Hey I'm the first one to say sometimes good teams have to dodge bullets. It hardly makes Colgate bad. Who knows why Princeton was able to make the high-flying Red Raiders look pedestrian last night. I didn't watch the game but I tried to follow along with the chatter online. It sounds as though both teams fielded stout defensive efforts last night and in the end Colgate's more experienced offense was able to just barely put up enough points to win.
I'm encouraged because we know we have one of the best defenses in the PL and the Ivy and we're pretty sure our offensive attack can come pretty close to matching Colgate (certainly if last night was any indicator). I guess what I'm saying is I think Colgate is far from invincible.
Now I'd like to see some indication of the same for Holy Cross and I'll really be happy!

Fair assessment. Colgate is Colgate. They are a very good well coached team that runs the ball and plays solid D. They had an off night, but this is still a very good PL football team.
I believe we are as talented as Colgate, but we never beat them and they are the defending champs and undefeated. We can beat them, but we will have to play well and put some points on the board.
The Princeton D slowed Eachus and Sullivan down like no other D (besides Nova). Whatever they were doing was working great-- I am sure Loose will study that film and we have the players to potentially play the same way against them.

Tigers spied Sullivan very effectively. DEs disrupted Gate OL ltd inside runs and keyed on Eachus. He still got his yards.Lord he is good. W/o consistent run, burden fell on qb. He is a thrower not a passer. Some good throwsbut lots of ducks and lobs. Tends tothrow a bit late. Tiger dbs had time to close on Gate wrs and break up passes. Gate front 7 quite good.
dbs not so much.
Both seem to run same O, could switch uniforms and they would not look much different.cept for Symonds and Eachus

In the end I believe Eachus was the difference. The guy is amazingly strong and truely got yards on his own. The stats alone do not tell the whole story. The other aspect of their game was the running of their quarterback who runs like a running back. There were no flops, he put his head down and tried to run over people, and at times he did.
You must keep their offense off the field because they can monopolize the clock.
One aspect of the game that was interesting was when Biddle had a chance for a field goal late in the game he didn't take it. The announcers said their kicker was hurt but he looked fine on the extra points. The kicking game may be key in our game with them!!

I believe the kid kicking the extra points was their backup kicker and the starting kicker was out.

Our coaches can only conclude from game films that Colgate can be vulnerable to the passing game....ours being far superior to Princeton will give us what the Tigers lacked last night to salt the game away....Three trips to the red zone in first half with no points....
Looked like slashing scatback running style worked better than the straight ahead stuff against Raiders but at crunch time they stopped all runs.
With our talent, if our coaching staff can put together a game plan as good as the Princeton staff did, we stand a good chance to beat 'Gate. We need to pressure the QB or he will find that excellent 6'6" receiver too many times.
Reverse the Curse!

I believe at least 3 holding calls on Gate O-line, could have been more. Hope for a crew inclined to look at that stuff.
Another helmet-to-helmet hit from CU took out the very effective P RB.
Sully looks at one receiver and one receiver only.
If we give Simonds our usual 10-15 yd cushion, and if Sully is given time, they will kill you with the out pattern coming back to the ball.
I was impressed w/ overall athleticism of CU D, perhaps questioning only pure speed of LBs. Also impressive tackling of their DBs, never allowing P WRs that final breakaway after catch.
Fantastic ball fakes from Sully as usual and good backup RB kept Eachu$ fresh.
P owned the first quarter but came up empty after two nice drives.

Well with that effort by Gate I would be fired up if I were a Pard fan. That was some ugly game. If we play like that vs you and HC, forget it. A W is nice, but come on..

Princeton is a crap team and Colgate almost came up short. Fordham is on a 15 game run of mediocrity and gave Colgate all they could handle. The Raiders have played a very soft schedule and have not impressed. Undefeated or not, they have not shown all that much. I'm beginning to think that the Patriot League championship express is running thru Woo and Easton this year.

Colgate should be a revenge game for some, i.e. CURLY. they were winning that game before he took the now famous helmet 2 helmet hit which not only took him out of the game, but realistically took him out for the the season. It gave Frank what he was looking for to replace Curly with Quilling, and the rest of the story (QB controvesry) is history, as 'they' say.
LC should not be looking past the teams we'll be playing against in the next few weeks leading up to this game. However, I'm betting on someone's calendar, this game is circled ... as it was the start of the leopards downward spiral last season. It's the 3rd of 5 PL games, we should have a good feel where we stand by then too.. It's also the last home game...
bring on Columbia......... GO PARDS

I think it is safe to assume certainly no one is looking past any games on our schedule. There are no more cupcakes on the calendar. Even Bucknell will be critically important as I suspect there will be no margin for error if we wish to realistically have a shot of winning the league. As for the remainder of the OOC games, we all know Columbia should be a tough, hard fought slog. Harvard remains a favorite in the Ivy and a win against them would certainly go a long way to securing a national ranking for the Leopards.
Despite the fact that I am as optimisitc as I have been in years about a Leopards team, I live in dread of one of those classic head scratching, "what the hell just happened" types of games Lafayette has been known to turn in from time to time. I pray that doesn't happen tonight. I feel like we absolutely have to beat Columbia if we want to continue considering ourselves realisitc contenders. I know the game has no bearing on the league but a loss tonight would be devastating.
