Unbelievable, president for 2 years, they must be so pleased.

Does the Met give DI scholarships?  Do they have football?  Fraternities? Rolling Eyes

Good for him.  Like most other people on this forum, I was happy to see him go from Lafayette.  Running an art museum seems like a better fit, and he's gotten himself one hell of an art museum in the Met.

Enjoy it while it lasts, Dan.

Does this mean that all LC alumni will be barraged with solicitations from the Met???

I also suspect his first move will be to appoint one of his chronies the new SVP and Curator of Medieval Art.   His next move will be to dedicate an entire wing to Medieval Art and name it after himself.

I think it's great; more material for us to zing him.  Maybe Bogie can start hiding Waldo in the exhibits at the Met; free pass to first to find him.

Didn't former Lafayette President David Ellis (1978-1990) do something similar?  We seem to get a lot of these museum curator types as president.  A problem in the BoT?

Boston Museum of Science.

So now that's two former presidents who have decided that standing there watching stuff grow old in a large marble hall with haughty social mavens is a more appealing way to spend one's time than presiding over a nationally-prominent liberal arts institution.

Maybe Dan prefers "stuff" rather than people.  Making sure that Winslow Homer piece hangs plumb will impact thousands of young lives for generations to come, you know.

The Metropolitan Museum is among the world's Top 10 institutions IMHO. Weiss has reached the top. The museum has a huge impact on students from around the world.
Please get rid of the Damien Hirst trash. The dead shark if it's still there.
Colgate's Langdon left for the Natural History Museum. That didn't work out well.
*Disclosure: I'm a member. It's one of my favorite stops in the city. I would like it to adopt the Frick's no-kids-under-10 policy.
Well done Weiss!

Maybe the headhunter these schools are using should be dropped. Dan Weiss had to be that headhunters cash cow. She gets a fee for signing Weiss to Lafayette at nearly triple the comp of the previous president, a fee from Haverford for signing Weis for less than a 2 year stint, and a fee for signing Byerly. Do you think she was in on the Met offer?? She was in on searches for senior officers at Lafayette when the others left.

Yes the Met is a prestigious position, probably one of the most in the academia and museum world.  It's like being president of Harvard in the museum world.

Far from managing stuff... he has to manage the staff and do fundraising.  The curators I imagine handle the display.  Must admit I love the place too.  Can't fault him at all for jumping at this... the previous person came from the inside and was there for 10 years.  It's clearly once in a lifetime chance.

I mean, Haverford for a few more years and then Williams or another school... or the Met? Hmm...

True, consultants are an odd lot but Byerly seems to be a good choice so far.  She was at the game last night, half court in Section 12 or 11 I think.
