Field Hockey at PL Championship tourney what'll happen??

Fh will play Lehigh in the second game of the PL tourney tomorrow in DC.
We beat Lehigh 3-2 earlier in the season. Can we repeat???
Defense---we have the second lowest goals ag average in the conference even with that 8-0 thumping we got from American. We are capable of shutting Lehigh down. But this is not the usual Lehigh team. They play a much more open, modern style of play. They will be ready. Our all league defenders DeSanti and rookie of the year Cecchi anchor a solid defense. Slight nod to our side.
Goaltending---our frosh goalie is the real deal and only played half the first game. She has also had the benefit of three weeks of coaching from Amy Tran one of the best in the world and a new Lafayette asst. Big nod to the Leopards
Offense-- We are getting better but are still having trouble finding the back of the goal. If we can control the ball on the offensive side and inside the cirlce and not give away scoring opportunities we win. If we are sloppy we lose. Lehigh is not a high scoring team but do have an offensive star in Christy Smith.
Experience- Lehigh was not in the tournment last year and even though we have only one senior starter they all played last year and have been there. Our schedule has been a tougher schedule as well. Slight nod to the Pards
Coaching- We have a rookie coach and asst coaches but he has played at the highest levels as has Tran. Stone was part of our glory years and know how to win!! Big asset here and maybe the deciding factor.

My heart and head say Pards in this first game and we worry about American starting at 4pm tomorrow!!

I've seen wilder things happen than bouncing back from an 8-0 loss. Miracle on Turf?!

Great to see this program getting back into groove. We got a lot of playing time for the frosh, (Is it OK to say "freshmen" now? I also got lambasted for saying "Lady Leopards" in the PC movement). Anyways, a young team that got better as the season went on with a coach who seems to be as good as advertised--the future looks very bright indeed.

Congratulations no matter what happens today. (Although I think we might have a little something more for American!--Homer talk I guess)
Andy

Congratulations to the ladies on making the finals. The future looks bright with nine of the fourteen who played in the final being frosh or sophs and only one senior. Nice job by coach Gold in her final recruiting classes.

Question for lafalum: What are the odds on retaining Coach Griffiths?

Also, it was interesting to read (a Go 'Gate post on the CU board) that Colgate has the capacity to offer 124 scholarships over four years. Am I correct that our count is 40--12 each M & W bball and 8 each FH and M-soc?

Griffith has bought a house and his wife is working in the Valley. He seems very happy with his situation. Most coaches at his level make a lot of their money on camps and I would hope the school gives him a lot of cooperation in that area. It would be a win win for Lafayette if they did. His clinics have been well attended during the season and I understand his class for next year is done and signed!! He is now working on the following year which is what you do in Div 1.
Steve Jennings at American seems set for the forseeable future and to have two teams like that in the PL would be terrific!!!
Griffith has changed the work ethic, level of fitness, and tempo of play. I look forward to having him here all year with a strong spring to put in his systems etc.
The final was well played especially the second half where we really played them even. Look forward to some new names on our schedule as time goes by (maybe Princeton,Harvard,BC,Maryland and more than one big ten school) to get us used to playing at a tempo of the top teams.
Re our scholarships you are correct but it is all in how you acount for it.
Basketball is a counter sport and their are no partials given. Soccer and FH you can give partials and Lafayette will give additional aid for need so in both cases Dennis and Andrew can get us to the NCAA max in their sports. At Colgate they are also givng scholarships in Lacrosse and Ice Hockey.
Andy

Thanks for the info, very impressive re Coach G.

This is the Colgate stuff, I assume they mean full scholarships--31/yr.

Q - What is the current number of athletic scholarships that Colgate has awarded? What is the breakdown by sport? What are the plan (sic) for the near future in terms of total number of awards and for what sports?

A - "We have the ability to use 124 scholarships spread over the four classes. Our scholarship sports are men's soccer, women's soccer, women's basketball, men's basketball, men's ice hockey, women's ice hockey, women's lacrosse, men's lacrosse, field hockey, volleyball, women's swimming and softball. Football by Patriot League Rules is still limited to need based financial aid. We do not release the breakdown by sport as there is some flexibility in the number given to the sports listed above....
