Holy Cross names Nate Pine from University of Maryland AD

Looks like an outstanding choice. Was formerly at U Cal Berkley and Army. He is about 35 according calculations by the HC board. It is a statement hire. Congratulations to the Crusaders.

He may be a great hire,  don't know. On the surface it looks good but Maryland athletics is a horrible mess and they are dang near bankrupt. They had to go to the Big 10 just to find a quick solution to reduce their debt. Judge recently a judge ruled they owe the 50 million exit fee to the ACC. Sure, they plead it down but Maryland is in a mess. Debbie Yow left them in a mess and then she jumped ship. Maybe he saw the writing on the wall and knew he needed to get out of there.

He obviously had nothing to do with the Yow mess. But I give HC props for taking advantage of the  opportunity. He was making 157,000 at Maryland and it probably took more to get him to Holy Cross. As with most hires at this level, part of the negotiation is to negotiate your success, so he comes with some promises of support. He has been around long enough to know what he needs and he is young enough to realize this may not be his last job and he's not  coasting to retirement.

Their BOT, or whatever the governing body, is making a statement and their PL competitors should pay attention. They are the one PL school which challenges us for the bottom in President's Cup every year!
