Incoming talent

List from Lax Power.  Besides coming from the right schools and having the typical lax names what do we know about any of them?

All I can add from first hand knowledge is Wanke is a scorer - but slight at 5'7"

Comiskey, Michael   Garden City NY Attack/Midfield
Garino, Jon    Villanova PA Episcopal Academy PA Midfield/FO
Gallagher, Mac   Bryn Mawr PA Shipley School PA Midfield
Lawyer, Ryan   Wayzata MN Benilde-St. Margaret's MN Defense/LSM
Smith, Broderick   Groton MA Bishop Guertin NH Defense/LSM
Falcone, Ben   Baltimore MD McDonogh School/Choate Rosemary Hall MD Goalie
Westby, Morgan   Villanova PA Episcopal Academy PA Midfield
Dunlap, Brendan   Winfield IL Wheaton North IL Midfield
Adler, Eric Basking   Ridge NJ Lawrenceville School NJ Defense/LSM
McQuiston, Evan Warren NJ Delbarton School NJ Midfield/Attack
Wanke, Kevin Skillman NJ Montgomery NJ Attack E
Bogus Megapardus

Getting Choate's starting Goalie is nice.  The kid from Delbarton scored his 7 goals mostly in blowout wins but he was a starter.  Supposedly a better soccer player than lacrosse player.  I check on some others.

Just saw that three of these kids made All-America - Garino (PA - Eastern), Wesby (PA - Eastern), and Wanke (NJ - North).  That has to be a first for a Lafayette recruiting class.

Looks like could be a strong class.  Let's hope Rogalski reaches out to these kids as I would imagine the program has been "radio silent" for the last month.  Would imagine that each of these kids had choices as to where they could play and chose Lafayette for the opportunity to get a great education, play in the PL and also because they expected to play for Coach Mangan.  If Rogalski can hit the ground running with these kids and combine them with the very good young talent already on the team, he could be set up for a good first year.

Apparently someone at Inside Lacrosse tweeted about one of the new 2012 recruits and was posted on the Lafayette forum at laxpower.com:

Quote:
From the Maryland board: ILPreps ‏@ILPreps
One of the country's best 2012 FOGOs makes a switch: Episcopal Academy's Jon Garino, once bound for Lafayette, will be a Maryland Terrapin

If this is true, a tough loss. Very good player who would have fought to see the field immediately.

Garino is an All-American and is reported to have won almost 80% of his faceoffs last year.  He would have been a good addition.  Damn.

Story about it from phiilylacrosse:

Well, Garino presumably was recruited by Mangan so the decision to switch certainly is Garino's prerogative.  But man, what a loss.  He could have made a huge difference in the possession game.

Tough loss.  Note to whomever:  We're looking forward to the day when we can bring in some quality guys who otherwise would have chosen Maryland.

Ouch - that re-opens a huge hole in our game.   Too late to fix for this year.  Not an easy spot to "coach up" at this level.

We're finally getting some 2013-14 Verbal Commitments that appeared on laxpower.com.  Up to 9 now:

Name                    Hometown         State  High School            Position
Buchanan, Nick     Wyckoff              NJ     Don Bosco Prep NJ    Midfield
Cortese, Matthew  Garden City       NY     Garden City NY        Goalie
Mahoney, Gerard  Rockville Centre  NY    South Side  NY         Attack/Midfield
Cannon, Erik         Ridgewood          NJ     Don Bosco Prep  NJ  Defense/LSM
Maltz, Billy            Ridgewood          NJ     Ridgewood  NJ          Midfield
Confalone, Dillon   Summit                NJ    Delbarton School NJ Midfield
Webb, Matt           Westfield             NJ     Westfield    NJ       Midfield
Joseph, Eric          Smithtown          NY     Smithtown West NY Attack
Sands, Jason        Greenwich          CT     Loomis-Chaffee  CT  Attack

From Insidelacrosse.com:

Jason Sands, A, Loomis Chaffee (Conn.) has verbally committed to Lafayette. The 6-3, 220 lbs. Sands is a member of the CT Chargers and Long Island Express. Also participates in basketball, squash, skiing and wakeboarding. Also considered Bucknell, Tufts, Boston University, Union and Richmond.

We had been the only PL team without any verbals from this class.  Looks like the new coaching staff has been gettin' it done.

Lafayette's PR folks doing their job in positioning our name in the headline of the LaxLessons article.  Welcome, Matt Cortese!  We're proud to have you to join us.  You played for Garden City. 'Nuf said.

I read that Westfield's Matt Webb played on the team that won the "Bucknell Bison Brawl" (whatsoever that might be).  Bison137?  Care to comment?  Do we have a "Lafayette Leopard Land-War" to match?  Remember the "classic blunder" of yore - "never get involved in a land war in . . . umm . . . Easton."

Apologies to Vizzini for that one, of course.

Bison Brawl is Bucknell's camp that consists of three days of team competition for HS teams, club teams, and "free agents".    Westfield was one of two champs this year.    The camp draws a lot of D1 coaches as spectators.   Fedorjaka started it when he took over as head coach in 2006.

Bison Brawl

What an interesting idea!
seenalot

Edmc perhaps it's implied in your message but with the brawl and lehighs laxfest that market (particularly with a half dozen other nearby events) is saturated and we are too late to that party. New coach needs to either improve our brand with a few winning seasons or put a new twist on it - and I'm not sure we have the facilities for the later

Good find, LC Local Fan.  Thanks!

Alex Mezey highlights are here http://mesafresh2014.com/players/alexmezey/ and here http://lacrosserecruits.com/lacrosserecruits/Alex_Mezey.

Mezey is just 5' 10" 155 lbs. but he played (and apparently started) on the Conestoga H.S. PA State Championship team as an Attack.  Played against top competition; looks like he has a good eye and can find the open man in space (really important).  Can't tell too much from the video about his burst and speed.  Looks like he's got terrific balance and can locate his shots under pressure.  Can't tell about his core physicality and his ability to take a hit from DI-sized defenses. Can't find any stats on forced/unforced turnovers.

Top student, high honors, 4.51 GPA (whatever that means).  He's played in the requisite summer/elite leagues.  Looks like a good find for Coach Rogalski.

Welcome to Lafayette, Mr. Mezey!  You made an excellent choice.

Yes, Seenalot, I was being a bit tongue in cheek.
