First Place

Finally something to cheer about with the spring sports. The baseball team completed a four game sweep of pre-season favorite Army this afternoon with a pair of 5-3 victories at Dutch Rahn Field at the Class of 1978 Stadium (or is it just the reverse?).

Yesterday, the Leopards took the opener 3-2, off Army ace Nick Hill with a 3 spot in the 6th. In the second game, another 3 run inning, this time in the 7th, produced a 5-2 win. Strong pitching both days from Gjeldum, Kamine, Reese, and the freshman Atkins as well as Fugett in relief.

With 5 senior position starters and 3 senior pitching starters and a senior closer, this could be the year we earn the top seed and home field for the playoffs and a trip to the CWS.

The team returns to action Tuesday at home against Penn in a Liberty Bell Classic semi-final game before visiting Navy on the weekend.

I don't know if I'm allowed to post this here since softball is no longer an olympic sport, but the softball team took 2 of 3 from Bucknell and will return tomorrow to play the final game.

I guess its best to not say anything about Lacrosse.

YEAH BABY!!

I DO NOT like Army. It dates back to a tennis match in 1991 where the Army fans literally jeered our team throughout---WOMEN'S TENNIS...It went on to a 1994 Soccer game in the PL tournament where PAT FISHER had to restrain an Army fan (and oh...did she restrain him--it was a jaw dropping moment)...They're fans are consistently the most rude and obnoxious in our league and many of their teams are notorious for cheap shots. It bothers me the most because they are among the best and brightest kids in our nation--I guess they think they have a God-given right to win. Either way...I'm relishing the fact that Navy's kicking their ASS in football for the past 5 years and I LOVE it when we take it to them.

And it looks like we did this weekend. People don't remember--but Kinney pretty much resurrected this program from the dead. They didn't do much at all from 1992 until he came in 1999.

I'll start moaning about Lacrosse in the next thread.

I guess I'm gonna have to change the name of the thread or add another one. Lax isn't an olympic sport either!

Championship Game

The Leopards will play in the Liberty Bell Classic finals at Citizens Bank Park on Tuesday, 4/10, at 7:00. I believe Lehigh also won today so it will be an all-PL final.

It was strong pitching again today as Jr Brad Woodfield pitched 6 strong innings giving up only 2 runs, both unearned. Jason Morytko and Brian Mostek finished the last three as the Pards prevailed 10-2.

Balanced offensive attack and aggressive baserunning combined with some sloppy fielding by Penn.

X, I caught the middle innings before heading back to Fisher. I was down the first base line, never made it to the stands to say hello.

Woodfield, coming off Tommy John surgery two years ago, was super impressive IMO for his first win as a Pard. He threw nothing but strikes with a somewhat funky and distracting arm angle, had good velocity, and threw with control what looked to be a knuckle curve with a 1 to 7 break. Very impressive! I hope he'll consider taking at least one of his medical red shirt years.

Penn may not be very good, but they win the award for lowest team body fat. Shoot, they looked like they were all cloned from the same rather small long distance runner. (except for 1st base who had some bulk). Kind of odd for ball players. Anyway, I hope the Classic is on all-access or some other venue. BEAT LEHIGH!
