league champs! Their best player missed a few games. Like us they are only losing one senior--albeit a less productive one than Stetler.
Yet, the decision's a no-brainer. Colgate UNDERACHIEVED. In Polinski they have one of the league's most dangerous players: A 6'1 guard with a solid 3 point shot, a great rebounder, a matchup nightmare. Shevorne Martin's a true PG, a great passer and a great defensive player. Their post players were solid. This was by NO MEANS a 6-23 team.
Which of course sucks for us--because if they get a coach that can make them achieve at the level they could they are gonna wipe the floor with us.
Here's where the powers-that-be from Colgate and Lafayette seem to divide in philosophy. We win against Bucknell and all is OK because we're building..or something. They seem to be a little bit more "big picture oriented" in upstate NY.
but the main point (again I give Andy the credit) is:
At 27-63, Hughes would have had to lose her next 72 games to drop to the winning percentage where Tammy sits now.
I keep harping on this because I want SOMEONE SOMEWHERE (parent, friend of Tammy's, ANYONE) to make a case for keeping her around.
And I won't change my mind no matter what the hell happens next year--because two years from now we'll be back to square one. Remember the vision and plan that the SID was telling us about when Tammy was 6 and 48? How's that comign along?
What are you seeing Bruce?

I don't know anything about Tammy Smith's coaching ability, but I do think this comparison is very much apples to oranges.
When Hughes took over at Colgate, CU was coming off of a 21-10 season, 10-4 in the PL, a PL tournament championship, and an NCAA appearance. That should have given them some recruiting momentum. When Smith took over at LC, they were coming off of a 7-20 season, a 3-11 record, and a first round exit from the PL championship. So it's hard to say they were starting on a level playing field.
Again, not to defend Smith, but it's hard to say she has done a worse job than Hughes did at Colgate, and many might say she has done a better job.

THAT'S WHY I POST---BECAUSE PEOPLE LIKE YOU CAN GIVE ME THE RIGHT PERSPECTIVE!
Honestly--thanks--that's an excellent point. It's the best argument I've heard so far!
