FH controls the game against Longwood

Very nice game with a competitive Longwood squad. I saw some great effort  on both sides of the ball. Detailed account and some video of goals.

Just watched the archived video of the game.  That seemed to be a lot harder than it needed to be.  We turn the ball over, a lot!  Granted, Longwood is a much improved team, but my assessment is that we were lucky to get away with this one.

Have to disagree I.P., in the first half Longwood had no shots to our 7 and only 5 in the second half. The only goal by Longwood was on our goalie error when she came out too far. We also out cornered them.

I agree on the turn overs but I attribute that to A LOT of freshmen in the game for extended periods which will pay off in added depth later on. I do think we should be keeping our best players in longer. She is playing virtually her whole bench. We have two winnable games this weekend, however Yale has a terrific goalie and Quinnipiac will be dangerous even at 0-4.

Which reiterates my point ...this was harder than it should have been.  The dominance of which you speak should have put this game away early (even the goleopards schedule link shows it as a 3-1 victory ...they were obviously looking for more).

Allow me to be frank.  We outshot and outcornered Monmouth, especially in the second half (yes, I know, different team, different game), and produced no goals.  Don't get me wrong, I am very happy with the win.  I'm just getting a little queasy about our goal production.  Maybe this weekend will be better.  I'll stop the glass is half empty chatter.

How much field hockey have you watched? One of the reasons - frankly - FH doesn't take off in the states is that the best team doesn't always win. "Putting the game away early" against another DI opponent is rare. I remember the very first time we lost the Patriot League title - 1994 - vs. Lehigh. We outshot the Engineers 36-6 and we couldnt put them away. That wasn't a bad team - it's the nature of the game sometimes.
Yes - I used a dated example - but there are plenty others.

Actually, Maroon, that can happen in any game. I've  seen plenty of football games where the losing team "won" time of possession, had more first downs and yardage. Scoring at times is hard and I think the game has improved in twenty years along with the skills.
I see Field Hockey similarly to soccer, but I think they have done more to improve the game e.g., fast turf,no offsides, self start after a penalty.

Quite a bit, here and abroad, over the last two decades.

Come on  out to a game...I'll buy you a hot dog!! Next home game is friday Sept 16 @6pm against Towson and perhaps you'll see Lafayette put a team away early!!

Speaking of hot dogs, I was at the game and stayed for the Penn State vs Albany game. It wasn't until the second game ended that I saw the Food Truck pull out of the facility. Instead of parking it by the maintenance building, why didn't they park the food truck in the parking lot where you have to drive or walk by it? If its too much effort to have the food truck, why not have the out of season teams fire up a grill and sell hot dogs and burgers? You go to Bucknell for a basketball game and the softball team runs the refreshment stand (this post subject to 137's correction).

Only a slight correction.  Each of the two concession stands are run by a different team or organization each game. It may be softball or volleyball or some other team, or it may be some other student group or a Lewisburg booster club when Bucknell is on break.  The arrangement is similar at the concession stand at the soccer stadium.

All food at Lafayette is contracted out to one vender ( Bon Appetit Management??) They  may subcontract to someone else.
