Fordham

let's hear some prognostications.

you guys have had a heckuva season so far.  Everything from consistency to improving week over week to beating a common opponent ... all points in your favor, and not just in a small way.

Begs the ? - do the Rams have a shot or is it going to get ugly on Saturday?

Fordham seems to have been very inconsistent this year.  You guys still have a dangerous offense, but the defense appears medicore.

Overall Lafayette is certainlty the favorite, but Fordham is a dangerous team.
Pard4Life

Your defense sounds inconsistent, which should give the advantage to our off-balance attack. The real key to the game will be if our D-line can overwhelm Skelton. Does he throw well mobily? I would assume yes since he is on NFL radars. If you can contain our line, it will be very close. The spread and quick hits killed us two years ago.
Pard94

This game has "TRAP" written all over it. We know Fordham has talent. If the Leopards practice hard, stay focused, don't believe their own press, I think we should beat them and beat them fairly handily. The game is at home and I think the Harvard game should have really instilled confidence in our whole team but more specifically in our defense and our running attack.

If we let up at all however, I think this is thry type of game that we've almost come to expect here in the PL. Some team generally throws a wrench in the works. We shall see I guess. I'm looking forward to watching Skelton.
PA Ram

Gracias - calling our D "inconsistent" and "mediocre" is much better than they have deserved thus far.  To make matters worse, both lines for us have been hit pretty hard with injuries, so we have a few frosh and sophs starting or getting much more playing time than we had hoped for.  Given our play before the injuries, though, maybe it's not the worst thing.  We have a 6'7 265lb true frosh from FL getting playing time at DT as one to look out for who likely would not have been out there otherwise.

Assuming our same D shows up, we will likely be beaten soundly since we can't stop the run.  Our D has shown considerable improvement over the past few weeks but it's not like our competition (ODU, Bryant & Cornell) has been anywhere near to you guys.

The one benefit is that Skelton has been on absolute fire lately and that always gives us a chance.  Even with our suspect Oline he has just been great.

You guys have earned the right to be considerable favorites.  The two things that would get me nervous as a Pard fan once the game starts would be seeing Skelton start off hot and if our D can get turnovers.  Skelton starting out well stretches the D and that opens up the running game.  After that, we'd be in it.  If we can get some turnovers on D it would be huge as well.

Other than obvious things like 'the score', how will I know as a Ram fan that you guys are in the zone?  I assume it's that your Dline is controlling the game and your running game is on.  Anything else symbolic of Lafayette dictating the tempo?
Kiltedpard

Sounds like a game where we want to keep the ball out of Skelton's hands. That has Frankball written all over it. 3 yds and a cloud of plastic!?

If our front 7 overun your offense like the Maginot line...could be a long day for the Rams. Also, if the Curely and Layton show are in the Zone there aren't many in the league we can't hang with. That of course is predicated on how well our o-line does. We had one game in my opinion where our o-line played less than brilliantly and that was Columbia. I'm hoping there isn't something in the water up there in NYC. That game was way too exciting for my liking. I think it is safe to say there certainly isn't anyone on this board who is not aware of what the Fordham Skeltons are capable of. I'm sure Frank has the team understanding this as well. Rest assured...you guys are getting all due respect as you come down to Easton this week.

Is this Leopard team the best in...I don't know...50 years?  I have no idea and, of course, there is no way of measuring, but the fact that I am asking the question says volumes about this bunch.

Lafayette's turn to worry about whether this is the week that Fordham emerges from its coma. The Rams have shown recent signs of resuscitation, but no matter. They have run smack into the proverbial unstoppable force that is 2009's version of destiny's darling.  The Pards give every indication that they are on a mission and will not be stopped.

Certainly.  When you have a "moment," stick with it.

By the way, Fordham's prolific "O" against Lafayette's best in the League "D," and Lafayette's very good "O" against Fordham's porous "D" does not smell like a Ram victory to me.
Lafalum

As the first in a closing series of league games and it is played at home in front of a homecoming crowd...this will not be a trap game. 30-14 leopards.
Xboreturns

I agree that this is not a "trap" game but I think it is a very dangerous game. We know what Colgate does, we know what Holy Cross does, what Bucknell tries to do, what Lehigh, well they have their own problems. But Fordham has been all over the place. Sometimes very bad and sometimes pretty good. And while they haven't beaten a good team, they are certainly capable of it if Skelton gets hot.

The big question in my mind is what will our offensive strategy be?  Will we continue to mix it up, throw down the field, look for the quick strike and risk giving Fordham and Skelton more possessions? Or, will we return to our ball control, grind it out style, throw only when necessary and attempt to limit FU possessions?

Unless its pouring rain - net/net probably a good thing for us - if we don't let Mickey continue to run a balanced and unpredictable offense we have learned nothing and deserve what we get.   IMHO I dont see us going that way.

I have had my heart broken at more than enough homecomings to see that as quasi meaningless motivation to players.  MAYBE (and I would not bet on this) we alums can raise the volume in Fisher a bit....but I would not hold out hope on that, we have rarely been that kind of a crowd.

That said, if there is anything to drown out the !@#$@#ing 3rd down gong I'd be all for it....

I haven't been to a home game this season...there's a third down gong now?? That's somehow more palatable than the ridiculous leopard roar?

The only shot in hell Fordham has is to draw us into a shoot out. They have the best gunslinger in the league (arguably). The best defense against that is to keep them the hell off of the field...something that we have been very good at this year. For that reason I would expect to see a 60/40 attack with the emphasis on the run. Eat up the clock. Keep their already suspect Defense on the field and tire them out. Let's face it...Curley has been all we coud have hoped for and more...but he's not Skelton. We need to concede that their QB is better but our TEAM on the whole is much better. The good news is we certainly have a potent enough air attack to force them to respect it or pay the price.

I also think our defense needs to disrupt their passing game as much as possible. I don't think we're going to rattle Skelton therefore I think we need to concentrate on the Receivers. No clean releases. We need to mug these guys in the first five yards of their route. Screw up the timing and just maybe that will allow Dell, Poulson et. al. to work their violent magic.

All in all...I like the match up!
Andy

As fun as this attack has been, lately there've been too many attempts to Layton in double coverage. Skelton will be the best QB we've faced and we cant turn it over. We're into league play now and FU hasnt seen our #1 RB in three years.  Let's see if they can stop him.  Mo' Mo!!!  And I'm feeling some big plays from Rudy.

How about this...Wildcat early and often! just kidding.

There better be 10,000 at this game. Or will the be going on the Arts Center tour? Oh yeah, great way to attract alumni support... I just hope my parking spot is still available.

The gong has to go... Too many bad memories with that gong from years past.

Forget it.  It's Saturday and you know what that means.  "Chance of rain 70%."

I posted this at AGS, but it has more relevance here.

Here is a very interesting comparison of Randolph vs. Skelton for this year. Be aware that there may be a few stats in here from "mop up" guys, but most of this is from these two.

Passing Yds. - HC 1,964, F 1,940

Completions-Attempts-Int - HC 163-249--6, F 133-221-6

Completion % - HC 65.5%, F 60.2%

TDs by Passing - HC 18, F 15

Not a heckuva lot of difference.  Could be a fun afternoon on Saturday.  In any event, I'm not expecting the defense to throw a shutout against these guys.

Maybe most important stat: LC swine flu rates

From LC website today, school physician:

"We have seen a sharp increase in the number of students diagnosed with influenza over the past several days. This represents a dramatic shift from the sporadic activity that we have seen previously during the first half of the semester."

The article continues to say that students are being encouraged to go home if they are infected. From what I hear, this includes a significant number of students.

I wouldn't be surprised if this has a significant impact on the game.

Mr Administrator:

Can you please update the Football section this week to something like "Beat Fordham"?

Not that I am superstitious or anything, I just thought we might want to put the focus on the upcoming opponent and worry about the specialness of the season a little later.

I'm not saying not the enjoy the ride, by all means enjoy every second of it, just let's savor each week one game at a time and when it's all over, we can discuss how special a season it was then...

Cool?

I don't know about a significant impact but I have heard there are athletes on some of the other teams that have been affected.

Curley already was ill during the Columbia game. Maybe if students actually wore jackets when they went out at night it wouldn't be as big a problem... jackets aren't "fashionable"... I remember plenty of fools who did this... and they got sick!

It's probably an issue with Fordham too and every team. It's a problem with the Browns right now, but Costanzo is reported to be ok... probably scared the germs away...

I think it was on the Holy Cross board, but someone said that dozens of students at Cross and Colgate have the flu.  It appears the situation is worse at other schools and somthing that may end up having an impact on a game this season.

I'm so upset that I don't even know how to express myself. Regardless of the weather we will win.  This has more of an impact on the gate cross
game, and those lucky gaters don't need anymore help from the weather. Colgate will win by two scores.
