Cuts to the athletic budget

As in every other department the athletic budget is being asked to make cuts for next year. Has anyone heard where those cuts are coming from and are we cutting meat as well as fat?? The athletic budget was one of the smallest in the PL already.

Not surprised esp. if we are going to have a big budget deficit.  The average fan probably won't see the budget cuts at the games.

Might not be a bad idea to schedule Rutgers in football; Duke in men's BB and Tennesee in W-BB in the future to make up the difference.

My obseration from Fridays basketball game. There were two "Event Staff" people sitting at a table in the lobby - doing nothing. There were three "Event Staff" people at each entrance - collecting tickets from the overflow crowd. There were three more "Event Staff" people - sitting at the far end of the court (at least they were watching the game).  There was one police officer strolling around. There was also a guy at the scorers table who apparently does nothing but play play music during the 30 second timeouts. I suspect this group is only getting paid $30-$40 a game but in the aggregate over a season for both teams, it probably adds up to a significant amount

If they make any cuts in the game day operation, it will be more evident during the football season.  It apparently costs quite a chunk of money for a home football game.  I know some of the costs have been reduced with the turf field but there are a lot of people working behind the scenes to get Fisher ready for a game.

I am told that we need about 8,000 fans to break even on a football game.
I have never seen the calculations and the person who told me had an axe to grind at the time.
Football games tend to be linked to alumni or parent events which is what makes them valuable.
