Hello Newman

I don't see rising junior Jake Newman on the 2015-16 roster.

He was a walk on. I guess now he's a walk off?  Wink

Despite being added late in the recruiting year, Newman was carried as a scholarship player by verbalcommits.com:

True - but they also showed 14 scholarship players for the 2014-15 season, which of course is impossible.    I am fairly sure Newman was not on scholarship since the other 13 all apparently had free rides.

Hmm . . . Men's Basketball is a head count sport.  Max of 13 players on scholarship.  But that doesn't (necessarily) mean all 13 players get a full ride.  It's my understanding that a DI basketball program can give partials (i.e., less than a full ride) to some players even if it gives full rides to others.  The program can't split scholarship money amongst more than one player, though (as FBS allows).  So if one player gets $1,000 and another gets a full ride, both players count equally against the 13 scholarship limit for basketball.

I have no idea if, or how many, Lafayette basketball players on scholarship last season received something other than a full ride. And I don't know if Lafayette ever offers anything other than a full ride to its scholarship basketball players.  My hunch is that Lafayette does award less-than-full-ride scholarships to some players, but that's just a hunch.  I have no idea if that's actually the case and I stand corrected if I'm wrong.

I doubt that anyone getting an athletic merit gets less than a full ride. My understanding is that lafayette offers 12 in basketball. I believe 13 is the NCAA limit. ( That scholarship could from another source a marquis or need based aid as long as the recruited athletes get no more than 13) An unrecruited walk on could get aid.
