I'm confident in saying we could beat everyone on this list in football.

Here's what RichH posted on the Lehigh Board yesterday:

Tuitions for PL schools
6. Gate 40,690
7. BU 40,594
41. GU 38,616
50. LU 38,330
56. HC 38,180
72.LC 37,520
99.FU 35,825

Note:  This is tuition only!

Basically we are competitive with our peer schools in the price of education.

Not sure where you are going with this lafalum.  We all know private liberal arts colleges are expensive.  The question is how much does a school offer in financial aid and grants and how do they distribute that money?

I believe our Tuition is lower than many of these schools (by like 2-3k), but we appear to pile it on in the room and board.

Since the schools own the dorms and some of the greeks (a declining number) and for the most part you are required to live where they tell you to live I think to judge cost... room, board and fee should be included.
It's either that or the school is a poorer manager of living costs but I would assume it all goes in one pot.

I think the issue is for us how much room do we have to raise money through tuition, room, board, etc. I would say very little. Keep in mind many of the Ivies have far more generous aid policies than us as well. We ( and perhaps the rest of  patriot league) are in a tough place.

We may be in a difficult place, but schools like Moravian and Susquehana are in a more difficult place.  These schools charge nearly as much as we do, and institution financial aid at these places is less (especially for Moravian).
Lafalum

Agreed!! But we are not competing with Susquehanna and Moravian for students.

Absolutely not (I hope not).  I guess my point is that our peer schools wil have the same challenges as we do, and other small colleges may be severly impacted.
Lafalum

I guess my point is with the elite schools below us in cost ( for the most part) our chances of using tuition to pay for improvements is nil and none.
So we either risk more in the portfolio ( I hope not) or ask alums to give more ( how that happens..I don't know). I think we are stuck here for a while and its difficult to see how we free up enough money to make a difference without  managing differently. ( perhaps by changing our mix of high cost instruction and low cost instruction e.g engineering vs the liberal arts or raising the number of students!)

F&M is more than LC!!! I guess John Fry had some good takeaways from his undergrad period on the Hill!!

Wow... that was my total for LC when I was reading the prospective booklet  recently... thought I added the costs wrong!! What has changed at Lafayette to warrant $40,000 more over 4 yrs in the past decade??
