Both men's and women's soccer open the fall schedule with games at Rider and in Easton with LaSalle respectively. The men's team has been hit with injuries to key players so we will see if this team hass any depth. We should watch closely to see if we have any strength at goal and defense to keep usin the game. Scoring should be improved when BJ returns and if Scharfenberg, our highly touted freshman can stay healthy.
The women are a question mark, this is still a very young team that may well depend on its freshman for improvement.

Nice to win opener for mens program - starting a very young team with a number of frosh in lineup. Rider is not a great side, but winning away and with two potential scorers out of line up - not bad at all.
On womens side - not a good outcome, but not terrible, against a squad with 3 prior wins against good programs.

I don't know how you can say LaSalle beat three good teams. Those three teams are currently 1-5 and were 12-41-5 last year. The problem remains the same, we do not or can not score. Just 6 shots last night. Even down down 2-0, we were keeping 4 defenders back. If you are behind and having trouble scoring, you have to take some chances. There is no such thing as a good loss.

Never said it was a good loss - said it wasn't a terrible outcome. And, it came against a team that had shut out all prior opponents. You are correct the opponents are not as good as I had eye-balled them to be, but its not like LU played three D3 schools.
Dont know much about backgrounds (other than whats on web site) but is there anyone on roster who historically (high school, club team) puts ball in back of net? Or, is it a case of having a log jam of middies & defenders (or fwds who distribute but dont score) and no one who knows how to finish?
If you look at last year's stats we take half the shots of opponents and even leading shot taker only took one a game. Is that the type of game Mick coaches or he has simply not recruited (as the men have) someone who has a nose for the goal?
You seem to have been at game - any insights?

Let's remember Dennis has scholarships Mick does not. To give you an idea both Andrew Griffith and Dennis Bohn have commitments from 5 players each for NEXT YEARS freshman class, so they are getting first line recruits Mick has to find the gems from the seconds.

I'm curious about the soccer scholarship situation in the PL - particularly Lehigh. As far as I know, the current status is:
WOMEN
Scholarship (or equivalent) - American, Army, Colgate, Holy Cross (new this year), Lehigh (?), and Navy
Non-scholarship - Bucknell, Lafayette
MEN
Scholarship (or equivalent) - American, Army, Colgate, Holy Cross (new this year), Lafayette, Lehigh (?), and Navy
Non-scholarship - Bucknell
Is the above correct, and is Lehigh placed correctly?

Bucknell currently has some group studying the scholarship issue, and I think it's past time to start offering at least a few in key sports other than basketball.

As far as I know lehigh does not offer athletic scholarships in anything besides M/W basketball and wrestling. They do however have a thing called leadership aid or something like that, when on a rotating basis they offer select student athletes aid in excess of need. But it is one or two scholarships.

The Bucknell posters like to claim they do not offer scholarships in anyhing but basketball. That may be technically correct but they do offer "Excellence Awards" that are in fact scholarships. They are not need based and do not need to be repaid. I know they have been given to some XC and T&F athletes and may also be given to other disciplines, ie music, etc.
And, as Lafalum states, LU has "scholarship" funds available at the ADs discretion, i.e. a standout softball pitcher.
If it looks like a duck, quacks like a duck, its a duck.

The excellence awards (merit awards) are only given in music, arts, etc. (plus basketball). There are none set aside for athletes other than basketball. Now it may turn out that a cross country runner is a music prodigy and will qualify for an award, but that has been very rare.

Someone apparently taught the ladies to shoot....28 shots is more like it.
