Cornwall forward Alex Orchowski figured Division I Lafayette College had given up on him as a prospect.
As it turns out, he was wrong.
Orchowski will play at Lafayette next year — after the Patriot League school signed him at the last minute.
"It's a Division I opportunity, I'll take it," said Orchowski, a Sunday Record first-team all-star this season. "It was a last-minute thing, but I have nothing to lose. This is a great opportunity."
Orchowski, who averaged 13.8 points on 63 percent shooting for Cornwall this season, isn't receiving any athletic scholarship money. Lafayette coach Fran O'Hanlon has guaranteed him a spot on the roster as a walk-on.
Orchowski gave up on Lafayette, located in Easton, Pa., because he thought the Leopards had no interest in him. Lafayette saw him play in a showcase outside Chicago last summer. But Orchowski never heard from Lafayette.
At least, until March, after Cornwall's season ended. Orchowski, who transferred to Cornwall for his senior year from Cary Grove (Ill.) High School after his father, Wayne, received a job transfer, recently signed a national letter of intent. He had also been looking at Division III schools Tufts and NYU.
"Alex is a little raw, but we're excited to have him," O'Hanlon said. "I think if he continues to develop he has a chance. He's a little undersized, but he makes up for it with his athleticism. Alex works hard and I think he can compete at this level."

"Undersized" and "a little raw." Oh God!

Apparently 6' 5" and was playing center. He can not play center with us.

He's a freebie for the basketball program. Looks like he played against decent competition. I'll say, "Welcome aboard, Alex"

Lets not forget 2 years ago he wouldn't have been a freebie--he would have been one of our regular recruits!
