Fraternities again beat all school GPA

Greek Men 3.19
All Men       3.14

Greek Women 3.34
All Women      3.38

All Students   3.24
All Greek       3.29

The paper you hear in the background is the anti greek talking points. Time to affirm the place of Greek Life on campus!!  It would be a great thing for Byerly to now announce the end of the IGGL committee and allow Chi Phi to return, fulfilling the agreement the school  made almost 7 years ago. Time to declare peace and the good guys and girls have won!!

It has to happen before they kick off the capital campaign with the Yankee Stadium game.

Not surprising. Coming from an old Greek guy myself I find it sad there is so little Greek life on campus. I understand from older alumni that there was a much larger Greek presence in the past. The anti-Greek crowd will probably say this is due to poop files and cheating. When I was in school at a large university the Greek GPA was way ahead of the normal student body.

The PA Superior Court has ruled in favor of the college and allowed them to keep the building.

I'm a bit surprised the IGGL Committee still exists.  I wonder what possible purpose it can serve at this point other than as some kind of bizarre legacy of the Weiss Era.

Well the legacy lives on. A public report from Iggl was sent out yesterday. They repeated their objectives and noted the Academic standing of Greeks was improving ( in fact it is higher than the all school average) and of special note that the percentage of Greeks involved in school disciplinary hearings was lower than the percentage of non-greek affiliated students. They noted that population of fraternity membership was lower ( there are fewer organizations and they did not count membership in non-recognized groups). They did however admit that the statistics for fraternities was not as well available as sortorities who saw an increase. A "final"report is to be sent to the BOT in March.
My recommendation ( which has no standing), end IGGL officially and declare  officially that Greeks are part of student life, give them the same support given to the theme houses, honor the agreement to Chi Phi and allow them to occupy their house this fall. Declare an end to the war and start a real reconciliation.

Isn't it more likely for the academic establishment to credit the improvement to the reign of terror rather than despite it. Crying or Very sad

yes and don't forget 1.5v million spent on lawyers by the college on the Chi Phi suit.

The IGGl committee should be sent to the dustbin of history, and the sooner the bettter.  The amount of time, effort and money spent on the anti-Greek fiasco, not to mention the alienation of dozens of alumni, will live on forever as the tragic (using a different word than my last post) legacy of Dan Weiss.  This, along with the equivalencies travesty (which in my mind was cover up) was an intentional trashing of the investment in the new stadium by three wonderful LC alums.

While I want to move on, its is extremely difficult to get Weiss and Rothkopf out of my head.  As some of you know, I was not on speaking terms with either of them in the latter years of their "reigns."  I am hopeful of a much better dialogue with Ms. Byerly.

The real problem is that without being trustees, many of us are fighting rear guard battles with the LC Admin.  Specifically, we learn about these anti-athletics, anti-Greek crusades AFTER decisions are made, often with the concurrence of the docile BoT.

I once said to someone that the only thing that would turn me against the College is for them to f__k around with the D-1 athletic program and the Lehigh rivalry.  The last two Presidents have done just that (and Weiss threw in the anti Greek stuff as well).  Thus I have become extremly cynical about the flunkies (ok hired guns) who are employed to run the school.  Maybe I've become too cynical because LC is doing a lot of really good things as well.  It is such a pleasure to talk to the students and the intelligence that they have.

Enough rambling for one night.

Go Pards - good luck tomorrow against the IGGLs.

Thanks Rich.  Reign of Terror is a completely accurate description.

So we have a collage that spent 1.5 mil on legal fees to fight a frat or the Greek system but we are worried about how much aid an athlete gets? Got it.

I have joined some booster clubs and other donations. Glad I found out about this before I support the academic side. I'll be better off sticking to the athletic support groups.

Fly, while there are some profs who I like and respect, I agree with you.  I only contribute to athletics.
