Fairfield

Season and home opener.  Pards smacked them around last season in CT, as an indication of things to come.  Teams supposedly about equal on paper.  Defense and goalie will decide for the Pards.  Do they have enough?

Which games are at Fisher this season?

Right now the schedule is showing Bucknell (3/11), Holy Cross (4/9), and Colgate (4/16).  Up until recently, it also indicated that the Marist game on 4/5 would be at Fisher but it looks like that got changed.

Both the Marist and Lafayette web sites now are showing the game @ Lafayette on 04/04/2011, but goleopards.com no longer is listing the game as being played at Fisher.  It was listed at Fisher a couple of weeks ago.  It will now be at Rappolt, I supose.

Now, if our AD just could go out and corral home game against Hopkins or Penn State or Maryland or Notre Dame, I'm sure it would be played at Fisher.  Our Pards were considered an elite NCAA Division I team last season, so how 'bout it, folks?  Wouldn't Lafayette vs. Virginia or UNC in lacrosse outdraw a football game against Marist or Wagner?  I'm pretty sure it would.

Fairfield received a nice new renovation of their men's and women's lacrosse facilities this season, including custom wood lockers for each member of the roster in both locker rooms.

Good for them, and for the renewed emphasis of the sport of lacrosse!  The Fairfield roster includes kids from Chaminade, Delbarton, Germantown Academy, St. Anthony's, Chatham (NJ), and Summit (NJ) - places we should be recruiting in full force.

Like Hofstra, Fairfield dropped its football program so lacrosse now is the premiere outdoor men's sport of record on campus.

Fairfield will face Villanova, Ohio State, Notre Dame and Maryland this season. We won't. How sad is that?

Looks like the Pards will be starting a freshman (Andrusko) in goal against Fairfield.  He's supposed to be very good and playing well.  Best of luck to him!

Ridiculously, they've scheduled the lax game at the same time as women bball vs rival.   Would it be that difficult to stagger the start times?

I hope the kid can handle the jump to DI speed and looks.  Trial by fire here.

Joining the two veterans up front will be a new face in freshman Mike Galione. Galione will take over the spot vacated by the graduation of Matt Mersky '10.

I'm pleased to see this.  Galione has been lights-out in pre-season and fallball, I understand.

Plus it means no all-access stream for lacrosse because they'll be doing the basketball game.  With the number of sports the college plays it's hard to avoid conflicts, though.

I hope the women's game vs. Lehigh draws a nice crowd, but I'll be at the lacrosse game.

Nice, long article from examiner.com on the team.  I must have missed this one:

http://www.examiner.com/sports-in...sse-same-agenda-different-outcome

It indicates that freshman goalie Jake Hyatt will by out until at least March.  A quote from Mangan also confirms the necessity for the D really to step up its game.  I'm concerned if we're going with the three that were in there most of the time last season.

It appears that the author, Regis D'Angelo, does quite a bit of positive writing about Lafayette.

Pards defeated in the home opener by Fairfield, 8-4.  I was unable, regrettably, to make it to the game (as I thought I would) due to a conflicting obligation.

What on earth happened here?  No offensive output, it seems, although the Pards looked like they had plenty of opportunities.  Was it the wind?  Plus, just five saves by the freshman in goal vs eleven by Fairfield.  This is a stark difference from last season's opener in CT.

Perhaps a good wake up call to forget last season - no one cares anymore.  Did not see either so I dont know if our clears out of the defensive end improved or contributed to the issue.  Not a good way to start.

Wasn't at the game either but heard that the offense was unusually tentative - very little meaningful dodging or cutting.  Hard to believe Lafayette had no goals in the first half and only four for the entire game.  Hope this was just first game jitters.  The box score stats don't give an indication of what really happened as the Pards looked to have the advantage in most categories.  As noted earlier, the goalie looks like he had a rough game but he'll perform better over time.
