Field Hockey

A very solid win at Yale.  Love to beat those Ivies, especially at their place.  Score was 3-1 with about 5 minutes to go and the ref awarded a corner to Yale who, of course, scored.  It was a complete mystery call by a ref who clearly was watching a different game than we were.  Remembering the disastrous penalty called by the ref against Millen last year in the HC Game (I think it was HC), I once again question the quality of the officials that get assigned these games.  For a ref to make a ticky tack call like that at a critical part of the game just drives me crazy.  It got Yale back into it but the LC defense stood tall and controlled the game pretty well after that.  It was really hot out there, and the coaches shuttled players in and out frequently.  Amanda Magadan played an outstanding game - she was the best player on the field by a wide margin.  We are lucky to have her.

Although I can't disagree with anything you said, sadly its not the worst officiating I've seen. I am hoping as video becomes more common, video replay will clean up the worst officiating. The Big Ten and the ACC have adopted it and all NCAA tournament games use video replay. It did help in yesterday's football game although we couldn't take advantage.
Amanda is a huge factor for us. She attracts a lot attention every game but helps us free up our other players. We have some attackers with some real noses for the goal!!
This team gets better every game.

I will, of course, defer to Lafalum on the quality of the officiating.   When it comes to FH he has seen it all.   Totally agree that replay should be used.  Also, the refs should have state the reason for the penalty and have it announced over the PA System.  FH is the only sport I know of that has this cloak and dagger approach to explaining the penalties.

But when I see the poor quality of the umpires in baseball, football officials who make mystery calls, and basketball refs who seem to be homers, I continue to question the quality of officials that work Patriot League Games. Bison has gamely tried to explain it and I take his points but it certainly seems to me that as a D1 Athletic Conference, the teams and coaches (not to mention the fans) deserve better.

I will admit that I get some satisfaction out of razzing the umps at Army - over the years they are the worst umpires I have ever seen.  It is as if they are threatened with being sent to the stockade if they make a call that doesn't go Army's way - but I digress.

A win by the FH women over Quin today and Towson next will put them at 5-1 which is a very good start.

Anyone that happens to be at Yake for the game against Quin, please provide some updates. Looks like the power was pulled from the camera and laptops as there is not any video of livestats available.
Andy

1-0 Q at the half.

2-1 in overtime jonkheer ties it beats two defenders then goalie one on one. In overtime Cameron Costello unassisted for the win

And 18 field players get playing time in a game LC never led until the final shot? A lesson learned somewhere?

goleopards shows a Turner assist, but the stats seem to change every couple of days on that site.  Is there someone new at the helm?

I traded texts with one of the parents who was there for both games and they mentioned that it was brutally hot during the Yale game.  The girls did have over 24 hours to recover before Qpac, but they stated that the shuttling of middies and strikers was the only thing that gave them a fighting chance against a team with absolutely nothing to lose.

There is someone new but not his fault, he was at the mercy of the Yale and Quinnipiac scorekeeper. On Saturday the scoring was changed after the game and talking to the players late at night. I would have scored two unassisted goals on Sunday but my observation doesn't count officially.

I would suggest you contact the Sports Information Office and volunteer your services if you are that familiar with the field hockey statistics and offer your help. Every year there is a change in interns, they are probably not that familiar with every sport.

This coming weekend has volleyball cross country women's and men's soccer, football, tennis and golf.

I think we should be fair here. For many of sports, the sport information people do not travel but rely on the Sports Info people at the host school. They then write their pieces after talking the coach. In this case the Yale scorekeeper got it wrong. The important thing is, it was corrected.
I would add field hockey plays Towson at home on Friday at 6pm!!

I would also add that the Towson game and the game at Hofstra on Monday are important, winnable games for this team to build success for the real challenge facing them the following weekend, BU & UD, #18 & #10, respectively.

Towson and Hofstra are winnable. Hofstra lost to Yale 4-2 I believe on Sunday which makes me more comfortable. Hofstra  set us up nicely for a home game against Boston the following friday followed by Delaware.  With the exception of Sunday's game against UCAL Boston's wins have been one goal affairs, but they are good!! A sweep of those four would be sweet but one at time. BU being the big one.

The video replay shows you are correct.  Good call!
