Got my letter over the weekend...it is official...Phi Gamma Delta is no longer recognized by Lafayette. A popular community of students for decades banned from campus. Let's hear it for diversity!

I just moved so my letter came late, but finally got it as well. Its a sad day, but not unexpected. I fell sorry that future Lafayette students will not have the opportunity to join Phi Gam or any frat for that matter.
What is ironic is that I also got a letter asking me to donate to the school at the exact same time as the letter saying Fiji is gone. Also Ed Ahart was chair of the committe of trustee's that recomended the chapter be closed. Two of Ed's son in law's were Fiji's, how strange is that. I understand such a decision is made with personal feelings removed, but still must make for some interesting discussion around the dinner table.

It really smacks of a bunch of eggheads making an egghead decision in the name of supposed diversity. Certain protected classes don't get bids to fraternites so let's forgoe the interests of the majority so no one's feelings are hurt and everyone feels included. Great. If FIJI was populated completely with transgendered muslims from India they's could set fire to the Quad every third Thursday of the month and the college would celebrate it as a rite of cultural diversity. White kids who play sports however are treated as lepers.
It's the same line of thought that says teachers shouldn't correct tests with a red pen. Or that little leagues shouldn't keeep score. Or every participant should get a blue ribbon just for showing up. Life doesn't work this way. The sooner people realize that society can't be everything to everyone the better off we'll all be. I sincerely believe this business of mollycodlling and bowing at the alter of political correctness is the very handbasket in which our societey is quickly going to hell. Other than that I have no strong feelings on the subject.
As for giving money to Lafayette...if I could be sure I wasn't funding the Society for Transgendered Indian Muslims (STIM) I'd be happy to give. As it is...no way.

Ed is being whispered as a successor to Alan Griffith as Chairman of the BOT. Ed was also a strong opponent of athletic scholarships despite telling others outside the BOT the opposite. Not a straight shooter!! Then again I suppose they wouldn't like me very much since I believe in accountablity and that the BOT should act like Trustees instead of arms of the current administration whoever they are.

In the span of about 3 years I went from being very optimistic as to the direction of Lafayette to very pesimistic.

I feel for you guys as you seem to be going the way of Dartmouth. Go to Biggreenalert.com and read yesterday's account down in the article about the new Dean of the College who has about two years experience in "cultural accoutabilty". WTF. I sure hope the Gate does not slide down this slippery path, it is very touch and go at our place as well, especially with a new president to be hired.

That should be an interesting process. Watch it closely and ask a ton of questions. [/i]

A former Fiji posted some pictures of the house. He visisted earlier this week to help clean out some property from the building. The house is already bare and has been completely redone. The schools remodels the house and promply gives us the boot. The place doesnt look right anyway--- its all clean and there are no holes in the walls.
I am afraid all frats are under severe atatck at all liberal arts schools.

The decision on Fiji was made a few months ago. It doesn't surprise me the school has remodeled already sicne they need the space for student housing.
14 frats down, 5 more to go.
BTW, don't use such a broad brush when painting all liberal arts schools the same. There are some with similar profiles to Lafayette that actually have good Greek system. Believe or not, the college's administration actually works with them This is about an administration and BOT that have an agenda that for whatever reason are afraid to reveal.
