I'm just throwing it out there!!John Fry, Lafayette alumnus and President of F&M will get an honorary degree at Lafayette's commencement. He is chairman of the NCAA Div 3 mgt committee and while on the BOT at Lafayette was a STRONG advocate of moving Lafayette to Div 3. There were many who wanted to see Fry as the next president and there were rumours that he was offered and turned it down as he had just arrived at F&M. Is this invitation a way of keeping him in the mix for when Weis leaves?
I know I'm paranoid, but I have seen it all at this school, as far as this subject goes, and I don't put anything past the OLD GUARD MAFIA. It is a way of keeping their hope alive after they are forced by age to give up power!!

No, dont be paranoid. You dont get a 30 million dollar football stadium to move to D-III. I believe we will not have this discussion seriously again until their are major changes in conference realingment or NCAA standards as to the make up of the divisions.

The rumors about Fry coming to Lafayette were just some alums who thought it would be nice to have another graduate as the president. John did a nice job of building out Penn's campus and has a lot of business experience. F&M had issues and needed someone like Fry to come in and fix them. John Fry and Lafayette would not be a good mix on any level. Also Fry is not a president that will last at a college for 10-15 years. Of course I think those days are gone for most presidents.

No more insiders running Lafayette! It's bad policy, and bad governance. We need our president to bring fresh prespectives and know nothing about our school, leaders, faculty. That's what interviews are for... to see if a candidates attitudes and philosophy match ours. I can see it now... Fry giving an audience and listening to his closest associates at lafayette (the old guard), who will dictate how to run the school. Including everyone else in discussion would just be a formality. This reminds me of why chairman and ceo positions need to be seperate... Kind of the same idea here.
As for Weiss, I see him staying until 2011 2012. As for a replacement, someone with their head on straight, who is innovative, responsive, and engaging who listens and weighs all constituent viewpoints equally is my choice... And being from a top school wouldn't be bad either.
